00:00Weddings are becoming far less traditional overall, but according to the 2025 Australian
00:09Wedding Industry Report, the rising cost of living is having a huge effect on the way
00:13couples wish to celebrate their special day. In particular, it's affecting when couples choose
00:19to say I do, with up to 30% of the surveyed saying they would delay their nuptials in order to save
00:25money. Meanwhile, 10% of those surveyed said they would have a shorter engagement period to avoid
00:30having to foot any future price rises. For wedding guests, the rising cost of living is also having
00:37an effect on how much they're willing to spend to celebrate their friends and family's wedding day.
00:42Wishing Wells and future funds have risen in popularity as couples opt for cash instead of
00:48traditional registry of gifts. Guests, for their part, have become more generous, spending on
00:53average $50 more than in previous years for close friends and family, and on average about $13 more
01:00on couples outside their immediate family. Gone are the days where a wedding guest might be able to
01:05get away with sending a happy couple a $50 set of cheese knives. Now it's customary for family and
01:12friends to fork out around $288 per wedding. After all, weddings are a pricey event, so why not share the
01:21costs around? As they say, it's better to give than to receive. Or you could just elope and save us all the trouble.
