09:12to give you guys some more insight into kalia we have a special guest
09:16so good to meet all of you we created kalia about 10 years ago and really wanted to form
09:32a brand that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity and function and i love how
09:39you guys have all styled all your pieces you got today our entire collection is rooted in performance
09:45if you're designing a look for pilates or run it needs to be able to function we believe there's
09:51beauty in the burn how's it going to work whenever she is doing a downward dog make sure that when
09:56you're designing a piece it can be used for working out going to grab coffee going out to grab cocktails
10:02with your friends it needs to be versatile so not only has kalia provided look books they've also
10:09provided all the fabrications for the challenge that's not all kalia is going to produce and sell
10:18the winning look from the winning collection that would be so cool to have a joseph mccray and kalia
10:25produce like i feel like it would eat down i love the idea of this like beauty in the burn
10:30so what if we have like fire on the runway like actual fire so you'll have all of today and part
10:40of tomorrow to create your fire worthy collections don't you love a one day challenge yes one day to

12:17it we decided to call our team the house of lotus because we wanted to feel the zen within the berm
12:24and so coming off the last challenge being in the bottom our stickler was our cohesion so as we're
12:31going through these fabrics that kalia provided us we're really paying attention to what color palette
12:36we want to do so that we really nail that cohesion this time because if we miss it two times in a row
12:41are we gonna be done for i love this fabric that was trying to get the colors out of this this has
12:48all your colors once again antonio is choosing the fabric and i'm getting a little anxious because
12:56the last time he chose fabric we were in the bottom can y'all roll the tape back so the fabric that i
13:03brought from home is in pink so let's have the inspiration of our collection be butterflies that's
13:08the best one out of all of them i think we should go with that i don't like that no you like this better
13:15i mean i like this i don't like that either but i mean i wanted to start with miss joan i want to know
13:20it is what it is oh is the drama already beginning you know working with the twins you know they're a
13:26whole vibe but our looks have to be cohesive i love miss joan but she's a little little old school
13:34and stuck in the back in the days this fabric's so cool it's just more young i'll make it work

13:50to become so connective so quickly and me and alex bonded so quickly it's so soft it's so cozy

14:05top it all sprouted from trying to use the aspects of a kimono i grew up in greensboro north carolina but
14:14my nana was a tailor from nagasaki japan so i find a lot of inspiration in what the japanese call
14:22intangible cultural treasures but my mama would say that i don't bring enough of the south with me

14:44of street wear and elegance i want to win project runway for my daughter ava it's right here having
14:51her change me as a person it gave me so much more drive and i do this all for her so i have

15:08to always like see things that i like about vintage fashion but then giving it like my own little twist
15:16what about yourself i grew up in like a hoedunk farm town i just felt inherently so different from
15:22the rest of my family the only thing i could really do was you know rely on my own creativity
15:28and imagination to kind of distract me from maybe not feeling like i belong there did they accept you
15:34as you are like you know when i finally did come out they were like we don't get it yet but we just
15:42don't want to lose you so we're gonna try to figure this out i feel really blessed to be able to have my
15:49family in my life so it makes me want to really push myself to win this for them

