00:00Happy, I've known you for 30 years. You're like a son to me.
00:03How much you need?
00:04300 grand.
00:06Good luck tomorrow. Hit him straight.
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo.
00:10And today, we're counting down our picks for the funniest Easter eggs, callbacks, and other hidden gems
00:16in the hole-in-one Adam Sandler legacy sequel, Happy Gilmore 2.
00:20How's work going, boys?
00:22I gotta say, Pop, I'm really loving the road crew.
00:26I'm killing it over at the car wash.
00:30Number 10, Happy's SNL haircut.
00:34Oh, and I hosted Saturday Night Live a few times. That was nice.
00:38The Spice Girls are here. Maroon 5 is here. The Weeknd is here.
00:44So stick around. We'll be right back.
00:45In the opening moments of Happy Gilmore 2, the beleaguered former golf pro brings viewers up to speed
00:51in what he's been up to in the nearly three decades since his left-field 1996 Tour Championship victory
00:58over Shooter McGavin.
00:59Contrary to what fans might expect, Happy went on to win five more championships.
01:05After our fourth boy in four years, Virginia had an idea for an endorsement.
01:10Trojan. Kids are great.
01:14In moderation.
01:16What are you doing?
01:17God damn!
01:18As a result of his newfound celebrity, Happy is asked to host Saturday Night Live, which
01:24is not so coincidentally Sandler's alma mater.
01:28And each successive hosting appearance is dated by which musical guest Happy shouts out
01:33for his third hosting go-round.
01:35Happy mentions that The Weeknd is the musical guest.
01:38Well, sporting the same haircut that the Canadian superstar did for much of his career.
01:43I can feel my face when I'm with you.
01:48But I love it.
01:50But I love it.
01:52Number 9.
01:53The Happy Gilmore Video Game Experience.
01:56In case you hadn't already guessed it, Happy really took every opportunity to cash in on
02:14his newfound fame and success.
02:16At one point during the montage that opens Happy Gilmore 2, Sandler's character mentions
02:21that in direct response to the success of the PGA Tour video game series, an unspecified
02:26developer engineered a Happy Gilmore video game.
02:32But Happy opines that they made it a little too realistic.
02:36That would be due to the fact that the game clearly recreates some of Happy's most infamous
02:40moments from the first film, from strangling a young Will Zalatouris to his legendary brawl
02:46with the one and only Bob Barker.
02:50I think you've had enough.
02:53No?
02:56Now you've had enough.
02:59Bitch.
03:00Number 8.
03:01How Happy used to toughen up.
03:03One more day before we face these chumps.
03:05This is how I used to toughen up.
03:08Oh!
03:10Oh!
03:12Ow!
03:13Oh!
03:13Oh!
03:14Oh!
03:15Oh!
03:15Oh my God, Rory!
03:17Ahead of Happy Gilmore 2's climax, the titular character drags an A-list roster of pro golfers
03:22to a batting cage, intending to teach them to toughen up, Gilmore style.
03:27This calls back to how Carl Weathers' Chubbs Peterson initially discovered Happy in the first
03:33film.
03:34Hey, mister, you gotta wear a helmet.
03:35Don't worry about it.
03:36Oh, yeah, yeah.
03:44Bring that shit on, man.
03:46Oh, God, I love it.
03:48Achoo!
03:50Oh, God, that hurt a little, but I'm all right.
03:52In case you can't recall, the rage-filled Happy improves his hockey game in the only
03:57way he knows how, taking dozens of baseballs to the chest in an attempt to improve.
04:03Well, we guess that only Happy knows that.
04:07In Happy Gilmore 2, it's Happy's new caddy, Oscar, who emerges victorious.
04:12How do you say smooth in Spanish?
04:14Okay, Oscar, let's see you stop.
04:26Number seven, Grizzly Adams.
04:30Excuse me, I'm looking to get out there.
04:34There's a threesome going out at 10-15.
04:37You can join them.
04:38Name?
04:39Don't worry about it.
04:41I won't.
04:41This one is a real blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment.
04:44After Happy decides that he's going to pick golf back up again, he heads to a local course
04:49to practice.
04:51Wanting to keep a low profile, the veteran sportsman declines to register his name at
04:55the front desk.
04:55What's that?
04:57Grizzly Adams?
04:59I don't know who that is.
05:00As he walks away, one of the clerks, played by prolific music producer Andrew Watt, asks
05:06if the disheveled, flannel-clad man was Grizzly Adams, which the other clerk, Los Angeles Sparks
05:12point guard Kelsey Plum, shrugs off.
