The historic Moto Guzzi factory in Mandello del Lario, active for over a century, is being transformed into a cutting-edge, multifunctional space. Rooted between lake and mountains, the site is evolving into a symbol of the brand’s future—where heritage meets innovation, and tradition embraces technology.
This is more than a renovation: it’s the creation of a new global benchmark in motorcycle manufacturing. The new next-generation production lines, already operational, feature state-of-the-art technology. The full redevelopment will be completed by mid-2026, with a grand opening in September 2026.
I am delighted to send you the video “Made in Mandello” , which offers an exclusive preview of what we will see in a few months' time.
It captures, for the first time:
- The architectural vision of Greg Lynn (CEO of Piaggio Fast Forward), blending industrial design with futuristic aesthetics.
- The technological evolution of the production process, featuring state-of-the-art, automated next-generation assembly lines.
- The creation of a modern brand hub: museum, Motoplex Store, café, event spaces, and immersive visitor paths.
- The emotional and cultural significance of the site for Guzzistas and motorbike enthusiasts worldwide.
00:00This is a total reorganization of the factory. It's in such an amazing place
00:07with such an incredible history. The whole experience of the place is very
00:14unique. The red door is the same, but when I get to the factory, wow, this is
00:20state-of-the-art.
00:23I'm Greg Lin. I'm the designer of this Moto Guzzi campus and I'm also the CEO
00:29of Piaggio Fast Forward.
00:38Architecture, design, industrial products, they all come from some place and they
00:44come from people, but they really come from a place.
00:51In this place, you're not just going to see a hundred years of buildings, you're
00:57going to see the most state-of-the-art factory you've ever had a view into.
01:04When people come visit the factory, they're going to see it's been radically transformed.
01:08We've tried to keep the spirit of the place, but it's a totally new kind of experience here.
01:15Well, so we've built a piazza with all kinds of functions around the piazza.
01:20There are very few places where a visitor can come so close to the manufacture of a motorcycle
01:27in so many different ways, and that's the essence of this place.
01:32The new construction, we're leaning into the metallic industrial vocabulary of the Guzzi's.
01:43And a lot of the forms and finishes are the same forms and finishes you'll find on a bike.
01:51So we've been building here for two years.
01:53It's amazing this much has happened this fast and executed in such a good way.
02:01Right now we're here in the new museum.
02:04These cone shapes with the oculi are really meant to be a reference to historical architecture
02:11and to make a kind of large collective space for people that come here to see the historical bikes.
02:16When you're on the plaza looking at the museum, you really see things that look like the rocks of the mountains beyond.
02:31Over here is the motoplex, which is the showroom and store.
02:35And then over here on the left is the customer center and the bar.
02:39So these fins are for shade outside the bar.
02:45In between each one is a different function from sales offices to an owner's lounge to a vault.
02:54Right now we're at the mezzanine level, one level up from the plaza.
02:58There's view you can get down into the warehouse and also places to sit and have an amazing view of the mountains beyond.
03:06We're in the observation room overlooking the engine factory.
03:12This is a space for people to get a real inside view of how the bikes are built.
03:18It's also a place for tours where you can learn about the motorcycles and the technology.
03:23These assembly lines are brand new and they're state of the art in terms of how the engines move, the ergonomics for the workers.
03:39The conveyor belt also has totally transformed operations here.
03:43So you're not loading and trucking things around from building to building.
03:47They seamlessly move around with automation.
03:49Right now we're standing between the museum and the final assembly space and beyond you'll see a pedestrian bridge for people that want to go on a tour and get a view into the final assembly space.
04:06Not only is the engine plant and all of the equipment in it brand new, but also the final assembly plant is completely new state of the art technology.
04:17This isn't a place that you could give an easy name to, it's a factory, a living factory, it's a museum, it's a showroom.
04:29Believe it or not, we'll be ready for Gootsie days in September of 2026 when we'll have the grand opening.
04:38I just say it's very unique. It's a unique vision of the leadership of the company. It's a unique place and it's a unique brand.
