03:20said you're too slow but uh that was when I was 11 then I had to trade just go all right maybe a comedian
03:27but um um I I love my family very much and uh and and they made it a point the whole family was always
03:34about our family my parents always made it me feel very uh like there was nothing else but me and my
03:40brother and two sisters so I Adam Richard Sandler born on September 9th 1966 into a Jewish family
03:51raised in Manchester New Hampshire he quickly earned the reputation as class clown at his high school
03:56his brother Scott noticed his talent and encouraged him to perform stand-up at a comedy club in Boston
04:07motivated to pursue a career in comedy he attended the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New
04:12York City after high school
04:17Sandler continued to chase his dreams of show business and attended Tisch School of the Arts
04:22graduating in 1988 with a degree in acting
04:26Adam Sandler's first television appearance was in the Cosby Show in the late 1980s where he played
04:32the role of a friend of the Huxtaple family hey Smitty come here man just a second fellas will be right with you
04:40how about I uh pick you up around seven o'clock great I'll be waiting
04:44gents when you see this you are gonna want to kiss me too but don't guess how we're getting to the
04:54prom our very own limousine oh man how'd you score that
05:04throughout this time he continued to perform stand-up comedy shows although he made his first film debut in
05:101989 in the film going overboard his stand-up comedy was leading him into the spotlight this caught the
05:17attention of comedian Dennis Miller who recommended him to the Saturday Night Live team
05:24this led to his employment as a writer for Saturday Night Live in 1990
05:29soon after he started making occasional appearances on the show and became a permanent cast member
05:35Sandler was part of the show for five years gaining a large amount of popularity for his juvenile antics
05:46he performed several songs on the show including the Thanksgiving song and the Hanukkah song which
05:51were loved by audiences Elvis fans can't be wrong turkey turkey turkey I eat the turkey and I take a nap
06:03thanksgiving is a special night jimmy walker used to say dynamite that's right
06:16turkey with the gravy and the cranberry can't believe the meds traded that was strawberry turkey for you
06:32it was during the 1990s that Adam Sandler began receiving real recognition for his films he starred in
06:39the movie coneheads with friends chris farley and david spade in 1993 and in airheads with steve buscemi and
06:46brendan frazier in 1994. his successful string of films continued into the late 1990s and he received
06:57much acclaim for his role as an unsuccessful ice hockey player who discovers a passion for golf in the comedy
07:03film happy gilmore in 1996. well it was an idea that Adam Sandler who's the star had with his uh partner
07:13jim hurley and uh they just uh they they're both uh hockey fans they're both golf fans and it would be cool
07:21to meld the two together the blue power fighting mentality of hockey with the uh upper crust of the state
07:30vision golf and sort of bring back to golf punching him it's cheering he followed it up with other
07:41comedic roles such as his role in the wedding singer and the water boy his first hit film in 1998.
07:48i want you to visualize all those people that have been mean to you and then i want you to attack i
07:53want you to visualize and then attack can you handle that i tried i just want to try
08:06what's the matter with you boy are you too stupid to do what your coach tells you
08:10no no what
08:23in 1999 sandler starred in big daddy which was his highest grossing film up until 2015.
