09:09so to give you guys some more insight into kalia we have a special guest vice president and head
09:19designer for kalia alicia scott
09:27so good to meet all of you we created kalia about 10 years ago and really wanted to form a brand
09:33that is the perfect juxtaposition of fashion and femininity and function and i love how you guys
09:40have all styled all your pieces you got today our entire collection is rooted in performance if
09:45you're designing a look for pilates or run it needs to be able to function we believe there's beauty
09:51in the burn how's it going to work whenever she is doing a downward dog make sure that when
09:56you're designing a piece it can be used for working out going to grab coffee going out to grab
10:02cocktails with your friends it needs to be versatile so not only has kalia provided look books it also
10:09provided all the fabrications for the challenge that's not all kalia is going to produce and sell
10:18the winning look from the winning collection that would be so cool to have a joseph mccray and kalia
10:25produce that i feel like it would eat down i love the idea of this like beauty in the burn
10:30so what if we have like fire on the runway like actual fire so you'll have all of today and part
10:40of tomorrow to create your fire worthy collections don't you love a one day challenge yes one day to
10:48do this as if there weren't enough stress already the burn of it all

12:07fabrics i just want to be cohesive i do like this color story situation going over here but we got
12:14we got to pick a group of fabrics and all go with it we decided to call our team the house of lotus
12:20because we wanted to feel the zen within the burn and so coming off the last challenge being in the
12:26bottom our stickler was our cohesion so as we're going through these fabrics that kalia provided us
12:33we're really paying attention to what color palette we want to do so that we really nailed that cohesion
12:39this time because if we miss it two times in a row are we gonna be done for i love this fabric
12:45that was trying to get the colors out of this this has all your colors
12:48once again antonio is choosing the fabric and i'm getting a little anxious because the last time
12:57he chose fabric we were in the bottom can y'all roll the tape back the fabric that i brought from
13:03home is in pink so let's have the inspiration of our collection be butterflies that's the best one
13:08out of all of them i think we should go with that i don't like that no you like this better i mean
13:15i like this i don't like that either but i mean i wanted to start with miss joan i want to know
13:20it is what it is oh is the drama already beginning you know working with the twins you know they're a
13:26whole vibe but our looks have to be cohesive i love miss joan but she's a little little old school
13:34and stuck in the back in the days this fabric's so cool it's just more young i'll make it work

13:50so connective so quickly and me and alex bonded so quickly it's so soft it's so cozy like she's

14:05sprouted from trying to use the aspects of a kimono i grew up in greensboro north carolina but
14:14my nana was a tailor from nagasaki japan so i find a lot of inspiration in what the japanese call
14:22intangible cultural treasures but my mama would say that i don't bring enough of the south with me

14:44of streetwear and elegance i want to win project runway for my daughter ava it's right here having

15:09see things that i like about vintage fashion but then giving it like my own little twist
15:15what about yourself i grew up in like a hoedunk farm town i just felt inherently so different from
15:22the rest of my family the only thing i could really do was you know rely on my own creativity and
15:28imagination to kind of distract me from maybe not feeling like it belonged there did they accept you
15:34as you are like you know when i finally did come out they were like we don't get it yet but we just
15:42don't want to lose you so we're going to try to figure this out i feel really blessed to be able
15:48to have my family in my life so it makes me want to really push myself to win this for them

16:05i do think the silhouette of this skirt you still have to figure out oh lord this might send me home
16:12i am a technical designer and i am a serious workaholic my family is jamaican and i've always
16:20been raised with all the elders around me doing multiple things even if it's not their job they're
16:25going to figure out how to do it that day and do it so i have to push myself because this workout
16:31weekend challenge is taking me out of my comfort zone i really wanted to do something that was extremely
16:37comfortable i think it feels a little too demure i think i made the right decision i was the one
16:45who fought to use this spring because mrs joan didn't like it she still doesn't like it okay
16:49so you did it again you wanted a print again everybody wants this print
16:57groundbreaking this circle skirt yeah i can cut a circle out right now and do this in 10 minutes really
17:04we're kind of not the exact same look from the last challenge but you're making a jacket and a jacket
17:13and a skirt a jacket and a skirt let me tell you a little something about christian seriano christian
17:20will come in the workroom like are you sure about that or he be walking around like oh okay that little
17:28face be killing me with them glasses and that hair perfectly swapped it to the side the top being
17:34fabulous is very important here we should develop this more because you already know you can make a
17:39cool jacket i'm gonna listen to christian because i know i'm taking a risk but i do not want to be in
17:44the bottom again you got a lot to do i got you okay let's get it i'm kind of going for like that modern
17:51with a little bit of tron this sash doesn't do anything she couldn't do any athletic things with
17:59this hanging what are all these lines on this so i kind of want to achieve this kind of like texture
18:08all of these lines you're gonna weave the inspirations for this design is the clea logo it's
18:14like a twisted string it's like very dynamic what are you doing it's going to be like a more like
18:23athletic fancy corset bustier kind of thing this makes no sense for an athletic look that scares me
18:34athleisure specifically is not something that i normally do unfortunately time is not on our side
18:41in this competition christian has his doubts about this corset but we're sticking to our guns
18:49what are you doing i am doing an oversized hoodie which i'm thinking about cropping i did the pin tuck
18:56in my hand it's gonna have the same pin tuck in all over the pants as well so you're also doing
19:03a sweat oversized sweat oversized sweat pant in the same fabric is the pant wide like that wide
19:11you haven't even looked at each other's stuff and she's like right she's right in front of you
19:15honestly i really don't know much about what my team is doing this is it yes looks very similar
19:22i haven't looked at the other designers on my team i've just been too focused so we just have a
19:28wide pant off on the runway in the same fabric what the like what am i gonna do next i need to think
19:35fast and pivot into some other different silhouette if i don't succeed i'm worried it might put me on the
19:41bottom so i'm looking at team lotus and it does not fit the brief that we got what's going to be the
19:53papa so we both have mesh their looks are looking a little all over the place i think that we're going
19:59to take this one home i look at the other team it's like crickets in that side of the room no one's
20:04really talking to each other and here we are like you know blah blah and then at night she just puts
20:10a glove on honey okay this do this like we're helping each other yes yes you think i hate to
20:18tell you but you will be the losing team are you ready let's go models let's go
20:24this very cool jacket with a pleated skirt that's the top i think so so how does one do anything
20:39athletic in that top sure i think i'm over here eating it up and it's just like yeah no

