00:00This life looks over, let's see!
00:30I've said it before, I'm gonna say it again.
00:35When you look up the term Superstar,
00:38you see the face of the Eradicator, Rhea Bloody Ripley.
00:45And for Rhea Ripley tonight,
00:49it is about ending undesirable streaks.
00:56It is about putting to bed things she's not been able to accomplish.
01:01She's never won at SummerSlam, she's never defeated EO Sky.
01:06I spoke to Rhea Ripley earlier today, Wade, and she says, tonight is the night.
01:12Well, this is undoubtedly the face of women's wrestling in the present era.
01:19But how the hell can you be the face of women's wrestling?
01:23A, without the gold, and B, without a victory at SummerSlam.
01:28That is a baffling statistic, one that I would feel I'd have to check up on if
01:33I didn't know you weren't always completely accurate, Michael Cole.
01:36But yeah, big, big night for Rhea Ripley.
01:39An opportunity tonight for Rhea to win the Women's World Championship.
01:45She just has an unbelievable presence, does Rhea Ripley.
02:01She is the genius of the sky.
02:29The genius of the sky, EO Sky, the former Women's World Champion.
02:36And last month at the Evolution Premium Live Event in Atlanta,
02:41EO Sky and Rhea Ripley put on the proverbial barn burner, stealing the show.
02:48One of the all-time great matches at Evolution.
02:51Rhea Ripley, CMV, finally closing in on beating EO Sky.
02:56And Naomi Wade would cash in money in the bank.
03:00Well, sometimes in life, you just have your Kryptonite.
03:03And as close as Rhea Ripley got at Evolution, ultimately, she did not prevail.
03:08Kryptonite won once again, one way or another.
03:12And for many, if Rhea Ripley is the face of women's wrestling,
03:16then the best women's wrestler on the planet, bell to bell, is EO Sky.
03:20And this match to kick off SummerSlam Sunday is brought to you by Drumstick,
03:25the official partner of SummerSlam and America's favorite sundae cone.
03:28There's only one ultimate snack that's chocolatey, creamy, crunchy, and crispy.
03:34And it's Drumstick, the SmackDown Champion.
03:38Ladies and gentlemen, welcome again to ringside.
03:45Michael Cole, Wade Barrett.
03:46Wade, my question to you is, how on earth do we follow up last night?
03:51Well, night one was epic, but night two always tops night one, doesn't it?
03:57Gauntlet laid down.
03:59Let's have ourselves a night here on SummerSlam Sunday.
04:02And the Spanish announced team, Jerry and Marcelo, here as well.
04:05Welcome, guys.
04:06Thank you, amigos.
04:08And after what happened last night, as Michael Cole said,
04:10we're going to be here to make a little bit more of history.
04:13There were changes in titles.
04:14Will that happen tonight?
04:16Will that happen tonight?
04:17The history can change as it changed tonight.
04:19And as it could change a lot of people here in SummerSlam Sunday.
04:22Two of the three participants in our Triple Threat Match
04:29for the Women's World Title.
04:31Again, first to gain pinfall or submission becomes the champion tonight.
04:35No countouts, no disqualifications.
04:37No countouts, no disqualifications.
04:39It's a very unbiased group of players.
04:40And it's a very good one, but I remember that a football team
04:41has been set for decades.
04:42Is it coming all the time for a match?
04:43You did a lot of film?
04:44No, he should be one of them.
04:45And it's a very good one, so it's not to that.
04:47I'm sure you're right after you're missing out at the end.
04:48All the time, it's a great game, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
04:49But you've got to be a great game.
04:50But you've got to be a great game, and the team has to be a great game,
04:54you're not gonna be a good game and a big game.
04:56We're going to be a good game for a game,
04:57Ladies and gentlemen, the man on the guitar is Naomi's father.
05:27Shawn McRae, a world-renowned guitarist.
05:32He heads up to Derrick Mack Band.
05:35He wants open for cool in the game back in the day.
05:37He's played with Tyler Dane, and now tonight he's helping his daughter Naomi
05:43head to the ring to kick off SummerSlam.
05:47I don't know if Naomi's gonna come to the ring.
05:50She's having too much of a party out there, but some people get all the luck,
05:54don't they?
05:55Not only is Naomi the champion of the world, but
05:59her dad can play guitar like Jimi Hendrix.
06:03I wish I was Naomi.
06:04You better watch out.
06:10Watch out.
