00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most unsettling videos
00:12ever posted to YouTube.
00:19Number 30. Illusion of Bias. A haunting moral told in a genuinely unnerving way.
00:25Who could ask for anything more?
00:30Illusion of Bias follows the fictional story of a young girl who loses the ability to see her face
00:37following an emergency brain surgery. She dreams of being able to see herself,
00:42and her subconscious seemingly listens.
00:49Through it all, the viewers are treated to unsettling moments like her featureless head
00:53and the eruptive voice in her dream. The final blow comes when she peers into a mirror,
00:58and she and the audience are met with her disfigured face. The story ends with her being
01:02sick every night, alongside a warning to those watching to appreciate what they have,
01:07because the alternative may be far worse.
01:13Number 29. Everywhere at the End of Time. Though supernatural horrors are scary,
01:18some of the worst fears come from real life. There are few things that are more terrifying
01:23than the slow degradation of the mind, which is captured perfectly in Everywhere at the End of
01:28Time from English electronic musician James Leland Kirby, a.k.a. The Caretaker.
01:39The piece lasts over six hours, spanning the various stages of memory loss. It starts out deceptively
01:45happy, using ballroom music as a way of evoking feelings of a bygone era. As it progresses,
01:51it becomes more distorted and frightening.
02:01The final movement is the peak of existential horror, with the previous music nearly disappearing
02:06in favor of an unending ambient void. It's a gorgeous piece, but engage at your own risk,
02:11as you may walk away from it with newfound fears of the future.
02:19Number 28. Who is behind our face? Special effects and carefully chosen music can both
02:26help curate an unsettling vibe, but this is proof that you don't need either to do so.
02:30With just clay and paint, Olivier de Sagazan transformed himself from man into an unrecognizable
02:45beast. With just a couple of layers, the viewer is thrown into the uncanny valley at the sight of
02:50his now disfigured features. The music is non-existent, only the occasional sounds of him
03:06working. At one point, he begins to desperately change himself. The piece as a whole serves as a
03:12creepy yet powerful nod to our never-ending attempts at finding ourselves in a world that
03:16seems to demand constant change. Number 27. Paris Catacombs lost man footage. Getting lost is scary
03:27enough, but imagine the fear that comes with being hopelessly confused in a 150-mile underground
03:33cemetery. So basically, he's filming what he's seeing, very deep inside the catacombs. Many got
03:38to see it for themselves when footage from a 2000 episode of Scariest Places on Earth resurfaced
03:43online. It depicts a person wandering through the halls of the Paris Catacombs and observing bones
03:48before suddenly running away from an unseen danger. He's running faster and faster and faster and
03:54deeper and deeper into the catacombs. The clip ends with his camera falling to the ground,
03:58indicating that it was dropped or that he fell. Throughout it all, his actions are narrated in a
04:03tone that seems to match his panic, creating even more tension. Though there's speculation this video
04:08isn't as authentic as it appears to be, something that can't be faked are the chills it sends down
04:14viewers' spines. And all of a sudden...
04:17Number 26. If. If everywhere at the end of time didn't strike existential fear into you,
04:24then surely this will. Michael of Vsauce is no stranger to intense videos. He outdid himself with
04:30If, which focuses on figurative situations that are still planned for as though they're going to happen.
04:35To us, the universe is full of...if...but all things considered, we are pretty good at predicting
04:43the future and preparing for it. For example, he takes the audience through a simulation of a
04:49nuclear strike on the United States, including the never-before-broadcast emergency alert system.
04:54We interrupt our programming. This is a national emergency. The following message is transmitted
05:00at the request of the United States government. This is not a test.
05:04He takes us further down the rabbit hole as he explains the moon disaster speech,
05:08a statement written for President Nixon in the very likely case that the astronauts had to be
05:12abandoned and take their own lives. These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin,
05:18know that there is no hope for their recovery, but they also know that there is hope for mankind
05:23and their sacrifice. Though it isn't loaded with jump scares, it's a piece that will force you to
05:28recognize that nothing is guaranteed. Number 25, Kay Fee, car commercial. There's nothing quite like
05:35a classic. Unlike several other videos on this list, there's no greater story. It simply depicts a car
05:41driving down a country road before a zombie suddenly pops up from the corner of the screen
05:45and jump scares the viewer. Since being uploaded in 2006, it has startled countless people at least once.
