00:00Crime, conspiracy, cults, serial killers, and murder, all things that I love to consume,
00:06and I know you do too, you sweet, twisted, beautiful, intellectually-minded freak.
00:12And today, today's a rough one, okay?
00:16A lot, which is kind of concerning, a lot of you requested I go over the Hello Kitty case.
00:23Now, I've heard of this here and there.
00:25I hadn't heard all the details, and my lord, is it grim.
00:31So all the trigger warnings there, from torture to hauntings, this case shocked all of Hong Kong and the world.
00:39And they called it one of the worst and most horrible sides of humanity ever seen.
00:43So without further ado, let's unbuckle our seatbelts, go Mach 5 down the highway, slam on the brakes,
00:48and bust through this windshield into this gruesome case together.
00:55So born in 1976 in Shenzhen, China, Fan Man Yi was a troubled child.
01:12It began with her living with her parents, who decided to abandon her as a child,
01:16leaving her to end up in an all-girls orphanage in Matawai.
01:20And in the time she was there, she would never be adopted.
01:23And with an age limit set on taking care of young girls, she was sent into the world alone at the age of 15.
01:30I didn't know how to tie my shoes at 15, you know?
01:34And as expected, it was an extremely hard life living out on the streets.
01:38She experienced the worst type of things.
01:41And eventually, she would get herself into the wrong crowd and get addicted to drugs.
01:46And this habit would lead her to rely on them, as it happens with drugs.
01:51And the only way to afford said drugs is with money.
01:54Therefore, she had to get a job.
01:56And that led her into falling into desperation, which led her into Lady of the Nighting, if you know what I mean.
02:03YouTube really doesn't like me using literally any type of terminology that involves Lady of the Nighting for some reason,
02:10which I think is weird because it's a very real thing.
02:13But anyway, and eventually, at 21 years old, she was able to get a job at a brothel called Romance Villa in Shamshui Po,
02:21where she would be able to pay for her addiction.
02:24So right out the gate, I mean, she started off in a terrible situation,
02:27went through another terrible situation, which was being in an orphanage,
02:30and then was kicked down under the street at 15 years old.
02:33And not that she is the villain at any point in the story, but she is the victim.
02:38And I feel like so many victims we see of serial killers or regular killers or just people wanting to take advantage of women specifically,
02:46often come from this lifestyle.
02:49And it's just, it's heartbreaking.
02:51But that is exactly what would happen to Fan Man Yi.
02:53But anyway, she would go on to work at this brothel, and eventually, she would cozy up to one of her clients,
03:00Ong Chi Yuen, and get married to said client in 1996.
03:05And this guy was a piece of shit, okay?
03:08He was not stable at all, and to boot, he was also a drug addict.
03:13And eventually, she would give birth to a son two years into her relationship in November of 1998.
03:19And their relationship was not great, as you could probably guess.
03:23Both of them were addicted to drugs.
03:26They had quite an abusive relationship as well,
03:29with neighbors constantly reporting loud shouting and arguments.
03:33And the child, of course, of them doing drugs and yelling at each other,
03:37would be crying and screaming,
03:39so the neighbors would constantly send noise complaints because of them.
03:43So it was a less than peaceful environment, as you can imagine.
03:46And realizing this was no place to raise her son,
03:49and her habits were getting in the way of her child,
03:52she decided she wanted to turn her life around.
03:54So she quit drugs and Lady of the Nighting.
03:57Two very dangerous things in her life that didn't benefit her son in any way,
04:01and decided to work at a different place.
04:04And she would eventually get a job as a hostess at a nightclub called Empress Karaoke Club.
04:09Love karaoke.
04:09And to ensure that her son was truly safe,
04:12she would leave her piece of shit, drug-addicted husband,
04:16and fly solo to take care of her child.
04:18But although that she was living a much safer life now,
04:21she was not making as much money,
04:23and was really struggling financially to help her baby.
04:27And herself.
04:27And it wasn't until about a year later, in 1997,
04:31that she became close with another one of her clients,
04:33named Chan Man Lok, a 34-year-old man.
04:36And Chan was not the best person to be friends with,
04:39if you were wanting to turn your life around.
