00:01:06His combination of talent, image, and looks
00:01:08have translated into Oscar-mania
00:01:10and brought mainstream attention to a sport
00:01:12in need of resuscitation.
00:01:14For De La Hoya, help is on the way
00:01:16as a new breed of fighter has emerged,
00:01:18invigorating the sport while broadening its appeal.
00:01:21Mayweather with her right over the top.
00:01:23This Mayweather pounds away.
00:01:25For Floyd Mayweather Jr., it's always been a family affair.

00:01:33Mayweather has set the boxing world on fire.
00:01:36And while his in-the-ring achievements
00:01:37garnered him his first championship

00:02:58Tonight, live from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, HBO Sports presents World Championship Boxing.
00:03:06Tonight, we showcase two of the very best in the sport as they prepare to face two crafty ring veterans.
00:03:12First, Floyd Mayweather defends his super featherweight crown against Justin Juco.
00:03:16That'll be followed by welterweight champion Oscar De La Hoya taking on Oba Carr.
00:03:20Both fights scheduled for the championship distance of 12 rounds.
00:03:24A brand new hotel and casino which will be playing a visible role in the near history of the sport.
00:03:32Because coming up in the next six months, this Mandalay Bay expects to host in its beautiful new indoor arena,
00:03:39just 100 yards or so from the beach-appointed outdoor swimming pool.
00:03:44Some very big fights, two of the most significant in the sport in the next six months, likely to take place here.
00:03:51And on this weekend, as Woody Harrelson appears in a boxing movie being shot by director Ron Shelton.
00:03:58Many of Shelton's good friends from Hollywood helping to add to the celebrity core,
00:04:02which commonly attends every Oscar De La Hoya event.
00:04:06They are here once again in full force tonight.
00:04:10Antonio Banderas there, the other principal in Shelton's movie,
00:04:14along with Woody Harrelson and Jim Brown here to add to the retinue of celebrities at ringside.
00:04:21And this is a good look at the brand new Mandalay Bay Casinos Indoor Arena.
00:04:24Hello again, I'm Jim Lampley.
00:04:26We welcome you to this pivotal edition of HBO's World Championship Boxing.
00:04:29Pivotal because, if Oscar De La Hoya is successfully able to get past Obacar tonight,
00:04:35and if a final few details of negotiation can be squared away,
00:04:39it now appears that De La Hoya, if he wins tonight,
00:04:42will be facing Felix Trinidad in their long-awaited welterweight showdown
00:04:46right here in this room, September 18.
00:04:49Before we see De La Hoya against Carr,
00:04:51you'll be seeing Floyd Mayweather Jr. defending the 130-pound championship
00:04:54he won last year as a 21-year-old.
00:04:57He was expected to fight against Goyo Vargas, the former featherweight champion,
00:05:01but Vargas, as of Wednesday, either got the flu or simply flew the coop,
00:05:07depending on whom you believe.
00:05:08And now the last-minute throw-in opponent for Mayweather
00:05:11is a veteran born in Uganda but raised in the ring here in Las Vegas,
00:05:16whose name is Justin Juco.
00:05:18Well, whether you know Juco or not, you know our HBO Boxing analyst Larry Merchant,
00:05:22who's been with us for so many years.
00:05:23Larry, as of yesterday's negotiation for the Trinidad-De La Hoya fight this coming fall,
00:05:29the buzz surrounding the possibility of Trinidad-De La Hoya
00:05:32is louder than the crowd noise the 12,000 here will make for De La Hoya and Carr.
00:05:38How did Oba Carr, with 48 wins in his career and only a couple of losses,
00:05:43somehow become nothing more than a tune-up fight for Oscar De La Hoya?
00:05:46Jim, Carr's need tune-ups. Oba Carr is no tune-up. Oba Carr can fight.
00:05:54If the De La Hoya-Trinidad mega fight had been in clearer view when tonight's fight was made,
00:06:01tonight's fight most likely would not have been made.
00:06:05A weaker opponent for De La Hoya probably would be in the ring with him tonight.
00:06:09Be that as it may, Oscar De La Hoya is a phenomenon who can make millions and millions of dollars,
00:06:17phenomenal amounts of money, for fighting coat hangers.
00:06:20So he should get all credit for going out there now, for towing the line,
00:06:26and taking on, finally, the best fighters in the division,
00:06:31fights we've been looking forward to for a long, long time.
00:06:34And more on that later on this evening when we get ready for De La Hoya against Carr.
00:06:37But first, as we mentioned, one of the real upcoming superstars in the sport,
00:06:41the very gifted Floyd Mayweather Jr.
00:06:43And here to talk about him, two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman.
00:06:46George Floyd Mayweather Jr. believes, as do many of the rest of us in the sport,
00:06:51that he has Oscar De La Hoya kind of talent, Roy Jones Jr. kind of talent.
00:06:55But as a result, he's already saying openly that he wants Oscar De La Hoya kind of money,
00:07:00Roy Jones Jr. kind of money.
00:07:01Could he distract himself from the tasks at hand, or is he just too good for that?