05:53This isn't the only one of its kind, however. The company, Kay Fee, made several commercials in this
05:58screamer format, but none have taken off as much as this one. It's a relic of a bygone era of the
06:03internet, but it still hits as hard as it did when it was first posted almost 20 years ago.
06:16Number 24, my dead great-grandma's coffin in my own backyard. Just from the title alone,
06:22you know you're in for an unsettling time.
06:29My great-grandma's coffin in my own backyard, from YouTuber DJ Def Joey, was filmed in 2008,
06:36making the body of his deceased relative 45 years old at the time. She ended up in his possession
06:41following the closure of the cemetery she was originally buried in. That left her in his care,
06:46and at his whim to film. He then reveals her, giving the viewer a front-row seat to his macabre show.
06:52He then takes things up another notch by proving just how much he loves his great-grandmother.
06:56In an otherwise discomforting video, this manages to somehow be the most horrifying part,
07:01and the moment that's most likely to stick with you after watching.
07:05Number 23, grave robbing for morons. Some scary clips predate YouTube by several years.
07:11Grave robbing for morons is believed to have been filmed sometime in the late 1980s,
07:16which is corroborated by the VHS camcorder footage.
07:19Try and keep the realty then.
07:21It opens with a human skull being presented to the camera. It's a jarring start,
07:25and it only gets more twisted from there. He ropes the viewer into a lesson they'll never forget,
07:30teaching them how to remove bones from their resting place and how to tell the age of the
07:35body you're stealing from. Though some are quick to call it fake, others have pointed out that the
07:39remains shown are too detailed for that to be the case. With that in mind, the video suddenly goes
07:44from creepy to downright horrific. Number 22, 2 AM, The Smiling Man.
07:52As if walking home alone at night wasn't already terrifying enough,
07:552 AM, The Smiling Man is a masterclass in capturing tension.
08:02It opens with our main character walking home, when he suddenly comes across a man dancing towards him.
08:08He decides to cross, only to be followed. Just when you and the character are lulled into a false
08:13sense of security, The Smiling Man suddenly rushes the camera.
08:21The sound kicks into high gear, making the viewer feel just as terrified as the protagonist.
08:27The last thing either of you see before the video suddenly cuts is the antagonist's wide,
08:31unfeeling grin. The ambiguous ending makes it all the more scary,
08:35leaving you wondering what possibly happened afterwards.
08:38Number 21, Happy Anniversary. After accidentally crashing her car on February 9th, 2004,
08:47Maura Murray called for help. By the time the authorities arrived, she was already gone.
08:51Murray was last seen on surveillance video at an ATM in Haverhill.
08:55Years later in 2012, a video was uploaded on the 8th anniversary of her disappearance.
09:00This was no ordinary tribute, however. It depicted an older man in a dark room,
09:05laughing maniacally at the camera, leaving many viewers with the horrible feeling that he'd done
09:09something awful. The kicker? The user, 112Dirtbag, based his name both on the road she had disappeared
09:18from and the descriptor used by her stepfather to denote those who kidnapped her. There were so many
09:23coincidences that the police got involved, but they eventually found he didn't abduct her.
09:28He just wanted to pretend he did.
09:30Number 20, Pencil Face. Uploaded by Scad Shorts in 2008, Pencil Face is a popular video that has
09:37amassed nearly 2.5 million views. A bizarre but creative work, Pencil Face shows a young girl
09:43interacting with a giant pencil. Said pencil has a creepy face and allows the girl to conjure objects out
09:55of thin air. Let's just say it doesn't end too well for the pencil's poor victim. It's a
10:00very well-made video, especially when it comes to early YouTube.
10:13It's filmed well, the design of the pencil is incredibly eerie, and a disturbing musical motif
10:18repeats throughout the video, putting the viewer in a near-hypnotic trance. The mood it creates is one
10:25of extreme uncertainty.
10:27Number 19, The Sounds of Hell. Scour YouTube for a minute and you will find dozens of videos on the
10:33Siberian Sounds of Hell. These videos have received millions of views, all of which tell the same
10:38story. The legend goes that Soviet engineers drilled a nine-mile hole into the Siberian ground,
10:44and when they lowered a microphone into the hole, they captured the literal sounds of hell.
10:49Unfortunately, this story has proven to be fake, and the sounds of hell are just spliced together
10:59sound effects. Fake or not, the noises are still incredibly chilling, and we have to give major
11:05props to the talented editor who made it. They truly did capture the sounds of hell, or at least what we
11:17would imagine hell to sound like. Number 18, 11bx1371. There are cryptic YouTube videos, and then
11:25there's 11bx1371. Even its title defies sense. The video was originally uploaded in May 2015,
11:33before being re-uploaded under another channel in October.