04:42And Fan would begin to fall back into her old life and drug addiction.
04:47And after a while, Chan realized that they had a lot in common as well.
04:51Fan was a Lady of the Night and drug addict,
04:54and Chan just so happened to be a pimp and a drug dealer.
04:58So just a...
04:59match made in hell, basically.
05:02And eventually, after spending so much time with Chan,
05:04she would become very familiar with his crew as well.
05:07Particularly, his two henchmen who were beneath him,
05:10named Liang Xing Cho, aged 26,
05:14and Liang Wei Lun, aged 21.
05:17And Chan wasn't just any pimp.
05:19He was a straight-up gangster, okay?
05:22Being a part of the Wo Xing Wo triad.
05:25A very long-standing gang in Hong Kong.
05:28But despite the frequent business,
05:30money was still tight.
05:31And Fan was hanging out with gangsters,
05:33who were throwing money like no tomorrow.
05:36And she started to become really used to that,
05:39and she just wanted more and more money.
05:41But the next thing that she would do would change her life entirely.
05:45And it would change her life for the worst.
05:47So on one of their drug binges in 1999,
05:50Fan stole Chan's wallet with 4,000 Hong Kong dollars in it,
05:54which was about $500 USD.
05:57And she would do this because she was struggling with money,
05:59and with these guys throwing money at her constantly,
06:02she was starting to get used to having a little bit more money.
06:05And she was so desperate to have more money
06:07that she thought that this was some sort of solution.
06:10But it just made things so much worse.
06:13And Chan, of course, would find out that he was $500 or 4,000 Hong Kong dollars short, obviously.
06:20And the only person who he could blame was the girl that he was drug binging with,
06:25and the only person that he was around when the money had disappeared.
06:29Fan.
06:29So he would then send his goons to contact her,
06:32stating that she needed to pay the money back.
06:35Which, I mean, she did steal the money,
06:37and paying him back, I mean, that's fine.
06:39That's all civil.
06:40Nothing necessarily wrong there.
06:41The only wrong thing is that she stole money.
06:43But it gets worse than that.
06:44Because since she went behind Chan's back and stole his money,
06:48he kind of wanted to make an example of her.
06:51So he said,
06:52you know what, you also need to pay a fee of $10,000 Hong Kong dollars around $1,300 USD,
06:58which is more than double than what she stole.
07:00And this was considered interest for stealing his money, basically.
07:04And the intention behind that, not only making an example of her,
07:07was that now he could force her to work under him to pay off this debt.
07:12And this amount of money to recuperate would take a very long time for Fan,
07:16especially if she was pooling it into her child and drug habits.
07:20So she would eventually pay that initial $500 or $4,000 Hong Kong dollars back to Chan,
07:25but the rest would take a long time, and Chan was getting impatient.
07:29Obviously, Chan wanted Fan to learn a lesson.
07:33The lesson being not to steal from someone who has been so gracious to you,
07:38and who also had a reputation to uphold as well.
07:42Therefore, Chan would send his two henchmen,
07:44Liang Wei Lun and Liang Xingqiu, to her flat,
07:48which was located in Liyu Estate on March 17th, 1999.
07:52However, it wasn't just the two goons that Chan would send to grab Fan,
07:57but also a 14-year-old girl named Ah Fong,
08:01who will be important later in the story.
08:04So they would take Fan from her apartment,
08:06and take her to a different apartment on number 31 Granville Road, Shim Sa Sui.
08:12And this was a very large apartment complex with over five bedrooms.
08:16And it was rented by Chan, not owned.
08:19However, he had full access to it due to his rent.
08:21And the original idea was to teach Fan a lesson,
08:24forcing her to work completely under Chan until he was satisfied,
08:28pimping her out to any man who would have her.
08:30However, before she could get back to work,
08:33they would begin to torture her.
08:35And this is where all the trigger warnings apply, so just a heads up.
08:39Chan, like I said, had changed his mind in getting her to be a Lady of the Night for him,
08:44believing he should make an example of any of the girls who dare cross him.
08:48Therefore, she would instead be tortured in this abandoned building,
08:52muffling her screams with a dirty rag.
08:54And her torture was absolutely brutal.