05:15This appears to be a reference to a moment in the first film, when shooter McGavin snidely
05:20suggests that the famous mountain man didn't have a beard, to which Lee Trevino has a matter-of-fact
05:26counter.
05:27You want to beat him, beat him on the course.
05:30That's right, I'm going to beat your ass on the course.
05:32Yeah, right.
05:33Grizzly Adams had a beard.
05:35Number six, big checks.
05:38Is it true that you made a 450-yard hole in one?
05:40Hey, where's my check?
05:41We'll be mailing him out next week, sir.
05:43Oh, no, no, I want mine now.
05:44I don't have any checks to give.
05:46Well, that guy got one, right?
05:47Give me one of them big ones.
05:48I don't care.
05:49Both Happy Gilmore films revolve around Sandler's character's attempts to rustle up an intimidating
05:54amount of cash to, in some way, help his family out.
05:58In the first film, he amasses nearly $300,000 to save his grandmother's house from foreclosure
06:03and out of the hands of the slimy shooter McGavin.
06:07What the hell is the matter with you?
06:09Well, real estate speculation is a hobby of mine.
06:12Right now, you lay another finger on me, I burn the house down, and piss on the ashes.
06:17What do you want for it, shooter?
06:19You know what I want.
06:21You, off the tour.
06:23Quit, and the house is yours.
06:25In the second, Happy needs $75,000 to send his daughter Vienna to a prestigious Parisian ballet school.
06:33That financial relief can never come fast enough.
06:36And in the original Happy Gilmore, Happy needs a check to cash ASAP and shares that he's
06:41not above taking a ceremonial big check, even if the amount of money contained within is
06:46laughable.
06:48In Happy Gilmore 2, those big checks are visible in Happy's cluttered attic.
07:02Number 5.
07:03Gary Potter.
07:04Gary Potter.
07:06Great to have you on the tour, Happy.
07:08I feel a lot of solid energy coming out of you.
07:10Good, positive aura.
07:12Great.
07:12Great.
07:13It's all great.
07:13Yeah, man.
07:14Nice to meet you, man.
07:15Because I always like this with the TV cameras and the people and stuff.
07:19Oh, yeah.
07:19A lot of pressure.
07:20You've got to rise above it.
07:21You've got to harness into good energy.
07:23Block out the bad.
07:25Harness.
07:25Energy.
07:26Block.
07:27Bad.
07:27Watch enough Adam Sandler movies and you'll start to notice a familiar roster of faces.
07:32And to be clear, we're not complaining.
07:34It's always a treat when Saturday Night Live alum Kevin Nealon shows up.
07:38In Happy Gilmore, he plays Gary Potter, no apparent relation to the boy wizard.
07:43As a well-meaning but clearly off-kilter pro golfer who offers Happy some, well, let's call it spiritual guidance.
07:51Feel the flow, Happy.
07:52Feel it.
07:53It's circular.
07:54It's like a carousel.
07:55You pay the quarter, you get on the horse.
07:57It goes up and down and around.
07:59Circular.
08:00Circle.
08:00Hardcore fans of the first film were likely thrilled when Nealon reprised his role in the sequel,
08:14having lost none of his eccentric charm, which appears to be completely lost on real-life pro golfer Scotty Scheffler.
08:22Now let's check in with our own Gary Potter, who's with number one-ranked Scotty Scheffler.
08:28Thanks, Vern.
08:29Scotty, you have been on quite a tear.
08:31Oh, my God.
08:31You're seeing the ball and the hole and the position of the ball and hole.
08:34All good things.
08:36Is there a question in there, Gary?
08:38Number four, a tribute to the water boy.
08:41Heard the roar of the crowd.
08:43He's the rich of the sea.
08:46What is it to the wall?
08:49Like a distant dream.
08:52He heard one guitar.
08:53As Benny Safdie's insufferable Frank Manatee goes on a whirlwind press tour, Happy Gilmore takes the baby steps necessary toward reclaiming his former golf glory.
09:05While out putting on a Connecticut beach, Happy runs into a friendly and familiar-looking vagrant.
09:12Although you might not recognize him, the elderly beachgoer is played by none other than Blake Clark, the frequent Sandler collaborator who played the mush-mouthed Farmer Fran in 1998's The Waterboy.
09:23Coach, I'd like to tackle him right now, please.
09:25Not yet.
09:27All right.
09:28Now, I want to work with the offense.
09:29I want to work with the defense.
09:30Special teams.
09:31Go with Farmer Fran.
09:32Do some laps.
09:33F***.
09:34How are you going?
09:35The way to get him, the way to get out of y'all!
