00:00Nothing more important than the Shador Sanders-Cleveland Browns game
00:03this Friday, this past Friday, against the Carolina Panthers.
00:08The Browns enter that game just under a touchdown underdog,
00:11and Sanders steps up in a big way.
00:14Multiple touchdown passes, throws for 138 yards,
00:18plays through the first three quarters of that.
00:22And some might try and say, oh, come on, it's preseason.
00:25You know, how much of it was starters?
00:27How much of it was second string, third string?
00:30The reality is Shador Sanders entered into this game, we know, Joe,
00:35fourth on the Cleveland Browns depth chart.
00:38It feels to me that if somebody pressed Cleveland for an updated depth chart,
00:43there's no way Shador Sanders should still be fourth.
00:45No, absolutely not.
00:46And I was one in the camp that thought Shador Sanders was a first-round selection,
00:50but he showed and displayed the poise,
00:53knowing where he wanted to go in terms of the passing tree,
00:56leading his team on two touchdown drives, throwing and making the proper decisions.
01:01And that's what you want to see.
01:02The moment wasn't too big.
01:03And if you want to make the argument that it was a preseason game,
01:06look at Quinn Ewers for the Miami Dolphins with two fumbles, 91 yards,
01:10and that train wreck that we saw play out in Chicago.
01:13I mean, Shador Sanders stepped up and lived up to expectations.
01:17I think, and listen, the Ewers point is a good one.
01:20It's not as if, though, the Browns sent out all of this talent around Shador Sanders.
01:26There was no Jerry, Judy, Dylan Sampson ran the ball twice.
01:30We still don't really know if Quinshawn Jotkins is going to be on this football team to start the year.
01:34So, again, it's not David Njoku didn't play.
01:37I think the one thing that really resonated with me watching this football game,
01:42and it's undeniable, Shador Sanders is a star.
01:46Now, sometimes star, we take it to mean the level of play, right?
01:52And I'm not trying to say that Shador Sanders is a top five, six quarterback.
01:56I'm not saying anything crazy like that.
01:58I'm talking about star power, get people to the stadium type of thing, selling out jerseys.
02:04Sanders has that right now, and I don't think that's nothing for this Cleveland football team.
02:11The reality is he's not the only rookie they drafted.
02:14There aren't Dylan Gabriel jerseys flooding the stands.
02:18I don't know if anybody in Cleveland owns a Kenny Pickett jersey,
02:21and I think if you are the Browns, there is something to that.
02:26They had it for a moment in Baker Mayfield.
02:29They squandered that.
02:30There's no other way to put it.
02:31Baker's found success now in Tampa Bay,
02:33and I don't think that's one of those things where, like Sam Darnold not working out in the Jets,
02:39and the Jets moving on.
02:40You had to move on.
02:42The Browns, I don't know if they had to move on from Baker Mayfield.
02:44They messed that all up.
02:45When you get someone at the quarterback position with legitimate star power in the building,
02:51I don't think that should be hand-waved.
02:53And I think the Browns, unless Joe Flacco shocks us all,
02:56and this is a team that starts the year six and three,
02:58which I don't think is happening at all,
03:00at some point the Browns have to make sure Shador Sanders is getting a handful of starts,
03:05I think, this NFL season.
03:06I think they should be battling it out.
03:07And to your point about star power, it's almost like a Heisman Trophy winner,
03:11what he comes with.
03:12He comes with the fanfare.
03:14He comes with the hype, the ability to put fans in the seats.
03:17That's what Shador Sanders brings.
03:19Love him or hate him, you're going to be talking about Shador Sanders
03:22and his performance each and every week.
03:24And when you talk about Cleveland, big picture,
03:26they want to challenge the likes of Baltimore and Cincinnati and Pittsburgh in the division,
03:31but they're not going anywhere right now.
03:32They have a five-and-a-half win total,
03:34and they have the ability to start either.
03:36Can he pick at Shador Sanders?
03:38I don't think Dylan Gabriel is in the mix.
03:40I think it's both of those quarterbacks.
03:41Which one elevates your program?
03:43And if they could do that, and let's say they don't step up,
03:47you could still rely on Joe Flacco,
03:49the veteran that led you to a playoff appearance just a couple of seasons ago.
