00:26كريا. They are responsible for over 75,000 shahadahs which is making someone a Muslim. They
00:32have got one of the most watched religious videos on the entire internet. So let me introduce you
00:40to Sheikh Khaled Yaseen. So glad to be here. Lydia is equally an honor for me. You know you've got
00:46so many powerful videos going viral just in September that you've had over 100 million
00:53views. That's unbelievable. So I'm honored. Let's just try and spread the truth out there. But today
00:59we're going to be tackling some difficult questions. So are you ready for it? Of course.
01:04All right. I'm going to push you. We're going to try and get the truth out there and I'm going to be
01:08as unbiased as possible. Let's dive right in. Today I want to start off with one of the most
01:14asked questions on my channel. So this question not only comes from the Muslims, it comes from the
01:19non-believers, the atheists, the Christians, the Hindus, the Muslims, everyone that's asking
01:23this question. And we really need to get to the bottom of it. Are women in Islam oppressed?
01:28Yes, they are.
01:29What? Are you serious?
01:31But they're oppressed by Muslim men. And I just want to make it very clear
01:35that this has nothing to do with Islam. It's the culture.
01:39Oh, okay.
01:40But the culture is so dominant and it comes across, you know what I mean, that it comes
01:46from Islam. It doesn't come from Islam. It's just like Islamophobia. You know, it's really
01:51Muslim phobia. And so this idea of oppression, to be very honest and transparent to people
01:56and people like us to be honest with them, this idea of oppression comes from the culture
02:01of many Muslim men.
02:04Right. So what does Islam actually say about women's rights then?
02:08In Islam, women are on the top. Almighty God assigns the position of a woman on a higher
02:15level of that of a man. He says, reverence the wombs that bore you. He doesn't say give
02:20reverence to any other created thing, but he's saying give reverence to the wombs. So who
02:25is a womb? Women. Okay. Our prophet, in his final message, in his final message, what was
02:34the major statement that he made? O men, be careful of your duty to your women, because
02:40Allah is going to ask you about this responsibility. If anyone were to read the Qur'an objectively,
02:47you'll see that, unlike any other scripture, Allah has assigned a special place.
02:52I've actually read the Qur'an and there actually is a lot of interesting things in there relating
02:56to the women. I've noticed that it gives women rights to inheritance. It's giving women
03:02rights to work, to consent to marriage. It's probably the only religious book I've read
03:08that has actually physically spoken about the rights for women. But it says in the Qur'an
03:14that women are only eligible for half the inheritance of men.
03:18Well, you know, you have to really look beyond the perception, Lily. Allah says men
03:24are responsible. They're holding a responsibility over women. So that means that this young man
03:30who inherited, he has to take care of his grandmother, his mother, his sister, his daughters,
03:37his wife, his aunties, all those women he's responsible for. But the sister, his sister who
03:44gets half, she has no responsibility. You see?
03:47So she gets to keep all her inheritance.
03:48All her inheritance. And if she gets married, her husband has to take care of her.
03:52Really?
03:53So if you look at it, women hold wealth longer and over a more compounded way than men.
04:00That's so logical why God would say that. And if anything, the women actually get a better
04:06deal than the men. No responsibility and they get to inherit.
04:10Exactly.
04:11That makes a lot of sense. It's amazing how easy something can be mistranslated if
04:16you don't understand the context behind a verse. Another thing that's obviously so
04:20controversial these days is men allowed for wives. How can we understand the logic and
04:26the wisdom behind this?
04:27God, he knows best about this, but keep this in mind, Lily. Before the Islam, there was no
04:32limit upon men taking wives.
04:35That's right, yes.
04:36Yeah.
04:37Suleiman.
04:38Okay, so there wasn't any limit. Here, God set the limit.
04:43Right. So he really reduced the number of wives men could have.
04:46Not only reduced, but he made conditions for it. Lily, I think, let's just look at things
04:52honestly and not on the basis of emotion. There's just so many circumstances that exist, whether
04:57it be because of war, social conditions today. Women already outnumber men.
05:02Right.
05:03That's number one.
05:03Yeah.
05:04So if every man took a wife, what would happen to all the rest of the women?
05:09It would be enough, yeah. Especially in Ukraine and places like this today where the war is.
05:13Well, period. From a historical point of view, after World War I, in France, there were so
05:18many men that were killed in France.
05:20Yes.
05:20Okay, that there was maybe 15 or 20 women to every one man.
05:26Okay, so what happened in France? They had no one taking care of them. So Almighty God has taken
05:32this into consideration of social abnormalities. So it's not just about the sexual component. It's
05:39more about that allowance for women to be protected. So if a man is already married, he can have the
05:45option to marry a second wife to protect her.
05:48And then keep in mind, after we go through all this thing about the four wives, God says, and one is
05:53better for you if you only knew. So it means that four wives is the outside of the norm.
06:00Is the Quran the only book that put conditions of one wife?
06:03Of course. It's a comprehensive divine formula and prescription that works in regardless of the
06:11subjective feelings of women.
06:13Yeah. If you take out jealousy altogether, it is the most fair and logical way to structure.
06:19That's a good way to look at it. Again, always giving more rights, more considerations,
06:24more sensitivity. You know, but if people are not reading from a point of objectivity and,
06:31you know, subjectively clouds everything.
06:34Absolutely. Especially in modern days, they try and take everything out of context. They don't
06:37understand why these rules are in place.
06:40I mean, women should be grateful.
06:41So I feel like the rule is there and the space is there for four wives,
06:46but it's not really something that the men take advantage of in the Islamic community.
06:51No, it's not going to happen. In many places in the world, especially the Western world,
06:54it's illegal.
