00:00This Chinese embassy should not be allowed to go ahead at all.
00:03It will clearly be used as a centre for espionage activity,
00:07probably on a pan-European basis.
00:10The Chinese government have been pursuing Hong Kong dissidents in the UK.
00:15They've been running secret Chinese police stations here.
00:17They've even put a bounty on the head of some Hong Kong dissidents.
00:21We should not be facilitating this enormous embassy.
00:24The Chinese government has also engaged in industrial espionage
00:28on an enormous scale, taking intellectual property
00:30both from businesses and from universities.
00:34And this will simply make it easier for the Chinese government
00:36to pursue those activities.
00:38So I think actually Tower Hamlet's council in the past got it right
00:42when they refused this application
00:44and the government should now turn this down.
00:47I'm concerned that Keir Starmer is more interested in kowtowing to the Chinese
00:52to try and sort out his economic difficulties,
00:55but he should not be doing that at the expense of national security.