06:15I'm coming.
06:23You better watch out.
06:28Watch out.
06:32You better watch out.
06:34Watch out.
06:37I'm coming.
06:42Let's head up to our ring announcer, the great Alicia Taylor.
07:03The following contest is a triple threat match, and
07:15is for the Women's World Championship.
07:21Introducing the challengers, first from Adelaide,
07:33South Australia, Rhea Ripley.
07:43Next, from Tokyo, Japan, Io Sky.
08:02And their opponent, from Orlando, Florida, she is the Women's World Champion, Naomi.
08:23A lot of interesting stats as we start this matchup tonight.
08:31Naomi, she's never won at SummerSlam, her last appearance was back in 2017.
08:36On that night, she lost the Women's Championship to Natalya.
08:39So a lot of revenge on Naomi's mind tonight.
08:42Let's take a look at Io Sky Wade in her career.
08:45She is eight and one, eight and one in triple threat matches.
08:49Referee Jessica Carr calls for the bell, and we are underway.
08:56Io Sky, two years ago at SummerSlam,
08:58cashed in money in the bank to win the WWE Women's Championship.
09:03So what's the strategy now, Wade, for these women as they try to knock off Naomi tonight?
09:07Well, Naomi took a major shortcut with the Money in the Bank briefcase at Evolution,
09:12costing two women their historical moment after an epic match.
09:16And clearly, the two women concerned have not forgotten that.
09:20And we're apparently out for vengeance on Naomi.
09:23Naomi taking a step sideways, at least momentarily.
09:27Well, she's allowed to do that.
09:29There are no count outs in a triple threat match.
09:31But remember, there's no champion's advantage.
09:33Naomi does not have to be involved in the decision to lose the championship tonight.
09:37If Ria Pindio or vice versa, they'd be the chain.
09:41Right up, there seems to be a momentary alliance here.
09:45There was no love loss for Naomi, that is for sure.
09:52Who looks for a way to escape early, and I think Ripley will not allow that to happen.
09:56Yeah, sadly, there are no shortcuts tonight for Naomi.
09:59This is gonna be as arduous as winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in the first place,
10:04should she prevail.
10:05Well, Naomi is gonna have to, to use her words, proceed with caution against these two women here,
10:11tonight.
10:17And Naomi went after Rhea Ripley, and now Io Sky gets involved with the right hand.
10:20And we're underway with action in this Women's World Championship matchup.
10:24Yeah, it's a lot more difficult now that Io Sky and Rhea Ripley are completely fresh,
10:29unlike the cash-in at Evolution, when they were wiped out after such a tortuous match.
10:35Well, of course, that was a surprise, right?
10:37Naomi cashing in.
10:38Tonight, there are no surprises.
10:40Oh, no!
10:41Rhea Ripley, I think that was inadvertent, and clocked Io Sky as they appeared to
10:46want to be working together there, and a mule kick by Naomi, and suddenly the champ's taking control.
10:50And that was about the best thing that could have happened for Naomi in this one.
10:54Break up this alliance right off the bat.
10:56This ain't two on one.
10:58Now, surely, it's every woman for themselves.
11:00Naomi now climbing up to the top rope.
11:01Io and Rhea are there, and Naomi now with a crossbody.
11:06Makes out Rhea and Io Sky.
11:08You know, we talked in the countdown show, Wade, the importance of this matchup for Naomi.
11:12There again is that kick from Rhea Ripley to Io Sky.
11:20A friendly fire, despite the fact both are opponents in this match.
11:25That alliance completely obliterated right off the bat.
11:28Well, Naomi's been upset, too, that a lot of whispers over the past few weeks,
11:32that over the fact that she became champion by cashing in Money in the Bank,
11:35that maybe she didn't quite earn that.
11:37Those are the words of others in the locker room.
11:39Complete BS, I've heard that a million times.
11:41The cashing is easy.
11:43That's the bit that a fool couldn't screw that up.
11:47The hard part is getting the briefcase in the first place.
11:49That is really where you win the World Championship.
11:52So I'm taking no shot on Naomi about cashing in and being successful.
11:56She earned every piece of that championship.
11:59But now you've got to earn it all over again.
12:01And Rhea up on the apron now, and look at how power Naomi here.
12:05And Naomi trying to block.
12:07Rhea got a pin full of hair.
12:12Naomi was perhaps biting the hand there of Rhea Ripley.
12:16Either way, it was completely effective.
