00:00When looking for habitable planets there are a couple of things necessary for life to survive
00:07there. Things like atmosphere, ideally with oxygen, it has to be in a certain range of a
00:11heat-providing star, and it needs water. And for the first time ever astronomers think they've
00:16finally found a super-Earth exoplanet that has all three. Angelo Ciaris, an astronomer and lead
00:21author of the report, said in a press conference, this is the only planet right now that we know
00:25outside the solar system that has the correct temperature to support water. It has an atmosphere,
00:29and it has water in it, making this planet the best candidate for habitability that we
00:33know right now. They're calling it K2-18b, and it's 110 light-years away, tucked in the
00:39Leo constellation. It orbits a red dwarf star that's about a third our sun's mass, meaning
00:43it has shorter years, orbiting in just 33 days. But K2-18b is big, roughly eight times the size
00:50of Earth, and made of similar compounds as the Moon and Mars, which astronomers say because
00:54of the detection of water could mean an ocean covers its entire planetary surface.