16:05i do think the silhouette of this skirt you still have to figure out oh lord this might send me home
16:11i am a technical designer and i am a serious workaholic my family is jamaican and i've always
16:20been raised with all the elders around me doing multiple things even if it's not their job they're
16:25gonna figure out how to do it that day and do it so i have to push myself because this workout to
16:31weekend challenge is taking me out of my comfort zone i really wanted to do something that was
16:37extremely comfortable i think it feels a little too demure i think i made the right decision
16:44i was the one who fought to use this print because mrs joan didn't like it she still doesn't like it
16:48okay so you did it again you wanted a print again everybody wants this print
16:57groundbreaking this circle skirt yeah i can cut a circle out right now and do this in 10 minutes
17:04really we're kind of not the exact same look from the last challenge but you're making a jacket and a
17:13jacket and a skirt a jacket and a skirt let me tell you a little something about christian seriano
17:20christian come in the workroom like are you sure about that or he be walking around like oh okay that
17:28little face be killing me with them glasses and that hair perfectly swapped it to the side the top
17:34being fabulous is very important here we should develop this more because you already know you can
17:39make a cool jacket i'm gonna listen to christian because i know i'm taking a risk but i do not want to
17:43be in the bottom again you got a lot to do i got you okay let's get it i'm kind of going for like that
17:51modern with a little bit of tron this sash doesn't do anything she couldn't do any athletic things with
17:59this hanging what are all these lines on this so i kind of want to achieve this kind of like texture
18:08all of these lines you're going to weave the inspirations for this design is the kalia logo
18:14it's like a twisted string it's like very dynamic what are you doing it's going to be like a more
18:23like athletic fancy corset bustier kind of thing this makes no sense for an athletic look that scares me
18:34athleisure specifically is not something that i normally do unfortunately time is not on our side
18:41in this competition christian has his doubts about this corset but we're sticking to our guns
18:49what are you doing i am doing an oversized hoodie which i'm thinking about cropping i did the pin tuck
18:56in my hand it's gonna have the same pin tuck in all over the pants as well so you're also doing
19:03a sweat oversized sweat oversized sweat pant in the same fabric is the pant wide like that wide
19:11you haven't even looked at each other's stuff and she's like right she's right in front of you
19:15honestly i really don't know much about what my team is doing this is it yes looks very similar
19:22i haven't looked at the other designers on my team i've just been too focused so we just have a
19:28wide pant off on the runway in the same fabric what the like what am i gonna do next i need to think fast
19:36and pivot into some other different silhouette if i don't succeed i'm worried it might put me on the
19:41bottom
19:48so i'm looking at team lotus and it does not fit the brief that we got what's going on
19:53anything so it's gonna be the papa so we both have mesh their looks are looking a little all over the
19:57place i think that we're gonna take this one home i look at the other team it's like crickets in that
20:03side of the room no one's really talking to each other and here we are like you know blah blah
20:09and then at night she just puts a glove in honey okay this do this like we're helping each other
20:15yes yes you think i hate to tell you but you will be the losing team

20:24this very cool jacket with a pleated skirt that's the top i think so so how does one do anything
20:39athletic in that top
20:45i think i'm over here eating it up and it's just like yeah no

20:59so different when i design on paper and design you you trend's pleated skirt it's really short i

21:14some nice shorts and then the cargo pockets

21:30you have no side seam there's no side seam interesting you can't do that look at her butt
21:37that's crazy these pants are styled after a japanese hakama pant where there aren't really
21:45side seams and all of the volume is put into pleats across the back since we're paying homage to my
21:53japanese ancestress it's really important for me to nail this look that i make and i am feeling the

22:10when that little hem falls out i'm gonna tear it up i'm feeling really good about my look but what
22:16if your team doesn't but after the model fitting i'm feeling a little worried about my team alex has
22:22these grand ideas but she is running out of time and angelo's work is looking a little simple if jesus

24:16that goes from workout to weekend you worked in teams and you had only one day to create your

24:33and our guest judge and co-owner of the fashion line favorite daughter sarah foster
24:42i'm so excited to see miss sarah foster she has a really good head on her shoulders around how to
24:47make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable in the clothes she's gorgeous okay we're ready let's start
24:52the show it's gonna be flaming hot
24:54i wish i had a marshmallow this got flammable hair now wait a minute i told you it was gonna
25:00be hot and i was not talking about hans and france
25:15i do feel like i have successfully captured the essence of this challenge with creating something
25:20that goes from workout to weekend with the pin tucking the silhouette the styling is really good
25:27i'm feeling really confident oh she's a professional you know you know
25:32look at us now i'm very proud of this look my look looks very modern sexy and fun and the red line
25:40on the jacket is everything that is a short skirt but she's got some good legs look at us now
25:47i'm just looking at the outfit it's not as bad as i expected it to be but i know what's going on
25:59on the inside this fessy fessy i'm not happy about it it could have been worse it could have also
26:08been better i like that i would wear that you're very generous oh no
26:13with my athleisure look i'm feeling pretty satisfied i like it i think it's cute it's nothing
26:22like really shocking but i am just elated that the athleisure challenge is in the past she's got it
26:35she looks amazing i've worked hard to achieve that details that those string
26:40woven by hand i cut all those holes individually it takes a lot of work to create that textile
26:46i want to make sure that every piece that i make is a labor of love
26:51i don't get that curly hair with that
26:56with that side fin it's flowing down the runway it's got movement oh it looks so good
27:04i would wear that now i may have slayed a little bit too hard this week so
27:08i'm hoping that it can pull this team through to the wind
27:17this look it's very universal this girl can do pilates and then put some heels on put a jacket on
27:23and go have a cocktail with the girls at night i'm proud of myself it would mean a lot to win this
27:28challenge and have that collab with leah i'm happy with how this look turned out i feel like it's
27:39me and i'm starting to be more confident in what i'm designing and believe whatever i'm creating is good
27:46i see my look coming down the runway and i'm thinking okay yes even though i didn't choose this fabric
27:57i was able to be a team player and i think that she looks fabulous i love the drama

