'Downton Abbey' costumes and props on auction ahead of final film's release
A “Downton Abbey” auction preview opened in London on Monday, August 18, exhibiting costumes and props from the British television period drama and its spinoff films.
Celebrating the Emmy-winning series and the upcoming final film “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale,” the auction by Bonhams on London’s New Bond Street revisits the upper-class gentry of the Crawley estate, with highlights including wedding and party dresses, a vintage car, autographed scripts and clapper boards.
While the auction will be held online, Bonhams has opened a free exhibition for the public and potential bidders, offering fans of the acclaimed show a glimpse of the fictional estate and its character's luxury lifestyle.
The show’s production studio Carnival Films is providing most of the items on sale. The most expensive lot to go under the hammer is expected to be the Grantham family car, a 1925 Sunbeam 20/60hp Saloon valued at £25,000 - £35,000 ($33,804 to $47,325).
