00:00Hey Asker, my name is Mark and my question is why do you give so much importance to Mary?

00:06Hey Mark, do you belong to other religions? Are you a Protestant or are you an Atheist?

00:12Yeah, I'm a Protestant.

00:14Well, that's great. I'm glad that you have asked this question.

00:18What does the Fourth Commandment say?

00:21It says in the Fourth Commandment that we should honor and obey our fathers and mothers.

00:26Does that commandment exclude other people's mothers and fathers?

00:31Well, I don't think that's the case.

00:33Then we should honor Mary because she too is a mother and not just an ordinary mother but the mother of Jesus.

00:41Honoring her is also a response to what Scripture says in Luke 1.48 wherein Mary said,

00:47All generations will call me blessed.

00:49Do you believe that we become sons and daughters of God through our baptism?

00:54Yeah, I think so.

00:55If Jesus is the Son of God and God is our Father due to our baptism, then Jesus is our brother.

01:04And if Mary was chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus and Jesus is our brother, Mary is also our mother.

01:11That is why we honor her.

01:13Can I add something?

01:15Sure you can. I'm listening.

01:16I think that we don't give too much importance or too much focus to Mary.

01:22We are not here to point fingers but in my observation, actually it's you Protestants who give less importance to Mary.

01:31It seems to me that you have forgotten her role in salvation history.

01:35But she is just a human being.

01:37She is not a God.

01:38You even worship her and in that way, God is being robbed of what is proper or what is due to him.

01:44Yeah, we know that she is not a God.

01:47She is also a human being like us.

01:49That is why we don't worship her.

01:52If you read the Catechism of the Catholic Church, you cannot find any teaching there about the worship of Mary.

01:58And God is not being robbed but is actually glorified when we honor and appreciate his creation.

02:04In the same way that an artist is being honored when we appreciate his artwork.
