00:00We are here sharing our culture with the indigenous people of Australia and everybody
00:10else here at Garma.
00:14The immersion into the culture here has been more than I think we could have expected and
00:19the hospitality and the warmth they've taken us in as family and it's been an enriching
00:24experience and I think it's one that will last a lifetime and we're just so blessed
00:28and fortunate to been invited to share our culture and our dances and songs with everyone.
00:40Coming over here, I didn't know what to expect.
00:42My first time here, I heard about it, but I never got to see it.
00:46And so by witnessing all that, I'm beyond words.
00:50Even just performing here on this ground, this place here is powerful.
00:53I can feel it because as an indigenous people, we're close to nature.
00:57There's ground, trees.
00:58It has a big, big representation, like there's power here.
01:04This is a women's northern traditional style outfit.
01:07It is all beadwork and we've got thunderbolts because when we dance, our traditional dances,
01:12we dance for rain.
01:14My regalia is a representation of my ancestors because long ago they used to be warriors and
01:22me coming out as a veteran, I present myself in that way.
01:25Everything that I put on is protection and correlation to my tribe, which is Lakota and Navajo.
01:33Everything has a meaning behind it and everything that's put on me has a blessing with it.
01:38What I see here is a preservation of culture that is evolved, but finally people are getting
01:46to see it and it's being able to be appreciated and that is something that the bridges that
01:52we are building culturally from the United States, our traditional people to the traditional
01:57people here.
