00:00Next, we look forward to honoring three-time Oscar nominee, Golden Globe Award winner,
00:08an action movie icon, and a friend of mine.
00:12He's a very unique man.
00:14He's somebody that doesn't do these things.
00:17I said, I wonder if he'll accept, because some people don't really want to be honored.
00:22They don't care.
00:23But he was very honored to be honored, I will tell you.
00:28He's a very special guy, a real talent, never been given the credit for the talent.
00:36There was nobody else who could have done the roles that he did like he did.
00:39I'm not even close, and they've tried, and they didn't work out too well.
00:43His name is Sylvester Stallone.
00:45So, it's very few, almost, if any, people that could have taken a name and made it so incredible,
01:02like Rocky, Rambo, Creed, and others.
01:08But think of it, Rocky, Rambo.
01:10If you did one, you're good.
01:12You do two.
01:14And I'll never forget, I was a young guy, and I went to see a thing called Rambo,
01:20and it had just come out.
01:21I didn't know anything about it.
01:22But I got, I was in a movie theater, like we used to go to movie theaters a lot.
01:26And I said, this movie is phenomenal.
01:30What the heck?
01:31And that turned out to be a monster.
01:33Rocky is Rocky.
01:34I mean, the way that happened, you know, Sly had no money, nothing.
01:40And he went around, and everybody wants to do a boxing movie.
01:43It's the most, you know, probably more than any other type of character, boxing.
01:47Boxing, always boxing.
01:48It's so great.
01:49And there's rarely been anything like this one.
01:56John Voight did a great one, as you know.
01:58Champ, great.
02:00I think that was right there, too.
02:03John Voight's a phenomenal person, phenomenal actor.
02:07But Sly came in, and he had no money.
02:10He wrote a script, along with thousands of other people writing scripts on a boxer.
02:15And for some reason, a studio picked up this, and liked it.
02:22And Sly had, he's in an old car that he came in from Brooklyn, or someplace in New York,
02:29but I think Brooklyn.
02:31It barely made it to California.
02:33He was sleeping in the car.
02:34I mean, he had nothing.
02:36And he wanted control over who the actor was going to be, because he said it can't be successful
02:43if you're going to pick a movie actor with a bad build, okay?
02:46A nice face, but a bad body.
02:49And he said, I can't have these guys, because he's a tough cookie.
02:52And he knew exactly what it took.
02:54He knew what a boxer's body was.
02:58So they brought him one, and I won't tell you who it was, but it was a big name.
03:03But the chest wasn't exactly what you need.
03:07One shot, and your heart would pop out.
03:10That wasn't too good.
03:11But then he did another one.
03:13He was fat, sloppy, but had a good face.
03:17Then he did another one, and another one, and another one.
03:21And he turned it down.
03:22He wouldn't take $1 million.
03:24He wouldn't do it.
03:26And it turned out that when they saw him, they said, you know, you'd be actually pretty
03:30good for this role.
03:32And he had never done this before, anything like it.
03:35But think of it.
03:36He turned down $1 million.
03:38He had nothing.
03:39He refused to let somebody else play.
03:42He didn't want to play it.
03:42He wasn't originally.
03:43He did it as a writer.
03:45But he ended up playing it because he couldn't find anybody else that fit the role.
03:49And who knew what would have happened?
03:54He's become a legend of the silver screen.
03:57A true legend.
03:58And he's a great guy.
04:00He's a little bit tough, a little bit different, I will tell you.
04:02He's a little tough guy.
04:03But he's a phenomenal person with a phenomenal wife and family, incredible wife, incredible
04:10family.
04:11His films are grossing more than $7.5 billion, which is either a record or very close to it.
04:18I can't imagine anybody doing more.
04:20If you add up Rambo and Rocky and these others, I can't imagine anybody doing much more.
04:25$7.5 billion worldwide over the course of six decades.
04:30And Sly is a pillar of the really American pop culture and a Hollywood superstar, like
04:39few others.
04:40And one of the biggest names on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
04:45In fact, the only one that's a bigger name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, they say, is
04:48a guy named Donald Trump.
04:51I'm on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, too, if you can believe that one.
04:55But he's amazing.
04:57He's really amazing.
04:58And he's actually a great actor.
05:00Fourth.