08:58Like, there is a special dark place in hell for the people that did this to her.
09:03And it ranged from physical to psychological abuse to eventual SA.
09:08So supposedly, she was beaten with metal bars until her bones were all fractured.
09:14And she would also be tied up with metal wires that dug into her skin,
09:19and they would continually beat her all through the day and all through the night,
09:23just taking turns.
09:24And the torture would just progressively get worse and worse.
09:27These people were incredibly sadistic,
09:31and would just experiment, essentially, on her in different ways to torture her.
09:36She would be strangled with a metal wire until she couldn't breathe.
09:41They would whip her as well.
09:42And she would often dive in and out of consciousness throughout these ordeals,
09:46with the pain just being so severe.
09:49And to ensure the pain was even worse,
09:52these pieces of shit would put chili powder into her open wounds,
09:58just to make it hurt more, just because they're spawns of Satan.
10:03They would use other torture methods as well,
10:06such as burning her with lighters.
10:08And even on one occasion, Chan forced Fong to eat his own feces.
10:16Are you okay?
10:17I mean, nobody's okay.
10:18None of this is okay.
10:19But, like, this just, this poor,
10:22poor, poor girl.
10:24Like, so awful.
10:26But in short, all of the people that were involved with Chan
10:29would take part in this torture against Fong.
10:32And the young girl, the 14-year-old Laming Fong,
10:36known as Ah Fong as a pseudonym,
10:38would also reportedly take part in the torture towards Fong.
10:42Now, just a little bit about Ah Fong.
10:44She was one of the girls that was currently being groomed by Chan.
10:48So, I mean, in this situation,
10:50I'm going to safely assume she didn't really have a choice.
10:54She sees another woman that went against this person that she's with also.
11:00She doesn't want to be going through that.
11:01So, she was, I'm going to safely assume,
11:05forced to go through this.
11:07Just awful.
11:08And on one occasion,
11:09she would recollect seeing Chan kick Fong in the head over 50 times.
11:15And Ah Fong then also kicked her in the head,
11:17like, joining in, essentially.
11:19And during all of this,
11:21just all of this horrible pain and suffering,
11:25Fong was forced to say she enjoyed it the whole time.
11:28And they would say that she had to say this in order for it to stop,
11:32but they would often just continue to do it and torture her anyway,
11:36and in more severe ways.
11:37And eventually, as you can expect,
11:39Fong did succumb to her torture,
11:42surviving around a month of continuous torture
11:46on either April 14th or April 15th, 1999.
11:50That is the day that she died.
11:52And this would spark an argument between them,
11:55believing that one of the torturers didn't watch over her hard enough,
12:00and that she probably got access to methamphetamine to overdose on it.
12:04Which again, we don't know for sure.
12:06Either way, they now had a corpse that they needed to get rid of,
12:10and they had a sinister idea of how to do that.
12:14Just more, more trigger warnings of getting rid of a body.
12:18Just putting it out there.
12:20So they decided they needed to get rid of this body.
12:23So they would drag Fong's body to an empty bathtub.
12:26They would then grab a hacksaw and begin to cut her up into small pieces.
12:31Therefore, making it easier not only to relocate, but also get rid of.
12:36However, you can't just throw a body in the trash.
12:39The smell will lead others to investigate and throw off their entire operation.
12:44So they decided to do something else.
12:46They would boil each body part, two at a time, in a big pot.
12:52And by boiling the body, it would kill the DNA and germs,
12:56and be easier to get rid of, leaving little trace.
12:59And this pot and stove that they boiled Fong's body on
13:03was the same place that they would cook food that they would eat as well.
13:07Which is just sickening.
13:09But their sadistic thoughts somehow did not end there.
13:13Because they had extra plans for her head, specifically.
13:17So due to boiling body parts, most of the time,
13:21everything would fall off the bone,
13:23leaving just the bone exposed, essentially.
13:26So after the head was completely boiled,
13:28they would take the skull and do something completely unthinkable.
13:33Supposedly, the home was decorated with a decent amount of Hello Kitty memorabilia.
13:38So these insane f***s, instead of throwing out the head,
13:44would take the skull of Fong and grab a Hello Kitty mermaid doll
13:49and remove the Hello Kitty mermaid doll's head.
