Sarah’s Oil is the remarkable true story of Sarah Rector, an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, who believes there is oil beneath the barren land she’s allotted and whose faith is proven right.

As greedy oil sharks close in, Sarah turns to her family, friends, and some Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land, eventually becoming among the nation's first female African American millionaires—at eleven years old.

Sarah's Oil stars Zachary Levi, Naya Desir-Johnson, Sonequa Martin-Green, Garret Dillahunt, Mel Rodriguez, Kenric Green, and Bridget Regan.

Inspired by the book “Searching for Sarah Rector” by Tonya Bolden. Sarah's Oil is directed by Cyrus Nowrasteh. Amazon MGM Studios will release the PG-rated film on November 7, 2025.

00:00You
00:09My name's Sarah Rector. The state gave me 160 acres on account of my ancestors and there's Olan. Well, how do you know that?
00:18God gave me the ears to hear it. Do you hear it, Blue?
00:23There's oceans down there!
00:25I got a load on my land and I'm looking for a partner to help me drill it up.
00:32Berts and Byron Smith at your service. I look for oil and I drill for it.
00:38I was singing 50-50. We should have our lawyers meet. That's my lawyer, the Texas handshake. There ain't nothing more binding.
00:45We're in Oklahoma. It goes double for Okies. Here we go.
00:55What's the damage?
00:57Well, this might be the end of the road.
00:59Dude, get them so easy!
01:00What's your guess? Is he gonna do the right thing?
01:02We shook hands.
01:03You may have to speak to him.
01:05I don't know what to say.
01:06God will give you the word.
01:07We need money out of your arm.
01:09But how are we gonna get him?
01:10Hi, I'm Sarah, Bert's business partner.
01:14Has Bert properly presented our proposition now?
01:16You said y'all need to put in your thousand dollars?
01:20We need two thousand. And we need it today.
01:22It's a partnership.
01:25Got some real nice mud here.
01:28Hoping you might test it first.
01:29I've never seen anything like it.
01:31That field you're sitting on could be the richest in all of Oklahoma.
01:38I'll give you 20 bucks an acre.
01:40I ain't selling!
01:41You want a war?
01:42You taught me things about my soul.
01:48Ain't nobody ever done that for me.
01:50Ain't nobody ever cared.
01:53We're dealing with some mighty devious folks over there.
01:56Then you need to fight for what's ours.
01:58Is that why I see dynamite?
01:59That's my life!
02:01No, it ain't!
02:02I would not do that if I did.
02:04You took the liberty of wiring up your will.
02:06Just in case you wanted to do something foolish.
02:09It's funny.
02:10When the land had only weeds and lizards, it was all mine.
02:13But when people found out there's all lines,
02:15they started thinking it's theirs.
02:19All I'm asking is to keep what's mine.
02:23Her name is Sarah Rector,
02:24and you're going by hearing a lot about her.
02:29You know, I've grown kind of fond of the kid.
02:31That's called a knight.
02:33It can help over your pieces?
02:34That's right. Look at you. You're learning.
02:36Just want to make sure before I take your train.
02:38Really?
02:40Nobody but you.
