The name "Macpherson" comes from the Gaelic Mac a' Phearsain, meaning "Son of the Parson." This refers to Muireach, a priest in the time of King Alexander III, whose family became the Macphersons. By the 14th century, the clan had established itself in Badenoch, in the Scottish Highlands, where they played a key role in defending their land and heritage. They were brave warriors, especially known for their loyalty during the Jacobite risings, standing with Prince Charles Edward Stuart in the 1745 rebellion.
The Macpherson tartan is a bold and striking tartan pattern. It features deep reds, dark greens, and navy blues, intersected with fine black lines. This rich pattern symbolises the clan’s strength, honour, and unshakeable roots in the Highlands.