11:36A person in an old Plague Doctor outfit stands inside an abandoned building and performs many
11:47puzzling actions, none of which can be properly deciphered. Harsh, distorted noises can also be
11:53heard throughout the video, which helps aid in its confounding tone. Viewers scoured the footage to
12:03decipher its meaning, with many even conducting frame-by-frame analysis. In 2016, creator Parker
12:10Wright gave an interview with the Daily Dot, and revealed that the video was made as a creepy art
12:14project. Maybe there's no greater meaning behind it, but it sure is scary. Number 17, Cooking Idol.
12:21We, um, we really don't know what's going on in this video, but we do not like it. It was uploaded
12:27back in September 2010 by a user named Nana825763, and has since amassed over 3 million views.
12:34It begins with a fantastic jump scare, as creepy whispering and demonic noises are followed by a
12:40doll's face slamming into the camera. What follows is a pure surreal nightmare, as the doll cooks,
12:52dances, and just kind of jiggles around. We don't know what's scarier, the bizarre visuals bathed in
12:59red, or the disturbing sound effects that are played throughout the video. But we do know that both
13:10combine to create a truly unforgettable YouTube experience. Number 16, Sad Satan. On June 25th,
13:182015, a user named Obscure Horror Corner uploaded gameplay of a PC title called Sad Satan. The user
13:25claimed to have found the game on the deep web, and it proved deeply upsetting for many.
13:36As the player walks down darkened corridors, audio of serial killers can be heard, and disturbing
13:42images continuously appear on screen, most of which reference horrific criminal acts. What makes this
13:48even scarier is the fact that we don't know much about it. Obscure Horror Corner disappeared after
13:53uploading the gameplay, and not much is known about Sad Satan.
14:04Some believe it was created by Obscure Horror Corner themselves. Others are not sure what to believe.
14:10It is an internet legend, and one that has never been solved.
14:14Number 15, Chasing Alien Through Aussie Woods. There are literally countless videos out there
14:20purporting to show alien encounters. This is one of the best. The user has uploaded a number of
14:26supposed alien sightings to his channel, but this is by far the most popular, generating nearly two
14:31and a half million views. He and his buddies panic after seeing an alien, and chase it through the
14:44woods, resulting in some good Blair Witch-style scares. Even though it's likely scripted, it's still a
14:49great bit of film making, and does a fantastic job in building tension.
14:54Yeah, right here, right here.
14:56We were here last time.
14:57I know, exactly, coming through here. I know where we're going.
15:00It just goes to show that you don't need a lot of money to create an unforgettable short film.
15:05Number 14, Idaram Singh's Pretty Woman.
15:08Idaram was a very popular YouTuber in the late 2000s, known for his eccentric videos and somewhat
15:14creepy appearance. In this famous one from January 2009, the wild-haired Idaram dances for the camera
15:20and lip-syncs to Roy Orbison's Oh Pretty Woman.
15:30The video alone is creepy enough, as it has an unsettling air of weirdness to it, but the context
15:36makes it even more disturbing. Idaram was a man named Edward Mascari, who served 18 months in prison
15:42in the late 80s for sexual battery. It was these YouTube videos that eventually got Mascari re-arrested,
15:48as he was prohibited from owning a computer and uploading content.
15:52Pretty woman, yeah, yeah, yeah. Pretty woman, lift my way.
15:59He was sentenced to five years in prison, and died in custody.
16:03Number 13, 14 Horror Stories Animated.
16:07If Halloween season rolls around and you have nothing new to watch, try giving this video a try.
16:11It was uploaded by YouTuber Llama Arts, and it sees them animating 14 unique scary stories.
16:18I looked up one last time before driving off.
16:21The blinds to the window I had peeked into had been shut,
16:23but I could see two of the blinds bent open.
16:27Somebody was at that window watching me.
16:29Running nearly one hour in length, the video is a wonderful bit of horror filmmaking.
16:34The stories are freaky, the narration is suitably haunting,
16:38and the accompanying animation visualizes the terror in a distinctive manner.
16:42The last thing I saw was my alarm clock flashing 1207,
16:46before she pushed her long, rotting nails through my chest,
16:49her other hand muffling my screams.
16:52The video proved incredibly popular, and as of 2023,
16:56it's been seen by nearly 22 million people.
16:58It speaks to the talent of Llama Arts, and the quality of the stories in question.