08:31just played the part the way i thought i should play it it's not like i'm changing my whole career
08:35i'm just just this one particular movie i acted this different way now what now you wear a diaper
08:45sunny koufax is finding out you can have a night light night light once you adopt a kid
08:53there you go all right you better give that kid back i tried to give him back you've got to keep him
08:58go back to sleep i wet my bed all right nice and dry no more wetness
09:10the fun-loving comedy about a man pulling his life together for the sake of a child
09:15was popular with audiences but received mixed reviews the beginning of sandler's battle with the critics
09:21um we read a script that was that was a good movie but i didn't think i'd be too good at it
09:26and then um we talked to the president of the company amy pascal and she said that me and my
09:32buddy could rewrite it and tailor it more for uh what i think i think i could do and we just did we
09:38did it like that they laid down a nice script up top and then we we kind of did our own comedy with it
09:47this role won sandler various awards including a blockbuster entertainment award for best actor
09:53and people's choice award for favorite comedy motion picture
09:59this helped establish his iconic comedic character role which has followed him throughout his career
10:04and attracted both positive and negative views from film analysts
10:10adam sandler also met his now wife jackie on the set of big daddy and she had a small role
10:15playing a waitress before the film's release the pair were already dating
10:20their relationship continued from strength to strength and the pair eventually tied the knot
10:26in 2003. 1999 also saw adam sandler set up his own production company happy madison productions off of
10:36the success of his previous roles happy madison productions is based in the judy garland building
10:43on the sony studios lot culver city it also has company offices run by sandler's brother scott
10:50in their hometown of manchester new hampshire
10:56deuce bigelow male gigolo was the first film produced by the company which was written by
11:01sandler's fellow co-worker at saturday night live rob schneider since then happy madison productions has
11:08produced all of sandler's films among others he is involved with all aspects of the production
11:15including rewriting some scripts to suit his favorite comedy flair adam sandler also includes
11:21his family in his productions often making short appearances you know i gotta do i do whatever the
11:26hell i want you're adam sandler you are adam sandler who can say no to me no one can say no to you
11:31just my mama just your mama and she does it a lot
11:50although his earliest films didn't receive favorable critical attention in 2002 his starring role in punch
11:57drunk love was a hit with audiences and received positive reviews granting him a golden globe nomination
12:06in 2004 sandler starred alongside drew barrymore for the much-loved romantic comedy 50 first dates
12:14the film was originally written as a drama but once sandler was on board he rewrote the script
12:20into a comedy adding in jokes and light-hearted moments to the storyline
12:27despite some negative articles the film received mostly positive reviews
12:33the early 2000s saw sandler appear in a variety of films all receiving mixed reviews from critics
12:41many critics knock him for producing essentially the same film
12:45just with slightly different characters and plot lines
12:49his style of jokes has been called childish and many brand him as lazy knowing what hook's audience is
12:55in and being unwilling to change his style of films what research did you do for your role
13:02this is zero nothing the sand man would just wake up show up on the set they'd throw these tight
13:07pants on me i'd stumble out there drunk throw a ball and then they put me back in my trailer
13:14however harsh the critics may be sailor's confidence is not knocked by this
13:20does it matter what the critics say do you care about that uh you know it doesn't matter that much
13:26to me i know what they're gonna say every movie they're gonna say they don't like it so it's it's
13:30where we'll be okay i i i believe in my stuff that that's uh important to me and uh my my friends and
13:38uh people i make the movies for that's that's i like them that's the good news his family life also
13:46evolved in this time with sandler and his wife jackie welcoming a daughter sadie in 2006.