12:18And Naomi, in the early goings here, has been told.
12:23The X Factor delivered to Io Sky, cover now.
12:25One, two.
12:26And a kick out by Sky.
12:27Again, if it was biting, it's legal and no disqualifications.
12:31Here in the Triple Threat Match tonight.
12:33The new attitude by Naomi, tried to talk to her about it earlier today.
12:37Said she's sick and tired.
12:40She said of being disrespected, being mistreated, being overused.
12:44Those were her words.
12:46Felt like she was stabbed in the back by both Bianca Belair and Jade Cargo.
12:50Decided it was time to do things on her own.
12:5215 plus years at the top.
12:54And who was giving Naomi any respect?
12:56And still, she alerted everyone to this change in personality.
13:00Proceed with Corsi.
13:01Oh my god, right on the nose of Rhea Ripley.
13:04Should kick off the ropes and now Naomi gonna, ooh, try to pin Rhea there, who kicks out.
13:10Well look, when you break into the industry, as we take another look at this boot,
13:14I think it was actually the forehead of Rhea Ripley.
13:16Didn't get a gushing nose like Gunther last night, fortunately for the Aussie superstar.
13:21But when you break into this industry, and you perform in a role like a Funkadactyl, a backing dancer,
13:27very often the stigma of that follows you forever.
13:31Well that's been enough for Naomi.
13:33It did follow Naomi, not anymore.
13:35She also felt like a number of years ago, she was forced out of the company,
13:39had to go and reinvent herself, which she did.
13:42Became a TNA Knockouts Champion, would return to WWE, and then decided,
13:46hey, I gotta start doing things the way I wanna do things around here, and it's paid off.
13:50Yeah, came back after that departure, was given respect for about three weeks,
13:54and then it was all back to the old Naomi once again.
13:56Oh, it's just Naomi, we don't need to give her opportunities.
13:59Well, don't give me any opportunities, I'm just gonna start taking them.
14:03Well done, Naomi.
14:04Naomi with a big kick, and now, oh, and Rhea bounced off the apron.
14:08It's been all Naomi, she is absolutely battering Rhea and Io Sky,
14:13that arguably the two best women wrestlers on the planet.
14:17Naomi now up to the top rope, Rhea back to her feet, and Naomi, what a blockbuster by Naomi,
14:24quickly into the cover now, on Ripley, hooks the leg, and Rhea's got a kick out at two.
14:29Complete control from Naomi, just picking apart these two badass women.
14:34And Rhea Ripley looking in, major dire straits, and now keep your eye on Io Sky.
14:39Io Sky comes off the top rope, and Naomi able to avoid a, perhaps a missile dropkick there.
14:45And now, roll through by Naomi, kick right to the face of Io Sky.
14:49And again, Naomi looks great so far in this matchup.
14:52Arguably the best Naomi has ever looked in her entire career.
14:56This woman is just getting better and better.
14:59And now she's mocking Io Sky.
15:02Do whatever you want when you're the champ, you have the gold, you're in control.
15:05Just keep on doing what you do.
15:10And now Rhea, back to her feet.
15:14Rhea with a clothesline, and now the eradicator starts to take over.
15:18Let's go.
15:24Naomi face first.
15:27Io, springboard off the top rope, and there's the missile dropkick.
15:30Into a kip up for Sky.
15:38Now Rhea and Io having some fun together.
15:41You know they'd love to make this a one-on-one match at some point, Wade,
15:44to finally settle their differences.
15:46To Alev a lot easier winning a one-on-one match, than a three-way like this.
15:526-1-9 into a released German suplex.
15:54Naomi proceeds with caution.
15:58And this double teaming on Naomi might have been the only way Ripley and Io Sky were
16:03going to get back into the match, but now it's one-on-one.
16:08Yeah, Rhea with that smile.
16:09We got some unfinished business back at Evolution last month.
16:14And Io, such a joy to watch.
16:19You're the best in the world going at it right here.
16:23And if there was any doubt before Evolution, I think the world knew right after it.
16:27These are the two toughest women we've ever seen.
16:31Cover by Rhea, Io's got a kick out at two.
16:33Caught each other through hell in Atlanta three weeks ago, and kept on ticking.
16:39Take another look at this.
16:42Bam!
16:44High flying Io Sky just plucked out by the powerhouse Rhea Ripley.
16:48Rhea going for a riptide, looking to put this one away.