17:03Number 12, The Swedish Rhapsody.
17:06In January of 2011, YouTube channel The Conet Archive uploaded a video titled The Swedish Rhapsody.
17:12Despite its title, the audio was taken from a radio station broadcasting out of Poland.
17:17It consists of a repeating piece of music,
17:27and what sounds like a small girl's voice speaking in a cryptic and robotic manner.
17:31Just imagine tuning into this in the dead of night,
17:34not knowing what it was or where it was coming from.
17:36You may think the world is ending.
17:47Well, that's kind of what it was for.
17:49This audio was taken from a number station run by Poland's Ministry of Public Security,
17:53and it was broadcast to spies during the Cold War.
17:57Number 11, Spoons.
17:59We're going way back with Spoons,
18:01the first video in the famous Salad Finger series.
18:04Spoons was first published on Newgrounds on July 1st, 2004,
18:08and made the transition to YouTube in 2007.
18:11Hello.
18:14I like rusty spoons.
18:17I like to touch them.
18:21The animated short was a major success on both platforms,
18:24and has since garnered over 40 million views on YouTube.
18:27It's an all-time classic bit of internet horror,
18:30featuring unforgettable visuals,
18:31an uneasy storyline,
18:33and a wonderfully eerie vocal performance from creator David Firth.
18:37I see.
18:39Then I must leave.
18:41It was truly ahead of its time,
18:44and even to this day,
18:45Spoons remains a wickedly creepy little video.
18:49Number 10,
18:50mass of daddy longlegs in a tree.
18:52Kill it with fire.
18:54In this video clip,
18:55someone from Arizona felt compelled to disturb a cluster of daddy longlegs gathering together,
19:01for whatever reason.
19:02Anyone with serious arachnophobia watching this,
19:05avert your eyes.
19:06While daddy longlegs aren't necessarily a harmful arachnid in comparison to other spiders in the world,
19:12the manner in which they scatter across the tree with those freakishly long legs of theirs
19:16definitely unsettles us.
19:19The second the person filming pokes them with a stick,
19:21they scramble into every possible direction.
19:24And even though we know there's a computer screen separating us from the creepy crawlers,
19:29we cannot help but be nervous that they might overflow right onto our laps.
19:33Number 9,
19:40hand thing.
19:41Hi.
19:42Hey, what is it?
19:43Have you ever done the hand thing?
19:45Neither have we,
19:46and we doubt we ever will after watching this creep fest.
19:49In this video,
19:50two people that have dressed themselves up to look like giant dolls
19:53speak to each other in very squeaky voices,
19:56while talking about and performing the hand thing.
19:59God, I heard you're doing the hand thing.
20:01Ahoy.
20:02Ahoy.
20:03They make incredibly strange noises
20:06as they repeat the same hand movements over and over again.
20:09The repetitive nature of the video generates a heavy sense of madness,
20:13as we're sucked further and further into this mind-numbing
20:16and off-putting cycle of unparalleled insanity.
20:19It may not have grotesque monsters or unexpected jump scares,
20:23but hand thing proves that a descent into pure, inexplicable lunacy
20:27can sometimes be more effectively terrifying than anything else.
20:31Ahoy.
20:32Ahoy.
20:35Ahoy.
20:35We feel anything but fantastic after watching this one.
20:49In this disturbing video,
20:51a mannequin is dressed up in a variety of different outfits
20:54and placed into a plain-looking room.
20:56Seems more weird than scary with just the visuals alone,
20:59but it's the combination of both the offbeat imagery and chilling audio
21:03that truly sells the scares this time around.
21:05The eerie soundtrack provides a calm but altogether unnerving atmosphere,
21:10as the lifeless doll does little but stare at you while the strange melody continues on.
21:15While we're at it, what the hell is up with that video description?
21:25It brings up Greek mythology and the philosophies of what true beauty are.
21:29It makes us feel like they're confusing the terms
21:32It makes us fantastic and frightening a little here.
21:39Number 7.
21:40The Disneyland Ghost
21:41Who's up for something a little more lighthearted to take a break from all this horrifying material?
21:46How about a trip to Disneyland?
21:48Disneyland is the exact opposite of spooky.
21:50It is the most approachable, friendly, charming place we can think of.
21:54And what was that?
21:56Unfortunately, it seems like not even the wonderful world of Disney
21:59is safe from the supernatural entities of our universe.
22:02We've reimagined the hitchhiking ghost scene using our newest, most innovative technologies.