13:52in 2008 adam sandler produced and starred in you don't mess with the zohan a comedy about
14:01a soldier who fakes his own death to pursue his dreams of becoming a hairstylist in new york city
14:07my guy is a soldier he's an israeli soldier he's been fighting for many years he has
14:13borderline superpowers as a uh as a soldier and he uh he's just kind of tired of fighting and wants
14:20peace in his life and has a secret dream of wanting to cut hair and he's embarrassed to tell
14:27anybody that so anyways they won't let him out of the army because they need him too much and he
14:32he uh decides to fake his own death and he goes over to america and starts cutting hair and he wants
14:40to work with paul mitchell but he can't get a job there so he starts working at a crappy salon and the
14:46salon is owned by a palestinian girl and it's kind of a west side story thing they they fall for each
14:53other but they uh they know they they can't be together and well i did think that uh it was out
14:58there but i also kind of laughed i went why you'd be you'd be funny doing that and adam had this idea
15:03about eight years ago and i kept quietly cheerleading this like you know what you got to do next you know
15:09israeli hairdresser so this is all your fault basically maybe but then when it came time time to
15:13really do it and you know and they wanted me to play the palestinian cab driver i was like
15:19you know i i i had to work at this one i didn't really relax for a while because it it's not just
15:25getting the accent and speaking you know um aramaic i mean i had to learn uh you know i mean i had to
15:32then make up and everything and then just be comfortable in it you know so it was it did take
15:38some with i honestly took some work this time it was fun but like you know adam got to you know go
15:43on set like that for me it was like four hours he'd come visit me two hours into makeup and i go okay
15:47see in two hours i did have an israeli uh a guy who used to cut my hair a really nice guy named yuki
15:56and uh he used to talk i used to ask him questions about the israeli army and while he was discussing
16:02the israeli army and machine guns and uh all this stuff he'd also be combing my hair and fluffing it
16:09up and stuff so i i just thought it was funny to see a guy talk about macho things and have to you
16:14know put conditioner on my head sandler wrote the script in 2000 but after the events of 9-11
16:22the production team decided to wait a while before returning to the project
16:26because you do handle incredibly sensitive issues in this film yes it came to that you know i i i didn't
16:32think that all the way through i called my friends up and said you know what do you think of an israeli
16:37commando guy becoming a hair stylist and we all laughed and then we were right in the movie we're
16:40like oh man we got to talk about a lot of heavy stuff but we tried to make it as funny as possible
16:47and uh also the message at the end of the movies you know pretty obvious thing would be nice if we
16:53got along but uh um so we we knew eventually we were getting to a nice message we just got it was it
17:00was ugly to get there some people would say it's um not such a good idea to handle such sensitive
17:06issues in a comedy format presumably you disagree i guess so maybe if i if i wasn't in it i'd watch it
17:15and go hey i hate these guys but because i'm in it i'm gonna have to stick up for it did you worry
17:20about offending people um yeah yeah i did but uh i just thought it was silly and uh it's silly it's
17:30approached in a silly way and yeah there's very serious people who lost family to uh these situations
17:38there's no way they're ever gonna laugh at it uh yeah it's on my it's it was on my mind but i just
17:43wanted wanted to make light of a situation maybe that that can uh yeah a way to at least talk about
17:51it you don't mess with the zohan got a pretty weak critical reception with reviews noting it featured
17:58a lot of laughs but eventually the premise wears thin to be people being positive to you about it um
18:06yeah but that's usually how it goes people walk up to me they're not gonna jump right on
18:11and why they can't stand my movies usually they're not polite but uh i think it's getting you know
18:17it's it's if anyone has a problem with it it's it that wasn't the intention of it um the intention
18:24was to make you laugh and also you know just just i don't know see uh these israelis and palestinians
18:32as people and not just just saying the bad guys bad guys people fighting and blah blah blah
18:42the film grossed 38 million dollars on its opening weekend and time magazine and the
18:47chicago sun times gave the film three out of four stars
18:532008 also saw the release of bedtime stories starring adam sandler in his first real appearance
19:00in a family-oriented film his daughter sadie made her first on-screen debut in this film
19:05at the tender age of two he gets to know his nephew and he is a lot better the stories help him just
