At Paediatric Age, Higher Mortality in Males – Hence Polygamy Allowed in Islam – Dr Zakir Naik
In this educational talk, Dr. Zakir Naik explains how natural demographic patterns, including higher mortality rates among males during childhood, contribute to the imbalance between men and women in many societies. He discusses how Islam’s allowance of polygamy provides a practical and moral solution to such social realities, ensuring the protection, dignity, and care of women. The session blends statistical evidence with Islamic wisdom, showing how divine laws align with human needs across time.

00:00This is a misconception. One day my non-Muslim friend came and told me, oh you Muslims, 80% marry 4 wives, 80%.
00:10Not even 5% marry more than one. 4 wives, in my full life I have met millions of Muslims. I only know one or two of them who have got 4 wives.
00:22There may be more. Maybe more. But I only know two. It's not that common, 80%. I said okay. You get me 10 people. 10 people who you know in this area who have got 4 wives, I will give you a million rupees at all my friend. Only 10.
00:44You are saying 80%? In this area there are a million Muslims, correct? You get me only 10 Muslims with marriage certificate before this date when I give you the challenge.
00:54Who have got 4 wives, I will give you a million rupees. Then you kept quiet. So these are exaggerations. Polygamy marriage in India is 4.3%.
01:03You go everywhere. The average polygamy marriage in the whole world may be less than 10%. In the Gulf country may be 20%. In some countries may be less. Average would be 10%. Maximum you want to stretch it 15-20% or more than that.
01:19Marrying more than one wife. It is not 4 wives. There are 4 wives that are one of the percentage. Very small.
01:24So these are misconceptions spread by the media. So now coming to the reason. What are the logical reasons that Islam has permitted some of the Muslim men to have more than one wife?
01:42Let's analyze what are the logical reasons that Islam has permitted some men to have more than one wife?
01:53By nature, if you analyze scientifically, on average, men and women, male and female, are born in equal numbers.
02:03In the pediatric age itself, in the young age, it is called as pediatric age, there are more deaths in the male children as compared to female children.
02:14Because medically, a female child is stronger than the male child.
02:19Medically, a female can fight diseases and germs better than the male.
02:26So in pediatric age itself, there are more deaths in the male children as compared to female children.
02:32So the population of female increases in pediatric age itself, if both are born in equal numbers.
02:38Then there are deaths due to war, due to accidents, due to diseases.
02:44There are more deaths in the male children as compared to female children as compared to female children.
02:51So today if we analyze, there are more number of females as compared to males.
02:56Generally, if you do not interfere or do some evil practice, and if male and female are born in equal number, then the population of female in the world from pediatric age itself, as you keep on growing, the population, the percentage of women will be more than the male.
03:18It's in few countries like India, where I come from, and China, and few other countries, where the female population is less.
03:26You know why? Because there is female feticide and female infanticide.
03:30You have big billboards in India, you know, mainly in villages, saying, spend 500 rupees and save 500,000 rupees.
03:40That means, do a test like ultrasonography, amniosentences, come to know it's a female child, abort her, 500 rupees.
03:48And you save 500,000 in dowry.
03:51In India, we have a practice that when the marriage takes place between man and woman, the woman gives dowry.
03:58In Islam, it's the opposite. The man gives money.
04:01In India, it is mainly the woman gives money.
04:05Okay, you want to get married? You give money to the man.
04:08And depending upon, if it's a normal graduate, then maybe 100,000.
04:12Engineer, maybe 500,000. Doctor, maybe 2-3 million.
04:17As though you are selling herds and cattle in the marketplace.
04:21So, it is ads telling to abort.
04:29And according to the statistics of United Nations, in the year 2015, when a report was published on the 6th of July 2015 in Al Jazeera,
04:42I have not updated then, you know, because when I give a talk, I update, but I was so busy.
04:46Normally, every time I give a talk, I update and I give the latest statistics better.
04:50So, the statistics was about 10 years old.
04:53Because I remember when I had done the Dawa training program in 2016.
04:56So, that time I had updated. So, every year it gets updated.
04:59So, in 2015, according to UNO, the article which came on the 6th of July 2015, it said,
05:08Every day in India, more than 7,000 fetuses are being killed after they are identified as female or after they are born, they are killed.
05:21whole day in the year diyorum you do!
05:23Vicky, all through the communal environment.
05:25So, travelling again.
05:279,000 fetuses is taken per Citadel local.
05:29Ok cuz...
