00:00The head of the Brica in Merano was a very efficient, very intelligent man, Danny Lahore.
00:11He tried to find another way to get into Italy.
00:18And somebody told him, you have a direct crossing point from the American zone in Austria.
00:30Into Italy, you don't need to send refugees from Salzburg to Innsbruck, to Nauders, to Merano.
00:40You can send them directly from the American zone, from Salzburg to Italy.
00:47So he went, Danny Lahore, he went to the border point on the Italian side,
00:57found out that everything is really possible, made a few arrangements with some carabinieri,
01:06and told us, now it's your job to send, to try and transport the people from your side.
01:16So we had a camp in Zalfeldon.
01:19And we, from Zalfeldon we could send by truck people to Krimel.
01:27The problem was now, from Krimel, only from Krimel to Kasseron.
01:32So we decided that we can send young and healthy people at night from Krimel to Kasseron by food.
01:43We started with small groups.
01:45Some were caught before we had arrangements.
01:50But finally we got good arrangements with the Austrians and with the Italians.
01:59And the accommodation at the tower and house was fantastic.
02:05And Miss Liesl Geisler, what do we call the mother of the children, she was fantastic.
02:15She made the difficulties and the suffering of the refugees much easier.
02:24It made their trip more pleasant.
02:29And it worked.
02:30And a thousand, five thousand Jewish refugees crossed the border on the road to Krimel Kasseron.
