00:00The night of 14th August 1947 was the night when the people of India were on the threshold of freedom after breaking free from the slavery of treaties.
00:08Crores of Indians were eagerly waiting for this moment but before the morning, that night of celebration left a wound that has not healed till date.
00:18Our country had got freedom from the British rule but before leaving, the British ignited such a fire in undivided India which was extinguished with the blood of 15 lakh innocent people.
00:28The British divided the undivided India into two parts, India and Pakistan. On one side India was celebrating independence and on the other side rivers of blood were flowing.
00:39Millions of people were fleeing, leaving behind their homes, land and loved ones
00:43Friends, in today's video we will take you 77 years back in the history of India
00:48And we will show you some such pictures of independent India that will send chills down your spine and bring tears to your eyes
00:56But before moving forward, we have a small request that every Indian and Pakistani must watch this video completely.
01:03Akhand Bharat where people of every religion lived together happily
01:08Where in the year 1857, revolutionaries of both Hindu and Muslim religions were fighting together for independence
01:16But the policy of the British was divide and rule
01:20The British started trying to create divisions between Hindus and Muslims who had been living together for centuries
01:26Like giving different jobs to Hindus and Muslims, building different schools for them and fuelling religious issues
01:33The British had sowed seeds of hatred between the two communities by exaggerating small issues
01:38He kept inciting Hindus and Muslims against each other
01:42Gradually this hatred became so deep that it led to partition
01:46But the surprising thing was that the responsibility of dividing India into two parts was given to a British judge named Cyril Radcliff.
01:53He had never even visited India, let alone lived in India
01:57He had to decide in just six weeks which land would belong to India and which to Pakistan
02:03Radcliff drew lines on the map that divided Punjab and Bengal into two parts
02:09These lines were drawn in such a hurry that many villages, towns and families were divided overnight
02:14When people woke up in the morning, they found out that their house was in India, but the farm was in Pakistan
02:19The places where people were living together for generations, in a single day they were converted from Hindustani to Pakistani
02:25These decisions were neither made by understanding the land nor by asking the people, just an Englishman's pen moved and history changed forever
02:32Friends, when partition happened at the time of independence, it was the rainy season in India, the rivers were in spate, the crops of the farmers were destroyed due to the fence
02:41Nearly two crore people were leaving their homes and running here and there, where on one side lakhs of Hindus were migrating from Pakistan to India, on the other side lakhs of Muslims were running from India to Pakistan
02:55Right now you are watching video footage of a train going from Delhi to Lahore on your screen
03:00People were forced to travel sitting on the roofs of trains
03:03And those who were unable to get trains were fleeing in trucks.
03:07Some people were taking the help of bullock carts, while some families were travelling from one country to another by loading their essential goods on bicycles.
03:16Where on one hand freedom was no less than a boon for crores of people
03:21At the same time, it had become a curse for millions of people.
03:24Because leaving everything behind and fleeing to another country to save one's life was nothing less than a nightmare
03:30Although this story of partition was written many years before independence
03:35Because the British had filled the countrymen with such poison regarding religion
03:39Due to which many political leaders formed their own parties in the name of religion.
03:44Just as Muslim League chief Muhammad Ali Jinnah had insisted on this many years before independence
03:50that the Muslims living in India should be given a separate country
03:54And his stubbornness hurt the brotherhood and culture of India so deeply that its marks can be seen even today.
04:02The pictures you are seeing on the screen right now are the pictures of the time when Muhammad Ali Jinnah fulfilled his insistence on taking oath to become the Governor General of Pakistan and he sat on his favorite chair.
04:15In 1947, Lord Louis Mountbatten became the last Viceroy of India. He organized several meetings between Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammad Ali Jinnah for several months, after which on 3 June 1947, Louis Mountbatten announced that India would be independent on 15 August 1947.
04:45Ali Jinnah was even offered to become the first Prime Minister of India. Many historians say that Pandit ji was very shocked by the news of partition.
04:55On the evening of 14 August, when Nehruji was preparing for the speech on independence with Indira Gandhi and Padma Naidu at his home, suddenly the phone rang
05:04When Nehruji picked up the phone, he got a sad news. The new administration of Lahore had cut off the water supply to the Hindu and Sikh areas.
05:13Because of which people were suffering from thirst in their homes and if anyone came out to get water, he was killed.
05:19Within no time, the fire of violence erupted and engulfed the whole of India.
05:24Most of the riots happened in Punjab and Bengal, people were thirsty for each other's blood
05:30Hearing this news Nehru's face turned red and there were tears in his eyes.
05:34But then he gathered courage and composed himself.
05:38On the night of 14th August at 11:55 PM Nehru Ji started his speech in the Central Hall of Parliament.
05:44After listening to this speech of Pandit ji, shouting slogans in the name of Mahatma Gandhi
05:49The countrymen had sounded the conch shell of freedom
05:52But what did crores of countrymen know
05:54That in some areas the people of the country are paying a very big price for this freedom
05:59The video footage you are seeing on your screen right now
06:02These are some rare videos of refugee camps in India and Pakistan
06:06How small children are standing in line in front of the tap to fill a bucket of water
06:12After picking them up and walking for a long distance, they reach those refugee camps.
06:17Where they don't even have a place to live
06:19There are just a few torn tents and trees for shade
06:22Where there is so little space to sit that people are burning their bones by sitting on the hot ground in the scorching sun
06:29Some kids don't even have clothes to wear
06:32People who were living peacefully two days ago have become refugees today
06:38Women are begging with folded hands for food and shelter for their families
06:42The children's bodies have become malnourished due to hunger
06:46But still lakhs of people are leaving their homes and moving ahead without any destination
06:52Look at the condition of this train where people are not even hesitating to risk their lives by hanging on the window
06:59Because they have to reach India from Pakistan by any means.
07:02These pictures are from Lahore where people are cooking food while sitting near the railway tracks
07:07So that when the train arrives, these people can board the train quickly
07:11Not only the top of this train parked here but even the empty space between two coaches is jam packed with people
07:18Those who have some broken things in their hands and hope to stay alive in their hearts
07:23In fact, just thinking about what happened at that time makes my soul tremble.
07:28Friends, after watching this footage, tears will come in your eyes too
07:32In fact, these poor people are the ones who died in agony due to the earthquake at that time.
07:37Our countrymen in the refugee camp with a plate in their hand to eat their fill
07:41They were standing in long queues and when they were getting food
07:45There was a smile on their faces as if they had got life back.
07:49But then Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and many great leaders handled the country even in such difficult circumstances.
08:00Due to which today we Indians have gone many times ahead of Britain.
08:05In this partition, about two crore people left their country and about 10 to 15 lakh innocent people lost their lives
08:12But the sad thing is that the Britishers committed such heinous crimes against us Indians which were written in red letters in the history of India.
08:21But still they were sent off like wedding guests
08:24On 28 February 1948, when the last contingent of the British was leaving our country
08:31So he was sent off with a band playing
08:33After which the British boarded their boat from Mumbai and returned forever waving the British flag with great pride
08:42But before leaving, he left behind a spark whose fire destroyed the lives of one million innocent people.
08:48Someone's father was killed, someone's mother died in agony
08:52Someone's brother got separated, someone's sister got left behind
08:55Friends, if you are still watching this video
08:59And if you too feel the pain of those millions of people from your heart
