00:00The Asia Cup is around the corner and one of the teams that all eyes will be on is the

00:05Indian national side.

00:07There's a lot of chatter around what the squad will look like given the controversies that

00:10have swirled around the players involved, so let's dive right in.

00:15The biggest reason why everyone is buzzing about the Indian selection is because of Gautam

00:19Gambhir and what kind of a squad he will pick.

00:22Gambhir has been instrumental in curating the new look test squad, a much younger side.

00:28So there is a lot of talk of him shaping this one as well.

00:30Of course, a lot of the seniors already announced their retirement from the T20 set up, but will

00:36there be any surprises here?

00:38Media reports are going on a spiral of Shubman Gill and Yashaswi Jaiswal possibly not being

00:43in the reckoning.

00:44But why is this a shocker?

00:45They were not part of the last T20 series that India played.

00:49Let's look at the side that took on England some months ago.

00:52The captain was Surya Kumar Yadav.

00:54Akshar Patel was his vice captain.

00:56So logically that should continue.

00:58As of now, there are three captains in charge of the three different formats, Rohit Sharma

01:03for the one-dayers, Surya Kumar Yadav for T20 internationals and Shubman Gill for Tess.

01:08Are the selectors impressed with Gill's performance as a batter enough to get him a look in for

01:13the T20 lineup?

01:15If yes, how and in what capacity?

01:18The Indian T20 side has a rather settled batting order.

01:22There is the firepower that Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma bring right at the top as openers.

01:27As a backup opener, the squad could rope in a Yashaswi Jaiswal, who is pretty lethal in this format too.

01:34Then the newly promoted number three, Tilak Parma.

01:37Now this is a very solid top three here.

01:39Surya Kumar Yadav is fit to take the field after his surgery.

01:42He has been recuperating well and hitting his strides.

01:45We've seen him get back to training afterwards, so he comes in then.

01:48So Shubman Gill may not really find a place here.

01:52Now we come to the middle order.

01:54Now there's a lot of talk of Shreyas Iyer coming into the 11 possibly after his diligence showing

01:59across domestic tournaments over the last one year and the ODI format as well.

02:03Then that will mostly have to be at the expense of one of the players who are coming down the order.

02:08Let's look at who are the others in that lineup.

02:11You have a backup keeper that should be a toss-up.

02:13The keeper should be a toss-up between.

02:15Dhruv Jurel and Jitesh Sharma.

02:19All-rounder, Hardik Pandya will be in.

02:21So too, Rinku Singh, who is a game changer.

02:23Can Shivam Dubey still find a place in this mix?

02:27He will have to fight someone like Washington Sundar for a spot in the squad.

02:31Someone was impressed all with his performance against England in the test series that concluded recently.

02:38The spin department should see Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarti,

02:41unless the selectors are trying to shake things up and get a top performer from the Indian Premier League or so.

02:47But the biggest inclusion in the bowling department has to be that of Jaspreet Bumbra,

02:53the man who has been in the thick of it for the last few weeks.

02:57There has been a massive uproar over his workload management, as you can see, but rather the lack of it,

03:11much of which continues to simmer even as India approaches the Asia Cup.

03:28So, Bumbra's availability, especially in the backdrop of all of this,

03:58does come as a big talking point here in the lead-up to the Asia Cup.

04:02And Asia Cup, being a T20 tournament, shouldn't trouble the pacer all too much,

04:07but he will need some solid support from the other end.

04:11In the absence of an injured Mohamed Shami, and with news of Siraj possibly missing out this one,

04:16the onus will be on a few of the personnel who showed promise in the IPL, like Arshdeep Singh,

04:21Prasid Krishna or Harshit Rana. But how does this squad overall look to you?
