04:45for automation of the institute's processes for implementation of the erp system and for
04:51infrastructural development a business was not as usual today in gikomba market nairobi after section
04:59of angry traders took to the streets in protest over delayed mitumba market goods the traders insist
05:05that the government lifted the ban on mitumba products but till now no action has been taken
05:11concerning concerning the same saidrico ronje has more this was the situation for about three hours
05:20today in gikomba market nairobi with angry traders downing their tools in the name of peaceful
05:26demonstrations gone wrong close to 100 stalls remained closed after police officers tear gas the angry
05:34workers and the people are not as usual for the people of people who have to do this
05:43but you are just comfortable where you are umeka kwa kiti yako sisi kama mabeba vijanawa kwa
05:48hapa watoto wetu anakuli yako tapadhali tumeumia manyumba tuna fungiwa kwa sababia kosa mtumba
05:54Despite the market being on the spotlight for numerous fire incidences, the traders now claim that Industrialization Cabinet Secretary Bertie Minor has derailed the presidential order on the importation of Mitumba products leading to low market profit.
06:16Sasa Ashida ni beti alisema hamefungua Mitumba, of which sisi ya tujakubaliwa kuleta na atu yioni.
06:24Na wakiigiza mziko Tazania, bado in Nigeria inaingia. That means Corona tu ni Kenya tu inaingia na mtumba inaingia na ugojo wa Corona.
06:35Tunataka maali, president yako ajwe tunaumia, matiangi maali yako wajwe tunaumia sana.
06:45However, according to the area member of county assembly, the government lifted the ban on Mitumba products but the act has not yet been implemented so far.
06:55The thing is, two months down the line since the president lifted the ban on Mitumba, we wonder why the Ministry of Health and Trade is not lifting the ban.
07:08More so, the president directed the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Trade to come up with a way where we can do our business.
07:17Now we are wondering, what is Bertie doing with our business?
07:20It has not been a rosy affair here in Gikomba after confrontation with the police, with the angry traders.
07:30However, the angry traders still insist that the government should lift the suspension.
07:36Servi Koronje, Switch TV.
07:39Elsewhere, a large crowd that had attended a wedding at a one, or rather at one of their relatives' home in Likoni, Mombasa County,
07:47appeared to abandon all COVID-19 health rules set by the government as they celebrated a wedding party of their kins.
07:54Despite the county being second after Nairobi on COVID-19 positive cases,
07:58many revelers dismissed any safety concerns to celebrate.
08:03Our reporter, Kennedy Kimani, with more.
08:09From the streets of Likoni, where the bridegroom originates,
08:13to the beautiful beaches of Diani in Ukundakwale County,
08:17they travel to collect their kins' wife-to-be.
08:20Hundreds gathered and danced, taking photos and filming,
08:23with the majority of them not wearing face masks nor maintaining social distancing.
08:28Mombasa has had 2,170 COVID-19 positive cases, according to the Cambry Tracker.
08:57The government, through the Ministry of Health, encourages Kenyan residents to maintain social distancing,
09:03wearing face masks, and practice in good hygiene.
09:06This comes a few months after the government easing coronavirus restrictions,
09:10to some degree, with worship in areas and restaurants, allowed to reopen.
09:15Today, Mombasa County reported 16 new COVID-19 cases.
09:19However, a plea by the health officials is being met with resistance
09:23from some coastal residents who are treating the virus normally.
09:28Kennedy, Kimani, Switch TV.
09:32Nyeri Town Member of Parliament, Ngunjiri Wambogo,
09:35wants the Minister of Education to come up with a strategy
09:37that will ensure millions of students and pupils
09:40do not lose their academic year due to COVID-19.
09:44The controversial MP says that the ministry should reorganize the exam schedule
09:48and ensure that those that were to sit for exam do so in a safe environment
09:53in order to protect them from psychological trauma caused by the cancellation of the exam.
09:58But we as a country have actually made a decision that has scrapped an entire academic year.
10:04I do not know whether the Ministry of Education has thought through that issue.