13:52And then stuff Fong's skull inside the doll
13:56and sew it back onto the Hello Kitty mermaid's body.
14:00So Fong's skull was now inside the Hello Kitty mermaid doll.
14:05And they would just set it back on the shelf like nothing ever happened.
14:09And this is where the story of the name of this case comes from.
14:12So a few weeks would go by after this whole f***ed up event.
14:18And they seem to have gotten away with their crime.
14:21However, the child in our story, the 14-year-old child,
14:25Ah Fong, felt different from what she had experienced
14:28and felt urged to go to the police.
14:30Now why, do you ask, would she just randomly decide to go to the police,
14:34especially with the danger of Chan finding out anything, you know?
14:38But it was because she experienced some paranormal activity.
14:42On May 24th, 1999, Ah Fong would go to the police
14:45and tell them that she had been haunted for days and nights,
14:49even in her dreams,
14:50by a woman who was bound with electrical wile
14:53and who was tortured to death.
14:56Sound familiar?
14:57And the police would just blow her off,
14:58thinking that she was just a teenager
14:59with a very descriptive imagination
15:02and they wouldn't think anything of it.
15:04However, she would clarify that this ghostly presence
15:07she was feeling was due to her involvement
15:10in the murder of this exact woman
15:12that was currently haunting her.
15:14That'll do it.
15:15And willing to show them everything that had happened,
15:17she would do so if, in exchange,
15:20she was granted protection.
15:22So again, that just kind of coincides with
15:23she was just afraid that entire time
15:26that she was living in under Chan,
15:27which is, again, just so incredibly sad.
15:30And she would then begin to describe
15:31everything that happened,
15:33everything that we already spoke about.
15:36And completely shocked,
15:37the police would get up
15:38and immediately go run down to the flat,
15:40to which a Hello Kitty doll was sitting on the bed.
15:43And inside the Hello Kitty doll,
15:45the police would find a skull
15:47and a ton of rotting insects as well.
15:49And all that was left of Thanh was a few teeth
15:53and a fridge with internal organs stuffed in it as well,
15:56and the skull that was retrieved from the doll.
15:59And the apartment and living conditions
16:01she was left in were disgusting
16:03and absolutely mortifying.
16:05Trash was left all over the floor
16:07and it was just a decrepit place.
16:10So the police would try to be swift with their arrests,
16:13knowing how serious this crime was
16:14and his connection to the triads.
16:16The arrest was an absolute must.
16:19And Chan was just living it up,
16:21absolutely clueless to the events
16:23that were about to transpire.
16:24He would be at his home with his wife.
16:28Oh, wait.
16:29What?
16:30Spending quality time with a newborn child.
16:35Just letting that sink in.
16:37And that is when a SWAT raid team
16:39would come in early morning on May 28th
16:42and rip his dumb fucking bitch ass out of there.
16:46And this arrest would be announced in the news
16:48and the paper and Liang Wai Lun fled to mainland China
16:50before he could be arrested as well.
16:53However, he would be later caught by police
16:54on the 14th of February, 2000,
16:56after irregularities in his passport were found.
16:59And he would then be sent back to Hong Kong
17:01for the 17th of February trial.
17:03And the Yang Qingqiu was put on Interpol's most wanted list,
17:06so he was sent back to Hong Kong as well
17:08to bring justice to Fan Man Yi, finally.
17:11So on October 20th, 2000, the trial would finally begin.
17:15Ah Fong would testify in this trial
17:17in exchange for her immunity.
17:18And during this trial, Chan and his accomplices
17:20denied intending to kill Fan.
17:24Okay.
17:24Stating that they were just meaning to rough her up.
17:29Tell you what, you come over to my place,
17:30I'll rough you up, all right?
17:31However, they did not deny the fact
17:33that they dismembered her body in such a sadistic way
17:37and also hid the remains.
17:39Make it make sense, you know?
17:41Chan would be the one to cut off Fan's head.
17:44They would later learn.
17:45And Ah Fong would admit more to help the case.
17:48She stated that after they found her deceased corpse,
17:51they would beat it before intending to dismember it.
17:54Why?
