00:00Imran here and today have breaking news for every personal independence payment claimant across the
00:05UK. If you receive PIP, you are in the middle of applying. The next few minutes could be the
00:11most important update you hear this month. I am talking about changes that could mean more money
00:17in your pocket, assessments that might work in your favour, and some little-known rules that
00:23many people miss but could completely change the outcome of their claim. Stay with me until the
00:29very end because I promise you will walk away knowing exactly what is happening right now
00:34and how it could impact you or someone you care about. Let's start with the big one.
00:40From August 2025, the Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed an adjustment in the
00:46PIP payment rates in line with the latest cost of living data. This is not just the regular annual
00:52operating we see in April. This is an additional targeted, uplift for certain groups who have been
00:58identified as most affected by rising household expenses. If you qualify, this could mean an
01:05extra boost on top of your regular payments, starting from the end of this month. Many claimants
01:10will not even realise they are eligible unless they check their award letter carefully over the coming
01:16weeks. Now here is something that will surprise a lot of people. The DWP is trialling a new assessment
01:23process in several parts of the UK. Instead of the traditional face-to-face or long telephone
01:29interviews, some claimants will be invited to complete a more streamlined assessment with fewer
01:35questions and quicker decision times. The aim is to reduce the backlog and to cut down on the number of
01:42stressful repeat assessments. But there is a catch. This faster process will rely heavily on the evidence you
01:49submit. So if you do not send strong medical documents or detailed supporting information,
01:54your chances of a lower award could actually increase. That is why preparation is more important
02:00than ever. I have also been seeing more people talk about hidden rules in the PIP system.
02:07One of these is the descriptor-based scoring method. Many claimants do not realise that even if they cannot do
02:13a task safely or repeatedly, they might still be scored as if they can, unless they explain exactly
02:20why it causes them pain, risk or extreme fatigue. This is why some people with genuine needs get lower
02:27points than expected. Understanding how to describe your daily living and mobility challenges in a way
02:33that matches the official criteria can make all the difference. Let me share an example. A viewer
02:39recently told me she had been struggling to cook meals due to severe joint pain, but her claim from
02:45Simply said she found it difficult. The assessor scored her as if she could still cook unaided,
02:51only after she appealed and explained that she could not do it safely without risk of injury
02:57did she get the points she needed for the enhanced rate. This is not about exaggeration. This is about
03:04giving the full picture so the decision maker understands the reality of your situation.
03:11Another important change to mention is the increase in random award reviews, even if your award has years left.
03:18Before renewal, you could be contacted for an early reassessment. This is part of ADWP effort to ensure
03:26awards remain accurate, but it also means you need to keep your evidence up to date. Do not wait until renewal to gather
03:34medical letters, occupational therapist reports or specialist notes. Keep them in a safe place
03:40and make sure they reflect your current condition. The payment schedule for August is also something
03:46you need to watch closely. Because of the summer bank holiday at the end of the month, some payments
03:52will be made earlier than usual. If your payment date falls on the Monday of the bank holiday, you should expect
03:59to receive it on the preceding Friday. This might sound good at first, but it means you will have a longer gap until
04:06your next payment, so budgeting will be essential. There is also talk in Parliament about aligning certain parts of the
04:14PIP system with Universal Credits Digital. Processes. If this goes ahead, it could mean online applications and updates
04:21become the standard that could speed things up for some people, but create difficulties for those who are
04:29not confident with technology. We may see a bigger role for Citizens Advice and similar organisations in
04:35helping claimants navigate the digital changes. I want to quickly clear up a myth I keep hearing.
04:42Some people think that if they take on a small part-time job while receiving PIP, they will automatically lose it.
04:49That is not true. PIP is not means tested. It is based on how your condition affects you, not your
04:57income or savings. The only time work could affect your award is if it contradicts the limitations you
05:03described in your claim. So if you said, you cannot walk more than 20 metres without pain, but your job
05:09requires you to walk long distances. That could raise questions during a review. Before we wrap up, I need
05:16to stress one more thing. The DWP has been increasing the number of fraud investigations, and in some
05:23cases, they are reviewing years of past claims. This does not mean they are accusing everyone, but it does
05:30mean that keeping your claim accurate and up to date is vital. If your condition improves, you must tell them.
05:36If it worsens, you should also let them know and request a review. So, what should you do right now?
05:44First, check your award letter when the new payments come through this month. Look for any changes in your
05:51rate and make sure they match what you are entitled to. Second, gather any medical evidence you have and keep
05:58it ready in case you are called for a review or reassessment. Third, if you are applying for PIP for
06:05the first time, take extra care to match your answers to the official descriptors and explain
06:10clearly how your condition affects you in daily life. Finally, stay informed. The rules, payment rates
06:18and processes can change quickly, and being ahead of the curve can mean the difference between getting
06:24what you are entitled to and missing out. Hello, everyone. That's all for today's PIP update.
06:31But I will continue to monitor every change and bring you the facts without the confusion.
