Philippine military blames China for ships collision in disputed South China Sea

The confrontation near the Scarborough Shoal was the latest flare-up of the long-simmering territorial standoff in the contested waters of the South China Sea.

00:00The Philippine military has blamed China for the collision of two Chinese Navy and Coast Guard ships

00:06while trying to drive Philippine fishermen and Coast Guard from a disputed shoal in the South China Sea.

00:12Manila said in a statement on Tuesday that it would assess how to respond to Beijing's use of military force against civilians.

00:19The Philippine's foreign ministry slammed the Chinese vessels for posing a grave danger to its nationals.

00:24They added that the collision resulted in visible heavy damage to the Chinese ships and possibly even injuries.

00:32It's the latest in a string of maritime confrontations between the Philippines and China

00:36who often face off in territorial standoffs in the contested waters of the South China Sea.

00:42The United States, a longtime treaty ally of the Philippines,

00:45condemned the latest reckless action by China against a Filipino vessel.

00:49China accused Manila for the confrontation, saying its ships intruded in its territory,

00:55prompting Beijing's immediate response.
