Indian agencies race to rebuild bridge after Uttarakhand landslides
Indian authorities are constructing a temporary bridge to reconnect communities cut off by damaged roads in Uttarakhand, three days after sudden floods and landslides killed four people and left several missing in the Himalayan state. Workers from the Border Roads Organization (BRO), the State Disaster Response Force, and Indian Army personnel are collaborating to rebuild the bridge in Gangnani, a key link to the landslide-affected zone, officials said. Indian rescuers have deployed helicopters over the past two days to evacuate stranded residents from flood-hit areas in Uttarakhand, a state prone to frequent floods and landslides. Experts have partly attributed the rising frequency of such disasters to climate change.
