PM Modi pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on Independence Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in Delhi on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day.

01:12Symbolism is a very important aspect of human outlook.

01:17And symbolism is something which conveys a lot without even uttering a word.

01:22And exactly what the Prime Minister, having worn a saffron jacket and a saffron safa,

01:27at 100 days completion of Operation Sindhur, a resounding military, political and diplomatic success of India

01:34over our long-term adversary, Pakistan, and a resounding victory of India over terrorism,

01:42resounding military victory over Pakistan, and everything else.

01:46Having said that, coming back, 78 years of independence in a nation's history is a very, very small time.

01:53It takes civilisation to build nations.

01:56And we are proud to be descendants of 5,000 years of civilisation.

02:01That is why, within 78 years, we have reached where we have reached.

02:10We are the fourth largest economy in the world.

02:13Our life expectancy has gone beyond count, if I can say that.

02:17The British has left it for 52 years.

02:20And this is what a good nation, a good governance can do to the citizens of India.

02:26And I want to make a special question of Operation Sindhur, where we not only hit the terror targets,

02:32we hit the air bases and the military installations of Pakistan at will.

02:37This was the first time in the history of the world two nuclear powers came to war.

02:41And first time in the history of the world, a nuclear power supported by a third nuclear power went down on its knees within 88 to 90 hours.

02:51Now, that is the military might of India, which every Indian citizen should be proud of.

02:56And I wish every citizen a very, very happy Independence Day once again, Gaurav.
