Ali Hussain Rizvi – the name might not be as famous as some of Pakistan’s legendary spinners, but his cricketing journey is fascinating in its own right 🏏. Born on 6 January 1974 in Karachi, Rizvi was a talented right-arm leg-break bowler and right-handed batsman who made his Test debut against South Africa in 1997.

In his only Test match, Rizvi bowled 18.3 overs (111 deliveries) on a dead pitch and picked up two prized wickets – Shaun Pollock and Pat Symcox 🎯. With senior spinners Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq dominating the bowling duties, Rizvi was used sparingly, making it hard for him to fully showcase his talent on the international stage.

While his Pakistan career ended after that single Test, Rizvi shone in domestic cricket ✨. In 54 First-Class matches, he claimed 171 wickets at a remarkable bowling average of 26.44, with 11 five-wicket hauls and 2 ten-wicket match performances. His best innings figures – 6/57 – reflect his ability to run through batting line-ups. With the bat, he scored 477 runs, and he also proved to be a reliable fielder with 36 catches.

In List A cricket, Rizvi played 23 matches, taking 30 wickets at an average of 24.96 with a best performance of 4/19. Though his batting contributions were modest, his consistent bowling economy and wicket-taking ability earned him respect in domestic circles.

Ali Hussain Rizvi’s story is a reminder that cricket history is full of talented players who, despite limited opportunities at the highest level, left a strong mark in domestic cricket and inspired many young bowlers 💚🇵🇰.

00:00Ali Hussain Rizvi born on 6th January 1974.
00:04He is a former Pakistani legspin baller who made a solitary test appearance in 1997.
00:09A right-time legspin baller, Rizvi claimed two wickets in his only outing at the highest
00:14level, dismissing Sean Pollock and Pat Simcox on an unresponsive lifeless pitch.
00:20However, with senior spinners Mushtaq Ahmed and Saklan Mushtaq spearheading the attack,
00:25Rizvi's role was largely reduced to that of a stock baller.
00:28He was handed just 18.3 overs in contrast to Mushtaq Ahmed 38 overs and Saklan Mushtaq
00:3532 overs, limiting his chance to truly showcase his abilities.
00:39As a result, his potential remained largely untapped on the international stage.
00:58Simcox is not happy.
01:01Piaf Francis reckoning there that the ball took the outside edge, touched the keeper's
01:07gloves on its way to the first slip.
01:09South Africa now lose their ninth wicket, that of Simcox.
01:13Well, it certainly turned quite a lot, did this delivery.
01:20Well, I thought he was out, I don't know why Pat Simcox didn't think it was out and was
01:28stood.
01:29Well, the umpire and I agree, 397 for nine.
01:36Well, it's in the air.
01:37Is that going to be caught at long off?
01:39It's a chance.
01:40Yes, it's been held and Pollock is out, caught down there on the wide long off boundary by
01:48Ali Nakfi.
01:49He's out for 82.
01:50He's out for 82, 18 runs short of his 100 and South Africa are all out for 402.
01:59And with that wicket, the players will come in to tee.
02:04So, a total of 402 really has made this match, as we were saying, safe for South Africa.
02:11But Pakistan will certainly want to get their answer back to that score.

03:38His tactical record highlights as a steady, reliable leg spinner, whose limited international

03:49stint at the highest level.