16:51And Io able to turn it around, roll up, shoulders down, and a kick out by Rhea at two.
16:58Another great takedown by Io, now in control.
17:02And that cross facing, Rhea Ripley just too strong at least at this point in the match
17:08to keep that locked in, right on the bridge of the nose.
17:12And uh-oh, Io missed wildly with a kick up on Rhea's shoulders now.
17:17Io though, wow!
17:18My God, my God.
17:20Cover by Sky to win the championship, and Naomi's gotta break things up to save her title.
17:25That was close.
17:27Poison Rana there, just as Rhea Ripley was going for the power move once again.
17:32Worked the first time, but Io Sky just developing as the match goes on,
17:37learning from opponents, and figuring out counters.
17:44And Naomi looked in the corner, and there's a back elbow to Sky.
17:47Man!
17:53Great reflex dodge there by Naomi, but didn't dodge the second one.
17:58Razor's edge from Rhea to Io.
18:00And now Ripley, down goes Io again, stacks her up, and Naomi drags Rhea off the cover.
18:12What a contrast in styles between these three women, the high-flying technical skills of Io Sky,
18:19the power moves of Rhea Ripley, and this unorthodox craziness of Naomi.
18:26Now Naomi, who appeared to be going in for a cover, was stopped by Ripley.
18:30And now Rhea and Naomi going at it outside the ring.
18:35Driven rips through the barricade, and now into the steps.
18:38And that rage inside Rhea Ripley starting to bubble to the surface,
18:44and that can be dangerous for Ripley.
18:46She's devastating when she's in this mode, but she's got to take her eye off the ball,
18:53when consumed by rage, drops the guard, and Io Sky can capitalize from any angle.
18:59Springboard moonsault from Io Sky.
19:04There's a reason she's called genius in the sky, as she wipes out Rhea and Naomi.
19:09And now Io, with an opportunity to win the championship.
19:12One, two.
19:15That kick stunned Naomi, caught her in the ear.
19:17This audience here starting to believe that it is Io Sky's night,
19:21especially with Rhea Ripley down on the outside.
19:24Io looking for the bullet train attack, but Rhea Ripley looks to intercept,
19:29and Io gonna make her pay with a stomp.
19:31Kryptonite strikes again for Rhea Ripley, nothing is working against Io Sky.
19:37We talked about it before, sometimes you just have an opponent you can't beat.
19:43And Sky has been that for Ripley, a couple of bullet train attacks now.
19:47And the longer that streak goes on, the worse it gets, the harder it is to get over the hump.
19:52Now Io Sky with all the momentum in the world.
20:01Choose your victim.
20:03Rhea down and out in the far corner, and Io Sky says,
20:06that's it, gonna head up top.
20:10Maybe looking for, over the moonsault, Rhea Ripley drives her into the ring post.
20:15Oh, sternum first, onto the top of that ring post.
20:20Crack ribs are anything from there, but Rhea Ripley doesn't care.
20:23No one goal is on the line.
20:25Thought Rhea was going for the riptide, and Naomi caught her with a kick to the hamstring.
20:28And now Naomi, split leg moonsault, tells she won the championship.
20:32Cover, hook of the leg, isn't it enough to put Rhea away?
20:35Io Sky, over the moonsault, but she takes out Rhea.
20:39Naomi, that was a, she's been watching Bianca Belair, that was for WrestleMania.
20:46And look at this now, shoulders down again, and a kick out by Sky.
20:50You're absolutely right.
20:51So much awareness from Naomi here, you mentioned it yourself.
20:54Something very similar happened at WrestleMania with former tag partner Bianca Belair.
21:00And we know full well that Naomi knows everything about Bianca Belair.
21:04She was stalking her in a house at one point, rummaging through her underwear drawers and
21:10finding out whatever else she could about Bianca Belair.
21:13Well, she found out the crucial detail there, that is how you avoid Io Sky.
21:17Naomi's been doing her homework, triple threat match for the Women's World
21:21Championship in front of over 56,000 tonight on SummerSlam Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
21:27And crucially, it has given Naomi the upper hand with Rhea Ripley laid out.
21:32And now Io Sky on Jelly Legs.
21:38Shotae uppercuts there.
21:40And another one by Io.
21:41Io's struggling to maintain a vertical base, but once again the pendulum swings here.
21:46And Io, what a knee, what a collision.
21:49He may have broken the nose of Io Sky.