10:08I personally get the impression that they haven't.
10:10I'm urging the CS to please reconsider, please sit down.
10:13This is a Ministry of Education and Research.
10:18That research aspect needs to come into play at this moment in time.
10:21We need to see well-thought-out plans
10:24that explain what we are doing and why we are doing it
10:28and the effect it is going to have on us.
10:30Away from that, the Kilifi County Assembly General Oversight Committee
10:34has rejected a report by the county executive
10:37on the usage of 220 million shillings meant for COVID-19 emergency fund,
10:43timing the two-page interim report as shallow
10:45and failed to indicate clearly how the fund was spent.
10:49Wellington Okech now reports.
10:51With a fiery debate looming on the usage of funds meant for COVID-19 emergency,
10:58the Oversight Committee now wants accountability
11:00from the county government of Kilifi.
11:02This is after grilling the county executive committee members
11:05for devolution, Professor Gabriel Katana,
11:07Charles Dadu of Health and Finance,
11:10CEC member Samuel Nzai over the expenditure of 220 million COVID-19 funds.
11:15220 million shillings was allocated to this exercise
11:18and then they also received direct receipts into the emergency fund of about 311,000,
11:24which the total fund had 220 million, 311,000.
11:31Now, in the response, the CEC member has explained
11:33that this is just but an interim report.
11:37However, be it interim, members were not satisfied with it
11:42and we have referred them to go back
11:43to give us a detailed report of expenditure.
11:48Kakuyuni MCA Nixon Mramba
11:50termed the two-page interim report as shallow
11:52and failed to indicate clearly how the fund was spent.
11:57Tunataka report, comprehensive report.
12:01Tupate report ya ndani kabisa,
12:03ambayo inaeleza kila kitu katika hii pesa yote
12:06tulopata kutoka kwa saragaliku,
12:08ile tulipata kwa hisani,
12:10na ile 220 million ya county.
12:13Kama imetumika vipi kufikia sasa.
12:15Manake tunapata maswali mengi kutoka kwa nanchi wetu
12:18waliutuchagua, na hatuna lakuwajibu.
12:20According to the reports,
12:2210 million was used to buy soap,
12:2446.1 million on ventilators,
12:2723 million on assorted none
12:29for marketical items,
12:304 million bought ICU beds,
12:32and 12 million on the parties
12:34of normal beds and mattresses.
12:36Mr. Muramba said he raised the questions
12:39on the funds usage,
12:40writing to the speaker demanding to know
12:42how the funds were used,
12:44since there were a lot of donors who contributed.
12:46Tumewambia waende tena,
12:49watengeze report itakaweleza kila kitu kiundani.
12:53Wakisema kwamba,
12:54tulinunua sabuni za shilingi milioni kumi.
12:57Tunataka tujue sabuni hizi.
12:58Zilinunuliwa,
13:00zikaenda wapi na wapi.
13:01Nani nani alipautiwa kazi hie?
13:03Watulete mpaka voucher,
13:05watulete kila kitu mpaka payment voucher,
13:07everything.
13:08Ili tuhakikishe kweli,
13:09pesa ya muananchi imetumika vizuri.
13:12Wakituwambia kwamba,
13:14kuna wafanyikazi walilipua ala wansesi za milioni kumi.
13:17Tungetaka kujua ni wafanyikazi
13:19yupi na yupi walilipua hiyo pesa.
13:24The MCS said
13:26they are worried because the same scenario
13:28is happening at the national government
13:29and since May,
13:31they have never received the report they requested
13:33and all they want is accountability.
13:36Wellington Okech,
13:37Switch TV.
13:4114 minutes now past 7pm.
13:44Time to take a short commercial break.
13:45We'll be back with more stories.
13:47Stay tuned.
13:48Welcome back to Breaking Today.
14:08My name is Joel Church
14:09and our sign language interpreter
14:11is Michael Maide.
14:13Moving on,
14:14as the world marks international youth day,
14:17the National Youth Council
14:19has made the whole week
14:20National Youth Week.