20:55like the whole look is gonna go kapuz so different when i design on paper and design you you trend's
21:03pleated skirt it's really short i thought it was a mistake but it's not a mistake because mama i'm a

21:45side seams and all of the volume is put into pleats across the back since we're paying homage to my
21:53japanese ancestress it's really important for me to nail this look that i make and i am feeling the

24:15for kalia that goes from workout to weekend you worked in teams and you had only one day to create
24:21your collection all right let's meet our judges cfda award-winning stylist in
24:26image architect la roach editor-in-chief of el magazine nina garcia
24:35and our guest judge and co-owner of the fashion line favorite daughter sarah foster
24:42i'm so excited to see miss sarah foster she has a really good head on her shoulders around how to
24:47make a woman feel beautiful and comfortable in the clothes she's gorgeous okay we're ready let's
24:51start the show it's going to be flaming hot i wish i had a marshmallow this got flammable hair now wait
24:59a minute i told you it was going to be hot and i was not talking about hans and france
25:10i do feel like i have successfully captured the essence of this challenge with creating something
25:20that goes from workout to weekend with the pin tuck in the silhouette the styling is really good
25:26i'm feeling really confident oh she's a professional you know you know look at us now
25:34i'm very proud of this look my look looks very modern sexy and fun and the red line on the jacket
25:41is everything that is a short skirt but she's got some good legs look at us now
25:47i'm just looking at the outfit it's not as bad as i expected it to be but i know what's going on
25:59on the inside this fessy fessy i'm not happy about it it could have been worse it could have also been
26:08better i like that i would wear that you're very generous oh no
26:17with my athleisure look i'm feeling pretty satisfied i like it i think it's cute it's nothing
26:22like really shocking but i am just elated that the athleisure challenge is in the past she's got it
26:35she looks amazing i've worked hard to achieve that details that those string
26:40woven by hand i cut all those holes individually it takes a lot of work to create that textile
26:46i want to make sure that every piece that i make is a labor of love i don't get that curly hair with

26:56with its side fin it's flowing down the runway it's got movement oh it looks so good
27:04i would wear that now i may have slayed a little bit too hard this week so
27:08i'm hoping that it can pull this team through to the wind
27:17this look it's very universal this girl can do pilates and then put some heels on put a jacket
27:23on and go have a cocktail with the girls at night i'm proud of myself it would mean a lot to win this
27:28challenge and have that collab with leah coming from the crowd i'ma shut it down
27:36i'm happy with how this look turned out i feel like it's me and i'm starting to be more
27:42confident in what i'm designing and believe whatever i'm creating is good

27:56fabric i was able to be a team player and i think that she looks fabulous i love the drama

28:51this in stores and see a lot of people wanting these pants wanting this bomber even the bag i love this
28:57our team everything was executed beautifully and i think that that showed on the runway

31:41throw on a pump or a heel and go straight to the weekend which that was the challenge thank you so
31:46much i would wear that jacket to the gym but then i'd also wear it to dinner that night with a pair
31:51of jeans i don't i i'm into you i don't know how else i can say i mean i was into all of it i like
31:57your look too i like her vibe it stands out it's memorable to me she's badass and flirty at the same

32:10love the work that you did on this top i think it's really beautiful i love all the detail that
32:17you made with the pockets correct and i love the fact that you considered an option she can be

36:23positive here the silhouette i think is nice i like the length i like that it's not a midi and
36:27it's not a mini i think that's versatile a lot of people can wear that it's just really that's
36:32that's all i liked about it you guys like the ties hey i love dangling i think it kind of looks
36:37like a tampon i think oh i mean this is this is unwearable i also don't understand this girl i think
36:45the work that you've done i think it's quite beautiful but it doesn't scream active wear to me

36:54a top a pair of black leggings and call it a day and you would have had a hit this didn't need to be

38:09post sauna you can but you gave her a corset she doesn't look comfortable at all she can't work