06:55That's true. I actually don't know anyone with a second wife, so I don't think it would be that
07:00common.
07:01You know, it's sort of like a sport among men talking about another wife. But in reality,
07:07no, it's not going to happen. I mean, it's going to be a really a phenomena, something
07:11that's outside of the norm.
07:13Right. Okay.
07:13So it's not normal.
07:14No, it's not normal at all.
07:16I lived in Thailand for a year. There was, I never met anyone that was a second wife.
07:20Turkey here now. I don't know anyone. Australia, definitely not. America. So I don't,
07:26I've never really seen it at all.
07:28Let me give you the other side of the planet. I'm headed to Nigeria. It's quite normal.
07:32In fact, it's abnormal for a man to have only one wife. It's just a matter of the culture.
07:37It's not just the Muslims, right?
07:39No, no, it's the culture.
07:40This is not just the Muslims only.
07:41Exactly. That's correct. And keep in mind, Almighty God is the God of what? Some Muslims?
07:48Of humanity.
07:49Yeah, okay.
07:49So when God gives us an order, he's taking into consideration everything that he knows.
07:56Yes. So we have to look at both ends of the spectrum to see the issue.
08:00Right. And then another thing that's really interesting is having a relationship with no
08:04responsibilities. It's just like cool these days. No one really cares anymore. No one cares about
08:09people's feelings. They're just running off with everyone that we twinned us, white, right? Like
08:13it's just so accessible.
08:15You have a very unique perception, I would say. People are not considering the recommendation
08:23or the formula or the prescription of Almighty God. It's not just a thing of what I like and what
08:30I think and my opinion, her opinion, and what I think and this and this. No, no, no. This is God's
08:35prescription. God has set those parameters. And we who have belief, we don't put our feelings first.
08:42We first put the prescription of Almighty God.
08:45Makes a lot of sense.
08:46All right, next, another really controversial question. I get asked this a lot on my channel
08:52about women's modesty and the hijab.
08:54I just think that it's misinterpreted and I think it's overplayed. There's no forcing or anything like that.
09:00First of all, this whole issue of hijab, what does it mean? Hijab means to cover something that is valuable.
09:08So women are valuable.
09:09Well, of course they are. They're the most valuable of the species. Women are more valuable than men.
09:14Why do you put money in the bank? For it to be secured. The most valuable things in the world
09:20that people put value to, gold, diamonds, pearls, whatever you want to call it, where do you find it?
09:25Whoever has wealth, they secure it. And so everything that's of really value needs to be secured,
09:33needs to be covered because of its value. And the most valuable of the species are women.
09:39Wow.
09:40So Almighty God and His wisdom has said,
09:44Oh, Muhammad, tell the believing women that when they go out from their homes,
09:50that they should cover themselves and not allow their ornaments to be seen.
09:55What's their ornaments? Well, obviously, a man's chest is not an ornament.
10:01Now, women are not so much turned on just like that because they see the chest of a man.
10:05But the breast of a woman? Wow.
10:11You know what I mean? Yeah.
10:15You see a man walking down the street, you understand me? You know, he's an athlete.
10:18You understand me? He's got on some track shorts or something like that.
10:22It's really no big deal. You know what I'm saying?
10:25But if you see a woman with really extra tight pants on and she's got a real nice shape and all that,
10:31I mean, it's like, wow, all the eyes are going to follow.
10:34I mean, we can just go on and on and on that the wisdom of God is set where the aesthetics of human beings are already in.
10:42God knows. So he tells, let them cover their ornaments.
10:46This is what God says.
10:48Did you see anybody whistle for a woman that's fully covered?
10:52No.
10:53Secondly, did you see anybody say, hey, sweetheart, hey, baby, to a nun?
10:57No.
10:57No. Why? Because they're covered.
11:00And just when people see something is covered, they have a second thought.
11:05It sort of mitigates that kind of reaction.
11:08And so, again, we have to go back to who knows best?
11:12God.
11:13Almighty God knows best.
11:14That's really interesting.
11:14Like even the science, the biology, the difference between men and women,
11:18how men are wired to have that sexual desire.
11:21And God knows that.
11:22So he's put those limits in place to protect everyone involved.
11:25The one who is the most wise, who is the creator, he has set these parameters for us.
11:31So the hijab basically is stopping women from being objectified by men.
11:36A lot of big companies these days use women almost as a sex object to sell their products.
11:42Use women for everything.
11:43For selling cars.
11:44They'll put a pretty woman in a bikini on the car.
11:47They'll, for makeup.
11:48Everything's about sex these days.
11:50Sex sells.
11:51Because men are scientifically wired.
11:54They're wired to look at, they want this.
11:57That's right.
11:58So, unfortunately, these companies are quite literally exploiting and objectifying women
12:04by using their sex to sell.
12:06The hijab distinguishes them.
12:10You see, Allah wants them to be distinguished.
12:13Like an honored role.
12:15Yeah, something that is honorable.
12:16A policeman is distinguished by his badge.
12:19It is important in Islam.
12:21It's important that the woman who has such valuable and such a great distinguished role,
12:29that she is also distinguished because of the value she has to society.
12:32Wow.
12:33Look at all religions.
12:34They have some type of modesty.
12:36Even Mother Mary in the Bible.
12:37Exactly.
12:38How is she just, she's pictured with the hijab on.
12:40Nuns these days, like you said, they're also dressed modestly.
12:43We thank God that he gave us the Qur'an and he gave us the messenger of Allah,
12:48Muhammad ﷺ, to give us that insight.
12:51The amount of people that I feel are going to have a total different perspective on women
12:55in Islam, that was so clear.
12:58So, thank you for that.
12:59What do you guys think?
