00:00On August 6, in addition to the Feast of the Transfiguration,
00:04The Church honors a little-known but essential pope in the history of Christian unity,
00:10Saint Ormizdas, man of peace, dialogue and firmness.
00:15He worked to reconcile Rome and Constantinople in a time of deep division.
00:22Ormizdas was born around 450, probably in Frosinone, in Latium.
00:28He was first a layman, married and father of a child who would himself become pope under the name of Sylverius.
00:37After the death of his wife, Ormizdas devoted himself entirely to the Church and entered the holy orders.
00:45Elected pope in 514, he inherited a chaotic situation.
00:51For nearly 35 years, the Christian world has been torn apart by the Acas schism.
00:57A theological and political conflict between Rome and Constantinople over the nature of Christ and the role of the Emperor in the Church.
01:08Ormizdas yields neither to imperial pressure nor to the temptation of easy anathema.
01:15He pursues a policy of firm but charitable dialogue.
01:19He wrote a document of clear faith, known as the Formula of Ormizdas, which he addressed to the Eastern bishops.
01:28In 519, after years of negotiations, union was reestablished between Rome and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
01:38A victory for peace and truth.
01:41This reconciliation will be a major milestone in the history of the Church.
01:47Ormizdas would rule the Church until his death in 523.
01:53He is buried in St. Peter's in Rome.
01:55His memory remains alive as an example of a pope-pastor,
02:00combining doctrinal fidelity and diplomatic patience.
02:04He is also a father figure, both spiritual, through his role as head of the Church,
02:11and biological, since he is the only known pope whose son also became pope.
02:18This bond of blood and faith makes his story profoundly human.
02:23Today, Saint Ormizdas is a model for all those who seek to reconcile divisions,
02:30to build bridges between peoples, between churches, between hearts.
02:37While August 6 also celebrates the light of the transfiguration,
02:42Saint Ormizdas reminds us that peace cannot be decreed,
02:47it is built in humility, truth and prayer.
02:53Let us pray to Saint Ormizdas for all those who have the mission of reconciliation,
02:57to unite, to pacify in the Church and in the world.
03:02Let us pray to Saint Ormizdas