17:54Why?
17:55Why?
17:56For what?
17:57And the court was obviously f***ing mortified.
18:00And the prosecutor describing it
18:02as one of the worst cases in Hong Kong's history.
18:06And the defendant's faces while the crimes were stated
18:09showed a complete lack of remorse.
18:11Especially from Chan,
18:12who was just stone-faced the entire time.
18:15Just punchable-faced the entire time.
18:17And apparently, during the trial,
18:19Liang Wai Lun's sister experienced a mental breakdown.
18:22And his brother would smash and break a court door
18:25when the guilty verdict was called.
18:27And unfortunately,
18:29they were only charged with manslaughter
18:32and unlawful imprisonment.
18:36Make it make sense.
18:41So they were charged with life imprisonment,
18:44somehow with the possibility of parole.
18:47And then,
18:48the men who were examined at Castle Peak Hospital
18:51and Sulam Hospital
18:52described the trio of men as remorseless,
18:56even though the court had not learned of a case
18:59as depraved, brutal, and vicious.
19:01And what's absolutely mind-f***ed boggling to me
19:06is that Liang Shin Cho was actually let out early in 2011,
19:10despite being sentenced to life.
19:13And after his 18 years,
19:14he was completely freed.
19:16However,
19:16he was then charged again
19:18and put in jail in 2022
19:19for indecently assaulting a 10-year-old girl
19:23for 12 months.
19:26Don't let monsters out of jail
19:28because monsters remain monsters.
19:32And the media was obviously shocked,
19:34to say the least,
19:35horrified that there were people so cruel in the world,
19:38let alone in their backyard.
19:40And they were glad that the vermin,
19:42at the time at least,
19:43were off the street
19:44and locked away from the public.
19:46And TVB reporters themselves even felt sick,
19:49describing the trial as
19:50crazy and scary.
19:52And many, many articles have been written about this,
19:54but many have been lost in time.
19:56However, two movies would be made about the case.
19:59One called
20:00Human Pork Chop,
20:02which...
20:04No words, basically.
20:07And another called
20:09There is a Secret
20:10In My Soup.
20:12The titles alone are
20:14tone-deaf and terrible,
20:16but, I mean,
20:17this is from a different time,
20:18from a completely different place
20:20where I'm from,
20:20so I don't want to...
20:22I don't...
20:22I don't have a lot to say about that.
20:24But if they're anything
20:26like what actually happened,
20:27I'm sure they're
20:28extremely horrifying and brutal.
20:30Even the movie art
20:31for the cover alone
20:32is pretty horrifying.
20:34But the aftermath of all of this
20:35finally let Fawn have her rest.
20:38Thank God.
20:39And the rest of her corpse
20:40was burned and cremated
20:42on March 26, 2000.
20:44And the apartment building,
20:45now linked with this horrifying murder,
20:47was eventually demolished
20:48in September of 2012
20:50and has since been rebuilt
20:51into a hotel named
20:52Souravit.
20:54Souravit?
20:54I'm not sure.
20:55In 2016.
20:56And it's still heavily debated
20:58whether these people
20:59got what they deserved.
21:01I don't think they did.
21:02But no doubt,
21:02if this was committed today,
21:04there would have been
21:05a lot more serious
21:06of a punishment,
21:07at least I didn't hope.
21:09However,
21:09what we can all agree on
21:10is that this murder
21:11was completely brutal.
21:13And all that's left
21:14to remember Fawn by
21:15is this story
21:17and also a necklace
21:18that was found
21:19at the apartment
21:19where she died in
21:21that was actually given
21:22to her son
21:23after the fact.
21:24So at least he's able
21:25to have something
21:26from his mom.
21:27But man,
21:28this case broke me
21:30pretty good.
21:31Just the brutality
21:33and inhuman
21:36people involved.
21:39I just,
21:40it's hard to wrap
21:40my head around.
21:41I mean,
21:42I know I talk about
21:43a lot of these cases
21:44and can remain,
21:46you know,
21:46somewhat stoic,
21:47but this one was,
21:48this one was hard
21:48to get through.
21:49Anyway,
21:49I just want to say
21:50thank you for watching
21:51the video.