09:37While Clark's cameo remains just that, a cameo, his character's tendency to tweak a certain part of his anatomy leads us to believe that he's reprising his role from the earlier film.
09:49Does that mean we'll see the return of Bobby Boucher in the near future?
09:53Only time will tell.
09:53I'll handle it.
09:55I appreciate it.
09:56I don't know what happened.
09:58Guess who you said?
09:59Go!
10:00They'll get in a magic!
10:02Number 3.
10:04Lee Trevino.
10:05Remember the gator that got your hand?
10:07I got his head.
10:12Chubs!
10:13Chubs!
10:21First my dad, now Chubs.
10:24Six-time major championship winner Trevino played a small but amusingly pivotal role as himself in the first Happy Gilmore film.
10:31Whenever Happy would make a fool of himself, Trevino would be there, shaking his head disapprovingly.
10:37In fact, the golfer even happens to be at the scene of Chubs Peterson's untimely death.
10:42Trevino seems to have mellowed out by the time the sequel takes place, chatting with Happy with no apparent disdain for his behavior.
10:49We have to imagine that he's since backtracked on his claim that he wouldn't have appeared in Happy Gilmore if he had known about all the swearing.
10:56Are you guys taking aspirin before you get out there, by the way?
10:59Oh, I'm popping them like Tic Tacs.
11:01I grind them in my applesauce.
11:03I used to be able to play 72 holes without breaking a sweat.
11:06Now it's going to take me 10 minutes to get out of this chair.
11:08Number 2.
11:09Mr.
11:09From the get-go, it's pretty clear that Silver Acres Rest Home was hardly a five-star resort.
11:36And how could Happy have known that it was run with an iron fist by the abominable Hal Elf?
11:42Happy and Grandma's first indication that something isn't quite right is the sudden appearance of a certain particularly unhappy resident.
11:50Unfortunately for her, this isn't her final run-in with Happy.
11:54While attempting to fix Grandma's air conditioning, Happy unintentionally drops the unit on her, remarking that he thinks he may have, well, you know.
12:03Get this off of me!
12:04Mr!
12:05Hang on, I'll be right down!
12:08Uh, you know that Mr. Mr. Lady?
12:10I think I, uh, just killed her.
12:12We finally get a jokey confirmation that Happy did indeed take her life.
12:16When he and Shooter engage in a good old-fashioned cemetery melee.
12:20So long, Mr. Mr. Lady.
12:23We hardly knew you.
12:24Apparently, if a certain hip ligament is not attached, you can hit the ball way farther.
12:28Oh, no, no, I always powered my drives the old-fashioned way, with rage.
12:33Yeah, you want to get out of these pajamas?
12:36I live around here.
12:36Yeah, thanks.
12:38Mr!
12:39Mr!
12:41Get me out of here!

12:53If you're on your phone, make sure you go into your settings and switch on notifications.
12:58Number one, Scotty Scheffler's run-in with the law.
13:04Quite an impressive right cross, but Scotty Scheffler is going to be disqualified before ever swinging a club.
13:11Woo!
13:11That was some gangster s***.
13:14Gangster s*** indeed.
13:16Don't worry.
13:17You'd be forgiven for missing this Easter egg if you don't follow professional golf.
13:21The last half of Happy Gilmore 2 has echoes of Space Jam in that a team of pros is forced to compete against a super-powered new generation of athletes for the future of the sport.
13:31On Happy's team is four-time major championship winner, Scotty Scheffler, who made headlines in May of 2024 upon being arrested near Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.
13:42We're following a developing story out of the PGA Championship in Kentucky.
13:46We told you this at the start of the hour.
13:48World number one golfer Scotty Scheffler arrested while trying to enter the Valhalla Golf Club ahead of today's second round.
13:55He's facing multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer.
14:00Scheffler was released and has since returned to the course.
14:03Thankfully for Scheffler, even though he faced a number of criminal charges, they were dropped.
14:08And prosecutors described the incident as a big misunderstanding.
14:12Happy Gilmore 2 proves that Scheffler is a good sport by making light of his legal troubles and having him spend the end of the film in jail.
14:21Oh no, not again.
14:23Come on.
14:23Another drill.
14:26Sorry, boys.
14:27We'll take care of business now, alright?
14:29Next on the team, Rory McIlroy and Screech.
14:33Which Happy Gilmore Easter egg was your favorite?
14:36Are there any we missed?
14:37Be sure to let us know in the comments below.
14:41Hey, Scheffler.
14:41It's been three days.
14:43You sure you don't want to make that call?
14:45Eh, depends.
14:46What's for dinner?
14:47Chicken fenders.
14:48I'll stick around another night.