19:13you know become a child again i think he's a little bitter because his dreams aren't coming true and then
19:19it brings back the old stories that his dad used to tell him and that kind of thing
19:23adam sandler's company happy madison productions teamed up with gun films and walt disney to produce the
19:29film it's a good time i like kids they're usually pretty fun to hang with um they make me feel
19:35smarter uh i liked uh russell brandon was a good guy to hang with carrie russell a 10 great girl
19:43nothing wrong with this movie despite receiving generally negative reviews from critics it was a
19:49box office success after earning 212.9 million dollars against its 80 million dollar budget
19:56yeah i think it's a nice little escape it's a cool it's a cool movie it's nice for
20:02families and there's enough jokes in there to make people laugh and i i like it a lot
20:08adam and jackie sandler also welcomed their second child sunny in 2008 i love you too you
20:16guys are my buddies i love you more than anything in the world all right so uh and i just want to say
20:21i want my daddy okay yeah yeah yeah all right you did good in 2010 adam sandler along with his
20:30close friends kevin james david spade chris rock and rob schneider all starred in the family comedy
20:37grown-ups now you you work with a cool group of friends and people work with something they're not
20:41like powerful for you is it to work with these people and regularly they're the only people who
20:45actually like me that's why i stick around with them and and and i and i think they feel the same
20:49about me i i not too many people like any of us that's not true no no it's not we do okay
20:58his daughter sadie also appeared in this film making it apparent that sandler wanted his children
21:03to accompany him on set are there other children as well or is it just i was the only one who was
21:08uh psychotic and have to put my kids these guys would say why would i do that i said why would you put
21:14them in he goes because they're talented the film's plot tells a story of five lifelong friends who won
21:22their high school basketball championship in 1978 they reunite three decades later for a fourth of july
21:28weekend after learning about the sudden death of their basketball coach i just wanted to make a movie
21:34about old friends and i knew that we all were pretty darn tight in real life that it made sense so it was
21:40about just catching up and and seeing that life doesn't change that much
21:47despite receiving generally unfavorable reviews from critics it grossed 271 million dollars and led
21:54to a sequel grown-ups 2 in 2013. after a mass amount of negative reviews linked with his films sandler
22:03began becoming choosy about the press interviews he did and which reporters he would speak to leaving
22:08some worried he would be disengaged with his fans at the beginning of 2011 adam sandler was honored
22:16with a hollywood star on the walk of fame for his career in which his films had grossed more than
22:22three billion dollars worldwide at that time on february 1st 2011 the star was unveiled outside of the w hotel
22:32sandler sandler sandler was shocked but honored to receive the star with his close friends kevin james

30:24of jack and his annoying twin sister jill jack and jill is considered by some critics to be the
30:31worst film made by adam sandler however once again audiences turned out to see the movie in theaters
30:37earning it 149 million dollars against its 79 million dollar budget
30:512012 saw adam sandler spend some time off screen when he voiced a character for the animated film hotel
30:57transylvania sandler also got his youngest daughter sonny a voiceover role in the film
31:07now you know you always sort of have the same cast of characters whether it's in your films now

31:32genji for about a year and a half or two was uh took a lot of our time but just knowing that my kids
31:39were going to have a good time watching that's all that was exciting to me now you and adam are no
31:44stranger to working together what is it about the partnership that continues to make you guys want to
31:49collaborate whether it's on film or these animated projects he makes me laugh you know i mean we just
31:53laugh we laugh together all the time we have a great relationship uh you know we just click our
31:59families get together we have the same sensibility and i'm always honored to to do stuff with him and
32:05want to work with him so you know when he thinks of me to put me in any of his movies i'm i'm thrilled
32:11and it's it's great so you know you're going to feel comfortable it's like you know seeing your family
32:15again and working with your family so you can you can mess up you can have fun you can try stuff you know
32:20the children's movie was popular enough to earn two more sequels in 2015 and 2018 in which sandler
32:28reprised his role as count dracula this sequel to sandler's own film grown-ups premiered in 2013
32:37with critics calling it unnecessary however at this point in his career
32:42sandler was used to the negative backlash towards his films and was not phased by the reports
