Brisbane residents who live under flight paths could soon be enjoying a little more peace and quiet under plans to share air traffic noise above more of the city. There are just a few days left for residents to give feedback on the plan. Some are concerned it would mean more noise for the busiest suburbs.

00:00Bridget McKelvie is proud to call the Brisbane suburb of Highgate Hill home,
00:07but finds the noise unbearable.
00:10We've turned into this crazy flight path where we can't sleep,
00:15we can't enjoy the peace of our homes.
00:17The noise of passing planes are the soundtrack of her day.
00:20I counted yesterday morning in the space of half an hour,
00:23there were 15 jumbo jets flying directly over our house.
00:26She worries others are in the firing line.
00:29Air Services Australia wants to share the noise over Brisbane.
00:32So the work we're doing at the moment looks at communities
00:35that have multiple operations over them,
00:37either day and night or multiple directions of flight paths,
00:41and we're coming up with designs to spread those out a little more.
00:44In what world are we living that our public policy
00:47is to share the harm across communities?
00:50The changes would see less traffic over areas like Cedar Creek
00:54and Samford Valley in the North West,
00:56but more over Everton Park and the CBD.
00:59To the south, Logan City gets a reprieve,
01:02as more flights depart over Bulimba, Balmoral and West End.
01:06There's also a new option over land at night.
01:09Depending on the change,
01:10it can take between 6 and 12 months to implement them,
01:13because we have to go through a process of very stringent safety assessment.
01:17Brisbane residents have until midnight on Sunday to give feedback on the plan,
01:22but some fear the proposal won't be able to restore the peace.
01:25What they are trying to do is shifting the noise from one community to another community,
01:31and so we don't believe that this is the right approach.
01:35There are calls to follow other airports like Sydney and Adelaide.
01:38Which is a curfew, ideally combined with a flight cab.
01:43We are not seeing any sacrifice, any compromise whatsoever.
01:48And I think our status as an iconic liveable city is at risk.
01:52For that reason.
