00:21You are part of the heart and soul of Lilo y Stitch. Do you remember when, what were you doing when you received an email, a call, or how do you get to know that we are going to have a live action of Lilo y Stitch? Because you were a nanny in the first one in the animated.
00:39I think I remember reading it in the trades, you know, Hollywood Reporter or Variety, and they said they're going to be a live action. I went, wait a minute, let me check on this. Obviously, I'm not going to play Nanny because I'm not a teenager anymore.
00:51But I had read that there's other characters and I really liked the character of Tutu, the grandma, but they said, Tia, that grandma is not for you yet. But the Mrs. Kekoa role really spoke to me because she's the mentor to the character that I played in 2022, uh, 2002. Oh my goodness gracious.
01:14Perfect. Second, pay all those bills I saw in the kitchen. Yes. And third, file for health insurance for you and Lilo. Got it.
01:26When you were talking with Nanny in the movie, how, I don't know, it's like a surreal thing because it's talking a character that you were playing before, younger, and now you're like the voice of the experience.
01:41And we know that there are some little changes in the arc of Nanny. And for me, that changes are very related to the conversation that you have with Nanny.
01:51So, can you give me, like, these highlights of what is happening inside Tia when she's talking with the actress who made, to play Nanny? What is happening inside you? What are you feeling?
02:05Uh, it was really an amazing and surreal day when I first arrived on set. And my first scene was when I visit the house.
02:15Um, and, and it was sort of like Nanny's talking to Nanny, you know? Uh, and I, I really had this out of body experience like, wow, this time warp that, that has passed of 23 years where I was that young girl and now I'm mentoring that young girl.
02:34And it was magical. It was, it was really, uh, something to be on the set.
02:38The biggest moment was when the director, Dean Fleischer-Camp, uh, took us on a tour of the entire set.
02:45This is the house and that's, you know, that, blah, blah, blah.
02:49And this is the hammock where Nanny sings Aloha Oi.
02:53And I remember back to, you know, when I first mentioned that to Chris Sanders, the original director, and I came up with the idea of singing Aloha Oi to say goodbye to my sister.
03:06And it just, it was a moment of, oh my gosh, that was my contribution to the film.
03:10And, and, uh, you know, Dean Fleischer-Camp said, oh yes, that's right.
03:14I remember reading the press, uh, about that, that you were the original, you know, um, person that suggested this.
03:20So I, I love being part of this world and I'm so glad to be invited back in again.
03:26He is your responsibility.
03:28Got it.
03:29We promise.
03:30Do you, by any chance, have the opportunity to be on set with the Stitch animatronic, uh, puppet?
03:38Uh, not the animatronic, uh, puppet, but they did have, uh, a puppeteer bring him on set for, uh, for us to see.
03:47Um, and I remember it was a big secret.
03:49They didn't want, they wanted to make sure nobody took pictures of it, that it was, uh, uh, protected in a cylinder so that they couldn't get any pictures.
03:56But unfortunately, maybe about a couple months later, I think it was on set in a public place and somebody saw the, the puppet.
04:06Look, I got a dog.
04:08You should have a dog.
04:10Mm, yeah.
04:12Rough.
04:12Everybody loved Lilo and Stitch.
04:15And this is, for me, one of the best live action that Disney has ever made.
04:20What, what do you think that is like the secret that everybody loved Lilo and Stitch?
04:25Um, I know from 23 years ago, it was, everyone loves Hawaii, and everyone has some sort of issue with their family.
04:35And like, you know, when he says, the family is small and broken, but still good.
04:41You know, I think that really touches people's hearts.
04:43Uh, and the fact that in the modern world, we don't often get to live near our biological parents and our siblings, and that sometimes the family is who you find, uh, where you live.
04:57And so these become our people.
04:59This, our, our little family unit.
05:01Um, I think all of that makes for a very modern, um, story.

05:11It's little, but still good.