21:52Completely wiping out the genius of the Sky, but ready to bounce is Ripley.
21:57On the head back, into the riptie by Rhea, Rhea stacks up the champion.
22:03Io Sky just before the three count breaks things up.
22:07One 100th of a second away from victory for Rhea Ripley.
22:14Look at this knee to a bang in motion, Io Sky temporarily wiping out the Japanese
22:20superstar and then Ripley ready to bounce with the big hitter.
22:24Riptide connects, 2.99, hey, that's not quite gonna get the job done tonight,
22:31thanks to the speed of Io Sky.
22:32Again, first woman to gain pinfall or submission wins the Women's World Championship.
22:38Naomi outside the ring after getting clocked by not just the knee, but the Riptide.
22:43And now Rhea Ripley and Io Sky square off, center of the ring.
22:47Yeah, the double whammy to Naomi, open a window for these two now to grab the gold.
22:53Got to make it count while you can, but there ain't much left in the tank of these two.
22:57Exchanging blows, Io back to the feet, Rhea as well.
23:06Kick by Rhea, drops Io to her knees.
23:08Yeah, slow fast against Rhea Ripley, I don't fancy anyone else's chances.
23:13And now Naomi, gonna pay for it.
23:18And Rhea Ripley with a boot drives Naomi off the apron.
23:21And now Io gonna dump Rhea up to the apron as well.
23:23And all of the big hits are going the way of Naomi right now.
23:28No.
23:28Except for that one.
23:30Bullseye, Rhea Ripley.
23:32And now Ripley off the apron, a bowling ball, the cannon ball delivered to Naomi.
23:39It's almost a scorpion kick, kind of caught the heel of the boot right to the top of the head
23:44of Naomi, scrambling the brains of the champ for now.
23:49And now Naomi back up to the apron.
23:51She looks down at the champion, Io Sky back to her feet.
23:54Io Sky now looking for a sunset flip powerbomb, Rhea Ripley hanging on.
23:59And now Io delivers a powerbomb to Naomi.
24:03And all three women are down in front of us here.
24:07Cushioning the landing somewhat for Rhea Ripley with the ribs of Naomi.
24:16Rhea Ripley now not looking good at all.
24:19And in whole pursuit is Io Sky.
24:21And Io gonna climb now to the top rope.
24:23Genius of the sky says this one's over.
24:25Io Sky positioning.
24:27Uh-oh, looking for over the moonsault.
24:30And again, Rhea Ripley able to count them.
24:32Sky just too sluggish on that one.
24:34So beat up at this point in the match, as are the other two women in the match.
24:38Io Carter.
24:46It's again one of those show tape uppercuts.
24:48It completely scramble the brain.
24:51Io will stumble there.
24:55Jumping up to the top rope, Rhea Ripley with a headbutt.
24:58And now Rhea's got Io in position.
25:00Good job.
25:03Rhea Ripley from the second rope.
25:07Riptide!
25:08Avalanche Riptide!
25:10Stacks her up for the win!
25:12Naomi now, from behind, rolls up Rhea.
25:15Naomi, Naomi retains the title!
25:18Here is your winner, and still, the women's world champion, Naomi!
25:32My goodness, Wade, Rhea Ripley is snakebent.
25:38There's no other way to describe it.
25:40Ripley had the title won again, and Naomi came from out of nowhere and pinned Rhea Ripley.
25:49It doesn't matter if she used the tights, Rhea, no disqualification.
25:52The craftiest woman on earth played all the right cards tonight.
25:59Naomi, the world is basking in your glow.
26:02Congratulations, still, world champ.
26:07This match was brought to you by Drumstick, the official partner of SummerSlam,
26:10and America's favorite sundae cones.
26:13Replay time now, because there's only one ultimate snack, the chocolatey, creamy,
26:16crunchy, and crispy, and it's Drumstick, the snap down champion.
26:20This is the bullseye right to the kisser of the Genius of the Sky,
26:23followed by this little scorpion-like attack on Naomi.
26:27It looked like Naomi was dead and buried after this powerbomb,
26:31right onto the chest by Io Sky, but things turned around in a hurry.
26:36One slip on the top rope from Io Sky and Avalanche Riptide.
26:40Later, it was over, but not in the way Rhea Ripley thought.
26:45It was over, because Naomi pounced and was ready.
26:49Here is your winner.
26:56Shrewd, lucky, smart,
27:02Naomi is still the women's world champion.
