00:00Over the past few weeks, every rainfall has unleashed severe flash flooding across Lagos,
00:06Nigeria, submerging communities and disrupting lives.
00:10The Nigerian meteorological agency, NIMET, warned of intense rainfall from August 4th to 6th,
00:162025, predicting flash floods in Lagos and other southern states like Oyo, Ogun, Edo,
00:23Delta, and Blyosa. Affected areas in Lagos include Ikorodu, Okiokwe, Anjerin, Abuleko, Odetedo,
00:32Ijede, where homes and streets were flooded worsened by an unfinished drainage project in Ijede,
00:38according to residents. Leki, a low-lying coastal area, faced severe flooding due to its landscape,
00:46while Adjekonle's Agilete Axis and Part of Agege saw submerged roads and homes due to block drainage
00:53systems. Moshi, Okiari, Adeniji, Akponbon, and Isheri Bokno also reported significant flooding
01:01over 15 hours of rain on August 4th. NIMET's August 6th adversary forecast continued every rainfall
01:08through August 11th. With Lagos among 21 states at high rates due to saturated soils and rising river
01:15levels, the agency warns that Lagos could see more rainfall in 2025 than in 2024.
01:22Urging residents to stay vigilant The Lagos state government, led by Commissioner
01:28Tokumbawa Abe, has called for calm, emphasizing resilient infrastructure like drainage clearing
01:34and a 25-year drainage master plan. However, the volume of rain may overwhelm systems,
01:40especially in low-lying areas like Leki, Ikorodu, and Adjegole, where residents are urged to
01:47evacuate to higher grounds. Safety Tips
01:51Clear drainage system and canals near your home. Avoid dumping waste in water waste to prevent
01:58blockages. Keep sandbags ready to block water entry during emergencies. Relocate to higher grounds,
02:06even flood-prone areas. Avoid driving in heavy rain, secure loose objects, and disconnect electrical
02:13appliances. As climate change intensifies, Lagos faces growing challenges. The government is working
02:21on long-term solutions, but community action is critical. Stay safe and informed with update and