32:50sandler's 2014 film blended saw his third collaboration with actress drew barrymore
33:00the romantic comedy revolves around sandler and barrymore finding themselves together at a holiday
33:05resort after an unsuccessful blind date where the attraction between them grows and their kids
33:11benefit from the blooming relationship hello everybody this is pretty cool mom
33:20what the what is he doing here is this a sick dream why i have a new mommy
33:25isn't this place fantastic so romantic we are not dating my mom is freaking hot ew no not hot that's just
33:34wrong wrong this is so pretty wow we're out of gas
33:44although the film received mainly negative reviews the positive support from fans earned the movie
33:49mixed ratings across platforms and made it a box office success
33:57based on the amount of films happy madison productions has produced adam sandler was
34:02offered to deal with netflix in 2014 to write and produce films for the streaming platform
34:07and i want to know why did you decide to have this close relationship with with netflix and how is
34:16working with them they've been great to me and they've been uh just uh allowed me to be uh free creatively
34:27and it was just really close with uh ted sarandos and the and the whole team it's an exciting place to be
34:37right now for me they just you uh the enthusiasm is is gigantic his first netflix release came in 2015
34:49the western comedy the ridiculous six though the movie was panned by the critics netflix said that the
34:55movie had received an impressive number of views within the first 30 days of its release
35:01sandler went on to produce five more movies for the streaming giant such as the do-over and sandy wexler
35:09his film the mayor with stories released in 2017 received positive reviews we both had and ben and and
35:18elizabeth marvel and everybody in the movie has amazing dialogue and noah bomback he
35:26his other movies are insane i love them and then he sent the this script and i think it was unanimous
35:33except for this guy we had to win him over we were we were all pretty blown away with just the story
35:39and the words from watching what ben and noah have done i was excited no matter what but uh because i
35:45love those movies but the the the fact that he wrote this script and what it what all our characters
35:52did and what what the story was and that that was just that wasn't why why i wanted to work with them
35:58the fact that it ended up being this movie was uh uh quite a bonus how how great i thought that script
36:04was and and getting to see noah shoot and being a part of it you know they're just such terrific actors and
36:13and and and and i i think in some ways by because they both they gave over so so strongly to both
36:20their characters it it it creates a kind of intimacy that that that you feel when you watch the movie i
36:27think it also doesn't hurt that they've known each other a long time and never really worked together
36:32they did a small thing in happy gilmore but they that this is their first sort of you know movie where
36:38they're really both in it for the whole thing and i think there was something exciting for them too
36:43and and i they i think they they saw it as a challenge that they were they they wanted to kind
36:49of do great work i would say that the the dads i'm your character i'm whooping you you are you are
36:57for sure you're definitely getting in the way you're trying to ruin what i am well i'm just trying
37:01i mean i do feel it's interesting both characters have their own you know things that they need to
37:11i don't know they have to grow they both have to grow right and uh you are you have dedicated yourself
37:17to your daughter but in a way they're they're things that you've sub yeah what is it sub and it's
37:23degated or something yeah yeah so uh i feel like yeah i mean you can make money it doesn't make you a
37:29success um oh no you know uh you have to uh i think you know being content in your life or feeling
37:37good about yourself as a person does anybody really feel it i gotta get so deep loved it i mean me and
37:43ben uh i know each other forever and um it's been a very long time since we worked together this was
37:49great to see him every day and do do hard work with him and we both love the script so much we
37:54didn't want to let noah down but you know we both feel the same about being with hoffman it's a uh
38:00it's an honor and it's something as a kid you would you would not believe that one day you'd be
38:04making movies with with that guy who is is one of the best if not the best i mean dustin i'd walk over
38:13broken glass to work with any time because we're sort of joined at their hip and this is our third time
38:17so that was heaven um adam and ben were a joy to work with because they were slightly out of their
38:23comfort zones so they were doing serious roles and i was an outsider and playing an outsider the
38:31comedy drama was released in select theaters and on netflix in october of that year and follows a
38:36group of dysfunctional siblings trying to live in the shadow of their father well the interesting thing
