Scott Meekings from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said eight appliances and up to 40 firefighters tackled a large blaze in Clacton-on-Sea. The fire, which started in a furniture store, affected three businesses and led to around 60 people being evacuated.

00:00So we received the call approximately half past midnight early hours this morning.
00:06When crews arrived, they were faced with a fully developed ferocious fire
00:11and we had to increase our resources immediately to deal with the size of the fire.
00:18We had approximately eight fire appliances attend this incident at its peak,
00:24which is around 35 to 40 firefighters attempting to tackle the fire.
00:30The initial premises involved was a furniture store and due to the type of content and the fire loading,
00:39it caused a rapid escalation of the fire and it spread to two other businesses.
00:45Fire crews worked extremely hard to contain the fire and surround it,
00:52so it was only those three premises, the three businesses that were actually affected.
00:58Approximately 60 people were evacuated with thanks to our colleagues from Essex Police and Tendron District Council,
01:06of which most of them have now been allowed back into their premises.
01:10However, Tendron District Council are still supporting the incident,
01:15looking to re-home or temporarily re-house 10 other people.