00:07:07Yeah, check all the above.
00:07:09This guy is a package.
00:07:11We may not realize it right now, but we better jump on board.
00:07:14Although you said earlier, jump on the train, there's a lot of people already on board.
00:07:18This guy's got the package.
00:07:20He's going to go down if he continuously stay in good shape.
00:07:22He's one of the best fighters of all time.
00:07:24He may as well start asking for the big money now.
00:07:27They're going to have to pay it to him later on.
00:07:28This guy, he's got the package.
00:07:30So you don't see a problem with him worrying about what De La Hoya and Jones make.
00:07:33Look, you've got to get out there and ask for the money.
00:07:35If someone else evidently has not asked for the money, you've got to go out there and
00:07:38big for the money.
00:07:39Make them pay you.
00:07:40They're going to have to pay you later anyway.
00:07:42Sale of the tape for Floyd Mayweather Jr. against Justin Juco.
00:07:46Juco, the last-minute throw-in who replaced Goya Vargas on the fight.
00:07:49Justin Juco.
00:07:51Juco, the last-minute throw-in who replaced Goya Vargas on the fight card.
00:07:55Mayweather was 21 when he won a world championship and became the first member of the 1996 Olympic
00:08:00team to do so.
00:08:02They weighed in at 130 yesterday.
00:08:03Tonight, Juco's back up to 140, where he may have been earlier this week before he got
00:08:07the last-minute notice to take the fight.
00:08:10And Mayweather has gained six pounds.
00:08:12They're equal in reach.
00:08:13Punch stat numbers, Larry.
00:08:14Juco is a very, very active fighter, throws a lot of punches, but that means that he's
00:08:22also a very hittable fighter because he doesn't land a very high percentage of them.
00:08:29He primarily throws that jab out there, one every three seconds, according to these numbers.
00:08:35Sooner or later, Mayweather is going to be able to time it.
00:08:39Rules of the bout with our unofficial ringside scorer, Harold Letterman.
00:08:43The Floyd Mayweather-Justin Juco fighter schedule for 12 rounds, using those unified rules of
00:08:49the Association of Boxing Commissions.
00:08:51There is no standing eight count, no three-knockdown rule.
00:08:54Only the referee can stop the fight, and you cannot be saved by the bell at any round,
00:08:58including the 12th and final rounds.
00:09:01Jim.
00:09:01And first to enter the ring will be Justin Juco.
00:09:05We mentioned his colorful genesis on the sport.
00:09:08Born and raised in Uganda, the nation that produced fighters like Cornelius Boz-Adwards,
00:09:13who's something of a mentor to Juco, and John the Beast Mugabe.
00:09:16But he came all the way here to America and began his professional boxing career eight
00:09:22years ago in Las Vegas before going off to fight at other far-flung points around the globe.
00:09:28You know, given the circumstance, he is a credible fill-in, but there have been some kind of a
00:09:35low-grade dissatisfaction with the fact that he has a title fight after having lost a title fight
00:09:43in his last fight.
00:09:45Some people thought that this should be considered a non-title fight, but the promoter has a contract
00:09:51with the hotel for two title fights.
00:09:54We have two title fights.
00:09:55And Juco, a former sparring partner of Jeff Mayweather, who is one of Floyd Mayweather's
00:10:03illustrious uncles from the sport, both Jeff and Roger, his uncles with long professional
00:10:08boxing backgrounds.
00:10:10Juco sparred with Jeff, and therefore Floyd knows him pretty well, knows what he can do.
00:10:20His father, he told us, was an engineer back in Uganda.
00:10:24He himself has had one year of college.
00:10:30And he told us that he's a prince in Uganda.
00:10:33A real prince, not like Prince Nassim Ahmed, who's a publicity prince.
00:10:38This one comes from a royal family.
00:10:40Here's his record.
00:10:42And he went seven and a half years between losses, fighting guys whose names you haven't
00:10:46heard, but nevertheless winning all the time between 1991 and early this year.
00:10:51So the overall record, 33 wins, two losses, one draw, 25 KOs.
00:10:56Looks highly credible on paper.
00:10:57Again, the question, what kind of fighters was he fighting?
00:11:00And now the Mayweather clan from Grand Rapids.
00:11:09You know, Jim Floyd, Mayweather is a wonderful talent.
00:11:14Looks like he's going to be recognized as a great fighter someday.
00:11:17And I agree with George.
00:11:19It's good for him to have the ambition to want to be great and to want to earn the kind
00:11:24of money that recognized experienced fighters make.
00:11:28But he's also been complaining about the fact that his promoter didn't buy him a new car, about
00:11:37suggesting he might take a year off.
00:11:40He's just got to keep fighting.
00:11:42And when they build those new casinos in the Detroit area, and he's from Michigan, he might
00:11:48be able to build the base of support that will get him those mega fights and mega dollars.
00:11:54This is the first time in Floyd's 21-fight professional career that he's had to fight a last-second
00:11:59throw-in.
00:12:00But he says, no problem.
00:12:02I had hundreds of amateur fights.
00:12:04And in the amateurs, you never know.