38:43i think is that that we all love each other very much and we can't stand being with each other yes
38:51yes yes and that's real life yes it's what you do is what uh my sister in the movie says she uh it's
38:57something like dad's so mean and blah blah blah and you know he never treats you right why are you
39:03here right now she's like it's what you do it's what you do as a kid what you do as a parent even when
39:08there's uh there's something that's not clicking it's just you're always trying to make it work
39:14to worry about are you harold myerwitz's son matthew yes uh mrs danny also
39:21harold myerwitz's son i didn't realize he had two sons and a daughter
39:27dad you'll be okay here it'll be nice to spend time with dad you know i didn't get a lot of time
39:32with him growing up
39:35this film has a real all-star cast it's not just you two it's emma thompson it's ben stiller yes that
39:47must have been just so much fun to film right yes but we would have preferred if it was just us
39:53they just kept showing up and i and i was like just put a camera on them and let them do their
39:58thing you know yeah they hadn't worked in a long time yeah it was just just luck that this guy wrote
40:06an amazing movie and handed it to me and said would you like to be in it that was the best part of it
40:12i i i read it and knew it was a great movie and it was um just didn't want to let noah down and and
40:21worked hard and that's it you know we we as we were saying we we all prepared a lot and talked
40:27a lot but and you know as a director you you know you you know in a lot in many ways you see
40:36you know you you're part of your job is to you know see the actor and see what they're doing and
40:40help guide them and but with with the best actors you know there's this this other thing going on that
40:47is out of your control in the best possible way because they're they're drawing something from inside
40:54them that's a mystery and it might even be a mystery to them in some way too but they're you
40:58know but adam connected to something very deeply in this guy um you know it's something we haven't
41:05even talked about that much but i would marvel uh you know throughout the shoot at at just how
41:13true and unacted it seemed it just it was a it was a it was behavior and it was and it was deep and
41:21that was you know you know it was very moving to me when i when we started the film uh and i was uh
41:31you know doing stuff with adam uh and also there were things he was doing with other people but i
41:38happened to be on the set and i i observed it uh noah uses the word deep and i think what that means
41:49is i don't this is my personal feeling i don't think actors should play parts unless they're in it
41:59otherwise it looks like they're performing a part oh well so and so is an asshole but i'm not an
42:06asshole so i'll just perform an asshole i'll just get a few people in my head that i know real people
42:12that are assholes and i'll just do that i think we have the asshole in us all of us and uh we have
42:22and it's up to us to enlarge on that and i thought what adam was doing because i couldn't put it into
42:29words i agree with noah that it was there was something about him uh that i had not seen before and i
42:36know him and i'd done another another film with him and i went home and i said to my wife i said i think adam
42:44has hit a part of himself in which he would be the in he would be the person
42:55if that he that didn't make it and that's you know that's as close as you can get to the bone and i
43:04thought that's what adam was doing that's uh to hit that because because we can we all can you know
43:14adam sandler was especially singled out for praise by critics which was a breath of fresh air for the
43:19actor considering his past negative reviews the film was shown at the can film festival but sparked
43:26controversy as it was a film made for online streaming and not the big screen but it caused a
43:32bit of controversy in can right the netflix logo was booed in one of the screenings were you surprised
43:37by that but it wasn't our film it was it took a minute to get used to there it got some some noise
43:44the first night and then the movie was such a great movie people relaxed and then ours came up and they
43:49were a little calmer with it and we were glad they they calmed down we had a five minute standing ovation
43:55yes it is a great film did you hear that yes i did hear about the standing ovation afterwards yes
44:01say six minutes then it sounds a little it was a six and a half minute standing ovation felt good
44:06standing that long it was good for the caps
44:12in 2019 adam sandler produced uncut gems and murder mystery for streaming giant netflix
44:19you know how that makes me feel never i don't know who said that i told you about how things
44:29were gonna go you like the way things are going now that's my family get the kids out of the house
44:40you having a good time yes
44:42and this was this was this was like a 10-year project so but the impetus originally the original