14:22Moreover,
14:23Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association
14:25in collaboration with Y-ACT
14:27launched a framework
14:28to enable the youth
14:29to engage in law policy making
14:31at national level.
14:33In an exclusive interview to Switch TV,
14:35Kimani Kuria,
14:36who is Molo's member of parliament,
14:38and Roy Sasaka,
14:39who is the National Youth Council CEO,
14:41spoke to Vicky Mugambi
14:43about the events of the day.
14:45In celebration of National Youth Week
14:49and International Youth Day,
14:52Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association
14:54in collaboration with Y-ACT
14:57launched a framework
14:59to enable the youth
15:00to engage in policy
15:02and lawmaking procedures
15:03at a national level.
15:05The majority of the work
15:08that goes on in parliament
15:09is not in a medium,
15:12in a language,
15:13in a form
15:14that is palatable
15:16to the youth.
15:18And if you ask
15:19a typical young person
15:20what is going on
15:21at parliament
15:22or whether it's
15:23National Assembly
15:24or Senate,
15:25then they do not know.
15:27And we thought,
15:28how can we have
15:29these young people out there
15:30who cannot all fit
15:32in parliament
15:33contribute
15:35to matters of parliament
15:37in a language
15:39that they understand
15:40and how they want done.
15:41The framework
15:42enables the youth
15:43to use technology
15:44and social media platforms
15:46to voice their ideas.
15:48In the long run,
15:49the framework
15:49is also aimed
15:50at providing the youth
15:52with a platform
15:53to hold
15:54their own
15:55public parliament sessions.
15:56Bunge, for example,
15:58on one of the most used platforms
16:00like Instagram.
16:03What is the presence
16:04of parliament
16:05in one of the most used media
16:07like TikTok
16:08or Snapchat?
16:09And that's where
16:10the young people are.
16:12So as long as
16:12we are communicating
16:13things of parliament
16:14on our newspapers,
16:16on radio,
16:18on TV,
16:18then a typical
16:1916, 17-year-old
16:22urban youth
16:23will not get
16:24that information.
16:25In an exclusive interview
16:27to Switch TV,
16:29National Youth Council
16:30CEO
16:31Roy Sasaka-Telewa
16:32said the president
16:34launched a framework
16:35for activities
16:36that are aimed
16:37at empowering
16:38the youth.
16:39As a country,
16:40we've suffered
16:41the increased
16:42high numbers,
16:43actually alarming,
16:44numbers of teenage pregnancies.
16:46And these,
16:47as National Youth Council,
16:48we don't take it lightly.
16:49We realize
16:50that these are the youth
16:51in transition.
16:54These are the
16:55people who are supposed
16:56to be contributing
16:56to the economic pillar.
16:58So how have we
16:59addressed this?
17:00We've actually come up
17:01with programs
17:02to have conversations,
17:05commonalities,
17:06with our partners
17:07in the communities.
17:08And that informs
17:09why we came up
17:09with Sawazisha Gumzo,
17:11just a conversation
17:12in our communities.
17:13That informs why
17:14with our partners
17:15we've been distributing
17:16what we call
17:18hygiene products.
17:19National Youth Council
17:20was launched
17:21in 2009
17:22in the aim
17:23of creating
17:23a breach
17:24between the youth
17:25and the government.
17:27Vicky Mogambi
17:27for Switch TV.
17:30On to other news.

17:53seen a rise

18:09with the pandemic,
18:11Asha Hersey Foundation
18:12has given support
18:13to youth
18:14by providing

18:16like masks

20:30Time to now get sporty.
20:42It's a sign of relief for 2009 Kenya Premier League champions of Apaka FC after online betting
20:48champion or rather online betting company, Abetika, renewed their two-year sponsorship deal
20:54with the club under the Abetika No Community initiative.
20:57The new deal is worth 77 million shillings, which translates to 38.5 million shillings
21:03per year or rather per season, a 10% increase from the previous deal.
21:08Sofapaka captain Elia Seche and head coach John Barraza say the extended contract is a big
