00:01Sir, I can actually get to him easier than me.
00:07I give glory to the Most High God,
00:10who made the heavens and the earth,
00:16that his chosen people,
00:18from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, I speak.
00:23Now, you guys, I like,
00:26this is a new thing.
00:30This thing is not new, what you saw.
00:32I'm not on either side.
00:35I'm on the Most High side.
00:37But you have to understand
00:39how our people feel.
00:44Because we were brought here in slave ships
00:47over 400 years ago.
00:52And we were treated like animals, like cattle,
00:57hung on trees,
01:02family separated,
01:05our heritage taken from us,
01:08that we didn't know who we were as a people.
01:11Now, I say, you act like this is a new thing.
01:17This violence that you see out here.
01:20Well, look over the 400 years
01:23of all the violence that was perpetrated on our people.
01:27Over the 400 years,
01:33look what you did to our people.
01:37But yet,
01:39you know, it's not over with.
01:41No, it's not over with.
01:42That's the thing.
01:43You want to sweep our history
01:46under the table.
01:49But you don't sweep
01:51the Osmalti Jews
01:53with the history of fame under the table.
01:56All the things that you did
01:58to the other races of people,
02:01you don't sweep that under the table.
02:03But when it comes down to
02:05the black Negroes,
02:08we can always sweep
02:10what happened to us
02:12under the table.
02:15So, I'm telling you right now,
02:19the most high
02:19is looking at all of this.
02:22That's why, according to
02:24Deuteronomy 28,
02:27chapter 28,
02:28chapter 29,
02:30and chapter 30,
02:31for all you ministers,
02:33you need to read it.
02:34Because we're living
02:36in revelations times.
02:38And it tells you,
02:39what was done to my people
02:41are going to happen to you.
02:46Robert, I,
02:47look,
02:48I want to thank you
02:49for one thing out the gate
02:50is that I said this at the start.
02:53I don't think anybody
02:54think I planted Robert's question.
02:56We didn't plant the questions tonight.
02:58We are promised
02:59an open and candid conversation.
03:02Sometimes that makes us
03:02uncomfortable.
03:04I felt a little uncomfortable
03:05as you asked that question.
03:06But that's what you should expect
03:08of your leaders
03:08to be able to engage with you.
03:10So, let me say a couple words.
03:12First of all,
03:13the pride of this city.
03:14Christopher,
03:14you mentioned it
03:15at the outset.
03:17Cincinnati was the end
03:18of the Underground Railroad.
03:20Have we been perfect
03:21for all of our national history?
03:22Of course we're not perfect.
03:23In fact,
03:25we're destined
03:27to never be perfect
03:28because we're not a nation
03:29comprised of gods.
03:30We're a nation comprised
03:31of human beings.
03:32And we're a nation founded
03:33on a set of ideals.
03:35So that means
03:35you will always be imperfect
03:37because nobody ever
03:39criticizes China
03:40or Iran
03:41or whatever
03:42for hypocrisy
03:43because to be
03:45a hypocritical nation,
03:47you had to have
03:47ideals in the first place.
03:49So here's what I'll tell you,
03:50Robert.
03:50Am I going to say
03:51America was perfect
03:52for every chapter
03:52of our national history?
03:53Of course not.
03:54We're a nation founded
03:55on ideals.
03:56We're a nation founded
03:56on human beings
03:57who will always fall
03:58short of those ideals.
03:59But I would rather
03:59live in a country
04:00that has ideals
04:01and falls short of them
04:03than to live in a country
04:04with no ideals at all.
04:06And this is,
04:07and I'll give you a chance
04:08to respond in a moment.
04:11Do I think we should sweep
04:12the parts of our history
04:13that make us uncomfortable
04:14under the rug?
04:15No.
04:16Just as I don't think
04:16we should sweep
04:17last week's history
04:18under the rug.
04:19No.
04:20We have to confront
04:21what is true,
04:22not just when it makes us
04:24uncomfortable,
04:25but precisely when it does not.
04:27But the question is
04:27how we move forward.
04:29Because the only,
04:30the only part that
04:31lands with me
04:33a little bit differently
04:34is when you say
04:35our people,
04:36when I hear that,
04:38I'm thinking about
04:39our people as
04:40everybody in this room.
04:43I see black,
04:44white,
04:45brown,
04:45man,
04:46woman.
04:47Who's all our people?
04:50America is our people.
04:52Ohio is our people.
04:54Cincinnati is our people.
04:56And I believe it is
04:57the God-given right
04:58of every person
04:58to be able to live
04:59a life free of violence,
05:00to be able to speak
05:01their mind in the open
05:03without fear of retaliation.
05:05And may I even say
05:06if you're a hard-working
05:06American to go into
05:07your city,
05:08whether you're black or white,
05:09without fear of actually
05:10being assaulted
05:11or battered,
05:12that ought to be
05:13the birthright
05:14of every American.
05:15That's what I want
05:16for our people.
05:17Robert,
05:18and I appreciate you
05:19asking that question.
05:21Let me just give
05:22a few other people
05:23a chance
05:23we'll come back to
05:24if we...
05:24Why don't you give me...
05:25We'll be very brief
05:26and then I want to give
05:27some other people
05:28a chance.
05:28Let me say this.