44:50impetus was was uh uh inspired by our dad's time working in the diamond district and and uh you
44:55know the stories that he would tell were always you'd always kind of like be on the edge of your
44:59seat listening to him like well what did you do next what did you do then what do you mean they they
45:03poked your tire what you knew they were following you so you didn't pull over he's like i couldn't
45:06pull over they were gonna kill me so it's like the stories were were you know kept you on the edge but
45:11they were also comedic and ridiculous like they did that so so and then you know then you start
45:17doing the research in the diamond district and there's this energy there in the diamond district
45:21where it's just the people have gamble on top of gamble on top of gamble and there's seven different
45:24things happening at once and you're trying to pay attention to all but it's just it's alive you
45:28know what i mean and the the kind of myth of this howard character you know was something that like
45:34it's kind of incredible to see him exist now in this kind of new universe so but so i do think that
45:39but i do but we knew uh that we wanted to do a thriller we knew that it was a it was going to
45:45be a thriller and we and i like the idea of a form following function so if you're going to tell a
45:51thriller it better be thrilling and how much more thrilling could we have made this movie being uh
45:57howard ratner was a good feeling it was fun going through what he went through and
46:01diving in with him and trying to be that guy and i loved it howard sandler's such a unique person uh and
46:09it's great when you when you meet a star and uh they are unique you know what i mean and uh he's
46:15unique because he's so himself you know what i mean and he's so grounded uh and he's such a good person
46:23uh but he's also again nuts and in the greatest way possible you know what i mean he's he's uh you
46:30know his humor is amazingly strange and i loved it we loved it forever forever uh since we were little
46:37kids that was the first thing we learned from him was through his humor and then of course the movies
46:41are just these iconic things uh but you know i think that uh i think that it getting getting to
46:48see getting to know him on a personal level and see the work that he put into this like there's you
46:53know there's there's people who prepare for roles and there's people who just enter the roles
46:58and he did both at the same time and that that was that was amazing to see and i'm and i'm still
47:04i'm you know in the edit i would sit there and just watch the the close-ups and see all those little
47:08micro decisions and now to just i i watched the movie and i he's just howard you know what i mean he's
47:14not adam sandler he's just howard he said something where he's like because the way we would shoot the
47:18film he didn't know when his close-up was so he would just be on that level the whole time you know yes but
47:25even the wives you know when he wasn't on camera yeah yeah he didn't know what he was like what
47:31we shoot now it's like don't worry about it murder mystery saw sandler reunite with jennifer aniston
47:37for a comedy drama which netflix stated was their most watched film of 2019 on their u.s platform
47:43and had the biggest opening weekend for a film on their platform
47:48twisted my arm barely not even a little bit it's just how do you say no to that he says please and you
47:55say yes you're gonna love the mystery i have to pay homage to the mystery it works and it's it's
48:00a fun watch uh you're gonna love the locations because it's very picturesque and beautiful
48:06uh you're gonna love the adventure you're gonna love the idea of going to a distant
48:12place and maybe getting wrapped up in something crazy the film revolves around sandler and aniston
48:18a married couple that get caught up in a murder mystery on a billionaire's yacht
48:23my name is inspector laurent delacroix i will now summon you for questioning
48:29why is that smoke ring so good how did he do that did you notice anything out of the ordinary
48:35yeah but we didn't do this someone's trying to frame us we do things together so can we please
48:42just figure this out it's just like death in the library what happens in death in a library
48:47they died that's why it's called death in the library
48:52you know we were from you know brooklyn and kind of fish out of water and there were all sort of
48:58upper-crusted you know wealthy people who all had a motive as to you know into what who offing the
49:05the man who was off so it kind of just was part of the story it was all jen saying we have to do
49:11something together i can't be apart this long you're an amazing human i feel so uh sick to my stomach
49:19when you're not near me so i said let me just make a movie with you so you can relax on a personal level
49:24it was hard to believe that i was directing adam sandler after watching so many adam sandler movies
49:31before i was a professional director so in that respect i had to pinch myself pretty much every day
