00:00A postponement looms in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, or BSKE, this year.
00:06Isaiah Merafuentes has the details in this report.
00:11Although President Ferdinand Marquez Jr. had not yet signed it,
00:14the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections scheduled for this year is expected to be postponed.
00:20According to Comeleic Chairman George Erwin Garcia,
00:22President Marquez is expected to sign the postponement of the BSKE on August 12.
00:27The election initially set for December 2025 may be moved to November 2026.
00:33If we look into it, the current Barangay and SK officials who were elected in 2023 have only served for two years.
00:40Additionally, the proposed bill to be signed by the President also includes a change in the term length of elected officials.
00:47From three years, the term of Barangay officials and SK officials will now be extended to four years.
00:53Barangay officials will be allowed two terms of office,
00:56with SK officials getting only a single term.
00:59Despite the possible delay in the BSKE,
01:02Comelec's voters' registration continues.
01:04They have launched special registration anywhere anytime sites located in malls, parks, and other venues.
01:10In addition to the regular registration sites located at local Comelec offices,
01:15the special registration anywhere anytime program is now available in high-traffic areas.
01:19Here, new voters and previous voters whose registrations have expired can register.
01:26Like Raquel from Malabon, who wants to transfer her registration to Pasay.
01:30She now believes in the importance of voting and even encourages all her children to register.
01:35The special registration site includes transport hubs or terminals, malls, hospital, and select call center companies.
01:52Registration is also available in some train stations and at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
02:11Starting last Friday, registration will run for 10 days at Comelec offices
02:15and for 7 days in select locations like parks.
02:19A million new voters are expected to be added through this ongoing voters' registration.
