NOAA Pilots Enter the Eye of Hurricane Erin | Stunning Footage

Hurricane Erin reached Category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale on Saturday (16), with winds of up to 260 km/h, before weakening and being downgraded to Category 3 as it approached the Bahamas.

Dramatic images from the NOAA Aircraft Ops Center show the moment hurricane hunters flew directly into the storm’s eye during a historic reconnaissance mission.

🌪️ Erin continues to pose risks to the region, even after losing strength.