49:39but sandler's so down to earth that he kind of just felt like we had been friends for
49:44a long time you know there was a couple times where i like found myself quoting his movies on set
49:51not because he was there but just because like it's in my dna as a person and he would hear me
49:57and i was like is it okay to can i do that and he's like yeah it's all and he likes it so he's just
50:03a real real person that was awesome to work with my two daughters always pop in my movies my wife's
50:10she's funny in my and in the movie she's a flight attendant we had a nice scene a couple of scenes
50:14together was great the film received average reviews meaning sandler didn't face much negative
50:22backlash adam sandler also created a comedy special sarcastically titled 100 fresh for netflix this was
50:31to preempt the negative reviews however it was favored by critics and highly recommended
50:39due to the popularity of the six films happy madison productions had made for netflix
50:43adam sandler signed a further deal with the streaming platform in january 2020 confirming
50:49he would produce a further four films for the company you signed a multi-movie deal with netflix
50:54you must think it's the future of cinema that and the fact that they like me so much feels nice
50:59it's a combination i i think they've been great to me and they also say i'm wonderful and that feels
51:04nice despite the critical backlash he has faced throughout his career so far adam sandler has always had a
51:11solid fan base behind him supporting all his productions and pushing his career further
51:17obviously your film's obviously proving hugely popular still on netflix does it matter what the
51:22critics say do you care about that uh you know it doesn't matter that much to me i know what they're
51:28gonna say every movie they're gonna say they don't like it so it's it's we're we'll be okay i i i believe
51:34in my stuff that that's uh important to me and uh my my friends and uh people i make the movies for
51:42that's that's i like them that's the good news i think in the past critics have been too harsh on
51:47those films i don't care about critics you know what john cleese said the same said the best thing to
51:51me since you're from the uk john cleese my real hero the funniest big man who ever lived funniest guy
51:58i mean and a great writer but um please said the best thing he said about critics he said critics
52:05don't even ignore them i'll take that to my grave thank you no who cares i want i'll take criticism
52:13from somebody who does the same thing we're doing trying to write produce direct and make movies and
52:17star movies and deal with all this let's see them do it and then i'll listen to what they have to say
52:22working with adam was definitely probably one of the best experiences i've ever had in my career
52:28and i got to learn so much from him and mostly got working side by side with him watching him
52:33be like the director and the actor and pull it all together so it was a great learning experience too
52:48most of his fans fell in love with the actor from his early career starring in happy gilmore and the
52:53water boy even those who weren't born at the time of the release notably mentioned these titles proving
53:00his films are now considered comedy classics sandler's filmography serves as a sort of comfort food for
53:15fans most explaining that his films are really easy to watch and the simplicity inspires laughs
53:20for his fans adam sandler has a relatable appeal and i'll always be me nobility which keeps his audiences coming back for more
53:32although critics might not like the similarities in the characters he plays
53:36his viewers seem to love the similarities in each character he plays in every different film he stars in
53:41making movies for netflix making movies for netflix makes his productions more accessible to a wider audience and will
53:51definitely keep him popular
54:01so
54:10despite a career filled with fluctuating reviews from critics and films that didn't quite meet their box office budgets
54:16adam sandler has managed to survive the storm and come out on top proving his title as a fan favorite is here to stay
54:23what's the best part about being successful into a famous is there oh i don't know i don't know i don't
54:30think about that i don't i'm just i just happy to be working
54:41everyone knows of at least one happy madison film and the actor is a household name who keeps bringing laughs
54:47to our living rooms
54:56there's no room for you to be nervous because he's just you know making jokes or you know trying to think of
55:03other ways to make the scene work and i feel like we've got a lot in common he's nicer than me
55:11so just we have a yeah we have a thing that you know i think we share some sort of mutual sort of
55:16subset of loving of our parents too yes
55:26adam sandler is at the height of his career and with the new netflix deal and filmography
55:32that just keeps growing audiences are awaiting the arrival of his next lovable character
55:46so
