00:00A recently released body cam video shows a Rhode Island Assistant Attorney General
00:04caught in a heated arrest and her words are going viral.
00:07No, I'm not. No, I'm not.
00:10Special Assistant Attorney General Devin Flanagan, who is 34,
00:14was charged with one count of willful trespass,
00:17which is a misdemeanor after refusing to leave a Newport restaurant on August 14th.
00:22You guys just want to know, do you want to trespass?
00:24Anything we can do.
00:26Trespass, yeah. I just need to.
00:27Trespass, get him out.
00:28Yeah, pop him, please.
00:29Body cam footage shows Flanagan asking officers to turn off their cameras
00:33while identifying herself as an AG.
00:35But is that actually protocol?
00:37Short answer, no.
00:39Police are not required to stop recording simply because someone asks,
00:42even if they are a lawyer.
00:44According to New York Police Department Protocol,
00:46officers generally must keep body-worn cameras on
00:49and requests to turn them off are only allowed in limited,
00:52non-confrontational police-defined situations.
00:55Another woman with Flanagan, 34-year-old Hannan,
00:58also faces charges following the recent arrest.
01:01In the video, officers appear to struggle to detain her.
01:03I'm right here.
01:05No, no, I'm right here.
01:06I'm right here.
01:08I'm right here.
01:09Just put her in.
01:10No!
01:11Get back.
01:12Get back, bro.
01:13Get back!
01:14Get back!
01:14Get back!
01:15Get back!
01:16Get back!
01:16Get back!
01:16Get back!
01:17Cannon has now screamed her way to three misdemeanors,
01:19including disorderly conduct,
01:21willful trespassing,
01:22and resisting arrest.
01:23In a recent radio interview,
01:25Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Nirona
01:27reportedly called the behavior inexcusable
01:30and embarrassing for his office,
01:31but has not decided on discipline.
01:33Reports state Flanagan,
01:34who has been employed in the AG's office for seven years
01:37and currently works for the Criminal Division Appalite Unit,
01:40was the subject of an immediate internal review,
01:42expected to conclude within days,
01:44though personnel rules prevent further comment.
01:47And this isn't the first incident under Flanagan's boss's watch.
01:50In July of 2022,
01:52Special Assistant AG Edward Mullaney
01:54was reportedly pulled over and charged with suspicion of DUI
01:57and refusing a breathalyzer.
01:59And although the Attorney General's office
02:00emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for impaired driving,
02:03reports state Mullaney resigned but was later rehired
02:06and even received a 28% raise.
02:09As for Flanagan,
02:10it looks like the Attorney General may be regretting her words.
02:13Buddy, you're gonna regret this.
02:14Yeah.
02:15You're gonna regret it.
02:16The Attorney General now awaits her disciplinary decision at work
02:20and her and Hannon now face misdemeanor charges in Rhode Island,
02:24which can carry up to one year in jail and or fines,
02:27though sentencing varies by case and prior record.