28:46are moving how powerful she looks i'm feeling great i could definitely see this in stores and see a lot
28:53of people wanting these pants wanting this bomber even the bag i love this our team everything was
28:59executed beautifully and i think that that showed on the runway we did go guys we did it i am not
29:06worried about myself but it's hard to tell you know it's two different vibes so i hope that the switch

31:40and she could throw on a pump or a heel and go straight to the weekend which that was the
31:45challenge thank you so much i would wear that jacket to the gym but then i'd also wear it to
31:50dinner that night with a pair of jeans i don't i i'm into you i don't know how else i can say i mean
31:55i was into all of it i like your look too i like her vibe it stands out it's memorable to me she's badass
32:01and flirty at the same time thank you joseph thank you so much everyone all right belania you're next oh
32:09lauren i really love the work that you did on this top i think it's really beautiful i love
32:16all the detail that you made with the pockets correct and i love the fact that you considered
32:24an option she can be reserved with the turtleneck and she can be super sexy without it yep i mean i
32:30like that fabric as you can see absolutely the detail of the skirt is really cool and it's a flattering
32:37waistband waistband waistbands can go very unflattering girl very easily whatever it is i like

32:51a lot of people cannot do and that is to shut me up wow i was so tough on you on the runway

33:09a girl could really work out with this yeah really work out with it and then wear it out on the weekend
33:16i would wear those pants in a heartbeat the pan turns into a straight leg pant she could wear it like
33:22this i mean she could open up a little well done on that fabulous chic and effortless what i also love
33:31is the detail the fact that you thought about the zipper on the side can you turn around and that
33:37little pocket with that little black detail those details all matter yeah right yeah thank you nina
33:45i want to be this girl that would wear this thank you so much but now is the moment of truth

36:24here the silhouette i think is nice i like the length i like that it's not a midi and it's not a
36:28mini i think that's versatile a lot of people can wear that it's just really that's that's all i liked
36:32about it you guys like the ties hey i love dangling i think it kind of looks like a tampon i think
36:38oh i mean this is this is unwearable i also don't understand this girl i think the work that you've
36:45done i think it's quite beautiful but it doesn't scream active wear to me at all like i don't get
36:51it that's the problem that's the problem yeah you needed to make this a top a pair of black leggings
36:58and call it a day and you would have had a hit this didn't need to be a cocktail dress out of context
37:05all right angelo let's hear about your look um i designed men's streetwear so i just wanted to
37:11stay true to myself i think where you have to be careful angelo is that it felt to me a little safe
37:20and boring you really need to bring in a sense of drama step it up listen i'm a basic bitch so i love
37:29sweats i think this is cool i like this it's different you know i mean it's not for me but i
37:33appreciate that you added that detail yeah on sweats i think it's really well made it's just
37:39there was no showmanship to it yeah you know i think that's where you fell flat okay thank you

37:51i incorporate into the way that i create different pieces is that part of your heritage to kimono yes my
37:57grandmother was japanese okay so i go to the sauna a lot and i love a corset i don't care what the
38:03situation is at the sauna well obviously you're not going to wear a corset in the sauna but post
38:09sauna you can but you gave her a corset she doesn't look comfortable at all she can't work out in this
38:16guys the story has to match you cannot piss on me and tell me it's raining i'm sorry okay well the
38:22corset you're right but the pant and the sweater top i did like i liked the movement coming down the
38:27runway i don't know when it was coming down i was like oh it looks kind of like laura piano vibes
38:33come on guys turn around please no do you see the seam of the pant when she turns around there's
38:40the puckering yeah it is a struggle in the back there's a little bit of a problem with this bib that
38:46falls from the corset i think there's too many ideas put in the flap in the front the flap on the
38:52arms she's playing homage to her heritage and yes i love that but i don't see that in the look

39:08let's talk about angelo it is a tough competition to be in if you're that much of a minimalist
39:13because this is a show and you're competing with people that are going to razzle dazzle you have to
39:19remember you are in a competition you have to remember that give us a show
39:26vj's look was actually really good i hated it the ties were insane i thought the dress was really
39:33well made it was just out of context yes i would buy that it was the wrong story the sneakers with it