05:30It tells you
05:31in the scriptures
05:32that the people
05:33who put us
05:34in captivity
05:35was going to have
05:36a perpetual
05:37hatred against us.
05:40It says
05:41in the scriptures
05:42that they would not
05:43pity the young
05:45or the old.
05:47Who do I listen to?
05:48I listen to the most high.
05:49I don't listen to man
05:51because man
05:52is not who
05:53saves me.
05:55So,
05:56it tells you
05:57in the scriptures
05:57of perpetual hatred
05:59and that's what
06:00I see every day.
06:01You can go on YouTube
06:02all around the nation
06:04and what do you see?
06:06Our people
06:07getting crucified.
06:08But nobody
06:09steps up
06:09and say anything
06:10about it.
06:11But when something
06:12happens like this,
06:14it's a big uproar.
06:15Well, to my understanding,
06:16the gentleman
06:18was the one
06:19who cast
06:20the first stone.
06:21And I think
06:22you have
06:23a stand your ground
06:24law here
06:25in Ohio
06:27saying that
06:28you can defend
06:30yourself
06:30even
06:31with a weapon.
06:33And anybody
06:34with you,
06:35anybody
06:36with you
06:37can
06:38defend
06:39also.
06:40I'm done.
06:41Thank you, Robert.
06:43I appreciate it.
06:44All I will say is
06:45on the matter
06:46of history,
06:46right?
06:47We're leaving
06:48the facts
06:49of last week.
06:49I kept a promise
06:51I'm going to make it.
06:51We're going to
06:52leave that to the
06:53court system
06:53to adjudicate.
06:54We all saw
06:55what we saw
06:55on the internet.
06:56But what I will
06:57say to you is
06:58we had a first
06:59question about
07:00the Christian
07:02backdrop of support.
07:03The next question
07:04of quoting scripture.
07:05I will say that
07:05the ultimate grace
07:07over a long
07:08period of time
07:09lies in our
07:10ability to forgive
07:11and to move on
07:12as well.
07:13Firmly.
07:14And I think
07:15that's where
07:15it's going to take
07:16to bring our
07:16country and
07:17our people
07:18together.
07:19Christopher,
07:19you want to
07:19say a word
07:20as we get
07:21over here
07:21to the next
07:22question?
07:22We'll come to
07:22you, sir,
07:23right after
07:23Christopher.
07:23I just want
07:24to respond
07:25to Robert,
07:26who's a
07:27friend,
07:28to share
07:30with you
07:31that African
07:33Americans
07:33have always
07:34had a very
07:36high standard.
07:39African
07:40Americans in
07:41our country
07:41have always
07:43had a very
07:45high standard.
07:47Our people,
07:49even in
07:49poverty,
07:51operated at
07:52the highest
07:53level of
07:54dignity.
07:54An example
07:55would be the
07:55Tuskegee Airmen.
07:58And so what I
07:59want to share
08:00with all of
08:01you is what
08:03happened 10 or
08:0412 days ago
08:05was not our
08:06best moment.
08:08It was not.
08:11We cannot
08:12operate eye
08:13for an eye
08:14and tooth
08:15for a tooth.
08:16It is not
08:17how we operate.
08:20Punching people
08:21in the face
08:22and knocking
08:23Holly out,
08:24Holly did not
08:26deserve what
08:27happened to her.
08:30Those men
08:31operating
08:34with a
08:35WWE
08:35knees
08:36and jumping
08:37off on
08:38them
08:38and slamming
08:39their bodies
08:40into them
08:41was not
08:42our best
08:42moment.
08:43It wasn't
08:44our best
08:45moment as
08:46Americans.
08:47It wasn't
08:47our best
08:48moment as
08:49a people.
08:50We must
08:51own that.
08:53And so I
08:53just want to
08:54say to my
08:55friend Robert
08:55that this
08:58country has
08:59never been
08:59perfect for
09:00our people.
09:01I acknowledge
09:02the pain.
09:04This is why
09:04we chose
09:05this location
09:06here by the
09:08Ohio River
09:09where our
09:10people came
09:11over that
09:12river for
09:13freedom.
09:14And let me
09:15share with you
09:16brother,
09:17white abolitionists
09:18all up and down
09:1950 took care
09:21of us and
09:23made sure
09:24that we had
09:25freedom with
09:27great sacrifice.
09:28white, my
09:28point to you
09:29is this, in
09:30this moment, in
09:31this moment, I
09:33want to give a
09:33voice, paying it
09:35forward for
09:36those white
09:37abolitionists who
09:38took care of
09:39us.
09:40It's now for
09:41us in this
09:41moment to be
09:42able to look at
09:43humanity and
09:44say what
09:45happened in
09:46downtown
09:47Cincinnati was
09:48wrong.
09:49And we don't
09:50want to accept
09:50it.
09:51We don't want to
09:52make an excuse
09:52for it.
09:53We don't want
09:53to find a way
09:54to say somebody
09:56did something to
09:57me that caused
09:58me to hurt
09:59people the way
09:59they did.
10:00There's violence
10:01is never the
10:02answer.
10:09We love you.
10:14We love you.
10:15That's it.
10:16The most high
10:17My name is Guy
10:18Harper and I do
10:20not agree with
10:20this man's
10:21sentiment.