22:07It now allows for the hitchhiking ghost to interact with guests directly,
22:10placing them at the center of the story.
22:12Some people have hypothesized that this is the spirit of the man himself, Walt Disney.
22:17Whether it's an actual ghost or just a video glitch,
22:20the image seen here will not be leaving our subconscious anytime soon.
22:25Number 6.
22:25Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared
22:27What's your favorite idea?
22:29Mine is being creative.
22:31How do you get the idea?
22:34I just try to think creatively.
22:36How could a video featuring colorful, happy-go-lucky puppets
22:40gathering together to get creative be even remotely scary?
22:43Well, let's just say that Don't Hug Me, I'm Scared
22:45is the very definition of expecting the unexpected.
22:49Everything seems to be calm and collected at first,
22:51but the slow burn of the terror to come begins to build until the ending,
22:55where the intensity reaches a fever pitch and things get nuts.
22:59Shocking split-second shots of hearts, bloody pies, and thunderstorms
23:10are accompanied by an ear-scratching soundtrack,
23:12all of which results in an incredibly disturbing experience.
23:16We never expected a seemingly Sesame Street-style video to get so dark so fast.
23:21Don't follow the instructions in the video's titles.
23:24Please hug us, we're scared.
23:25Number 5. Obey the Walrus
23:34Also known as Obedete a la Morsa
23:36This entry defies any sense of logic or explanation.
23:45After the brief and inexplicable inclusion of the villain Andross
23:48from the Star Fox video game series,
23:50the video suddenly bombards the viewer with a kaleidoscope of colors
23:53and visual patterns before the main attraction begins.
24:01The video is apparently a product made by a Latin American cult of people
24:06who worship an otherworldly entity known only as the walrus.
24:10Whatever the individual dancing around has to do with this walrus is anyone's guess.
24:14Supposedly, bad luck will follow anyone shortly after they witness this video.
24:19If your life gets crappy shortly after watching our countdown,
24:22we're sorry for dragging you into this.
24:30Number 4. Body of a Pig
24:32Let's play count the nopes, shall we?
24:42Nope, number 1.
24:44The cameraman and his colleagues are exploring a dark and desolate environment.
24:48Nope, number 2.
24:49Said environment was highly rumored to be haunted.
24:52Nope, number 3.
24:54And this one is the kicker.
24:55They decide to open a big red metallic door to see what's on the other side.
24:59Almost immediately upon opening the door,
25:07a grumbly voice is just barely audible,
25:09with the video repeating the sound several times just in case you don't catch it.
25:14After being slowed down and cleared up,
25:16a voice can be heard saying,
25:17I have the body of a pig,
25:19just before making grunting sounds.
25:22What they heard, however,
25:23is nothing compared to what they saw.
25:25Number 3. Bedfellows
25:34We can all take some comfort in knowing that this video is 100% fake,
25:39as it is a short horror film identifying itself as a work of fiction.
25:44However, this doesn't make it any less scary.
25:46A woman lies in bed next to who we can only assume to be her husband,
25:50due to the numerous photographs of them that we are shown throughout the video.
25:53However, things take a twisted and unexpected turn
25:56when the woman gets a phone call from her significant other,
25:59who is just letting her know that he went for a little walk.
26:06Well, that's all well and good,
26:09but if that's her significant other on the phone,
26:11then who's lying next to her?
26:13Cue the heart-stopping jump scare in 3, 2, 1.
26:18Number 2. Dining Room or There Is Nothing
26:21Upon clicking the video,
26:28you are immediately shown a pale woman in drab clothing
26:32while a fire rages behind her.
26:34Things only get creepier from there
26:36as the woman stares blankly into the camera.
26:38As it pulls back,
26:39it reveals an empty-looking room
26:41and what appears to be a bowl set for someone sitting opposite of her.
26:45She also says phrases that can't really be understood in her eerily monotone voice.
26:50We can't help but jump in our seats when she suddenly smashes her face into the bowl.
26:54We aren't really sure what's happening here,
26:56but horror does work best with that element of the unknown.
27:00And this video has it in spades.

27:261. Girl Goes Psycho During Makeup Tutorial
27:32So we're gonna just start here.
27:45Scary. Horrifying. Disturbing. Creepy.
27:49Take your pick over which words you use to describe what happens in this video.
27:52Because by the end, it left us completely speechless.
27:55It starts off innocently enough,
27:57with a woman providing helpful hints and suggestions for makeup advice.
