00:20I mean, I think a complex site, steeply sloping,
00:23with a view in the trees, for me, personally, is perfect.

00:40Hopefully, the house will be worth the hike.
00:52This is something else.
00:59I've seen houses built into rock, but this is the first rock I've ever seen that's built into a house.
01:10This has got to be one of the most exciting rooms I've ever been in.
01:14And not at all what I expected.
01:16Just look at that!
01:21The fact that it just slides into that concrete fireplace.
01:27But this is incredible.
01:29This rock, you can see the strata all the way through,
01:32and it acts as a backplate here on the fire.
01:35So the heat will bounce off into the room.
01:37This is so thrilling to be in.
01:40It's really, um, it's a work of art.
01:52It's in the bedroom pods where you really feel the sensation of living in the tree canopy.
01:58And with no curtains, one could easily spot the Vikings coming up the fjord in their longboats.
02:05Not so much a bedroom, more a nest.

02:12There could be a little bird in here, just sitting up in the treetops.
02:16I'd love to wake up here, hear the early morning birdsong and the sunlight filtering through the pines.

02:36Summer House is a really elemental home.
02:41The sight is very natural and untamed.
02:44The architect has used basic materials, including glass, concrete and steel, very delicately.
02:52And in a way that redefines what a house and a room can be.
02:59So fixated on what a room is, my living room.
03:02It's got four walls and a door into it.
03:04This doesn't have four walls or a door into it.
03:06It's a completely different sort of space.
03:08I mean, it's saying a lot, this house.
03:09But what does this house say about Norwegian architecture?
03:12It says that you don't always have to hark back to an idea about the past and a vernacular.
03:19It says that to be specific and rooted in one context, you can just respond to the actual fabric of the geography.
03:24And there you have a truly Norwegian house because it couldn't be anywhere else.
