00:08A viral claim is circulating on social media that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

00:14was thrown out of a meeting with US President Donald Trump and other European leaders

00:19as they discussed peace in Ukraine at the White House.

00:22Some posts say that Trump said he only wanted to talk to leaders,

00:26while others say that he told her he wanted a grown-up talk with important people

00:31before asking her to wait outside.

00:34The social media posts appear to originate from right-wing alternative media outlets

00:38which attribute the claim to Omid Nouripour, Vice President of the German Bundestag.

00:43The article contained a clip of Nouripour on German TV channel NTV,

00:48saying that von der Leyen had to leave the room because the Americans said they only wanted to talk to leaders.

00:53However, the European Commission's Deputy Chief Spokesperson has said that von der Leyen

00:58participated in all meetings at all times alongside other European leaders.

01:03Nouripour has since corrected his initial statement,

01:06stating that he accidentally referred to false reports

01:09and that it was good and proper that von der Leyen was there,

01:13representing the rest of the EU member states.

01:15His office told Euroverify that Nouripour was originally referring to reporting

01:19by German media outlets Bild and Der Spiegel,

01:23which said that a meeting occurred only among leaders,

01:26excluding von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutter.

01:30Neither outlet responded to us as of the time of recording.

01:34NTV, however, has issued a correction in its reporting on Nouripour's comments.

01:38In fact, footage from the White House meeting shows Trump even musing aloud

01:42that von der Leyen may be the most powerful of the European leaders gathered there,

01:47as she represents 27 countries.