00:12:06You just go out and fight the guy in front of you.
00:12:14And once again, you know, many fighters, athletes believe that because they are as good as an
00:12:21athlete or better who is making a lot of money, that they automatically should get as much money
00:12:26because they don't understand the marketing and business side of the sport in which the
00:12:33amount of money you get is directly related to the number of tushes that you can put in
00:12:38seats.
00:12:40And hey, the solution is just keep winning, which Floyd has done beautifully so far.
00:12:45The World Title I with his victory over Gennaro Hernandez last year.
00:12:50Then the knockout of Angel Manfredi.
00:12:52That surprised a lot of people.
00:12:53Another fight in between getting ready for this one.
00:12:56Overall, he's 20-0 with 15 KOs.
00:12:58So you've seen the fighters walk in here at the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
00:13:02What do you think?
00:13:03Is that walk-in too long?
00:13:05Should we try to shorten it for the upcoming big fights here?
00:13:08While you're watching this upcoming bout, you can log on to www.hbo.com slash boxing to
00:13:14chat, score each round of tonight's action, and vote on whether you want to see the walk-ins
00:13:19shortened at the Mandalay Bay.
00:13:21Now let's go up to ring announcer Michael Buffer for the official introductions.
00:13:27Ladies and gentlemen, good evening and welcome to the fabulous Mandalay Bay Resort Casino here
00:13:34in Las Vegas, Nevada, where tonight Bob Arum's top rank incorporated the Las Vegas Hilton and
00:13:41the Mandalay Bay, along with your undisputed, undefeated king of beers, Budweiser.
00:13:48This Bud's for you.
00:13:50Present an evening of world championship boxing.
00:13:54Sanctioned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and the World Boxing Council.
00:13:59Before we continue, on behalf of top rank and court incorporated, belated birthday wishes
00:14:04to the greatest matchmaker in boxing history, Hall of Famer Teddy Brenner.
00:14:10The officials appointed for this bout at ringside are WBC supervisor, Mr. Frank Quill,
00:14:16the three judges scoring the contest on a 10-point must-system will be
00:14:20Anik Hamtamkan, John King, and Daniel Fondavilla, and your referee in charge of the action when the
00:14:29bell rings, Mitch Halpern.
00:14:31And now, ladies and gentlemen, from the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino of Las Vegas, 12 rounds
00:14:38of boxing for the WBC Super Featherweight Championship of the World.
00:14:50Introducing first, fighting out of the blue corner, wearing black, red, and yellow, and
00:14:55weighing 130 pounds, his professional record, an excellent one, 33 victories with 25 knockouts,
00:15:04only two defeats, and one draw.
00:15:07Ladies and gentlemen, from Masaka, Uganda, here is the challenger, the Ugandan destroyer,
00:15:14Justin Juco.
00:15:21And his opponent across the ring, fighting out of the red corner, wearing black trimmed
00:15:26with silver, weighing in at 130 pounds also.
00:15:31His professional record stands at a perfect 20 victories without a defeat, including 15 knockouts.
00:15:37And already, at this early stage of his career, he is regarded among the best as, pound for
00:15:44pound, one of the best in the world.
00:15:46Ladies and gentlemen, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, presenting the reigning and defending, undefeated,
00:15:54WBC Super Featherweight Champion of the World, pretty boy Floyd Mayweather.
00:16:11All right, gentlemen, let's keep this clean, obey my commands at all times.
00:16:14Touch gloves, good luck.
00:16:14Given all the violence that's been going on in the world since he last did a prize fight,
00:16:25it's nice to be just doing a little old boxing match.
00:16:29Justin Juco was to be trained tonight by the respected trainer, Freddie Roach.
00:16:35But Freddie Roach has another assignment simultaneously working down in Mexico with Johnny Tapia,
00:16:41who's preparing for a championship fight this morning.
00:16:43Freddie Roach worked Tappy out and then apparently missed his scheduled flight here to Las Vegas.
00:16:49So Juco works tonight without the trainer he's accustomed to in his corner.
00:16:54Ruben Gomez, the cut man, becomes the chief second in that corner.
00:16:57And George, that's got to be discouraging.
00:16:59Listen, it's awful difficult because you don't know.
00:17:01You need your motor to kind of clink things up.
00:17:04You don't have the trainer.
00:17:05You don't know when, what, and how to get started.
00:17:08So he's going to have some problems at first, especially in the first couple of rounds,
00:17:12if the fight can last that long with this left jab popping in the top of the head.
00:17:16Yeah, Mayweather is just really throwing a hard jab at Juco, landed five or six already.
00:17:22And Juco, who has been throwing in previous bouts upwards of 70 or 80 punches per round,
00:17:29won't approach that output number in this first round against Floyd Mayweather.
00:17:33It's hard to throw a lot of punches against a super-fast opponent like Floyd.
00:17:38Floyd has a convenience.
00:17:40He loves to watch punches pass him by and make you miss.
00:17:45Can't seem to function without it.
00:17:51Hard left hook.
00:17:53You can see that Floyd Mayweather can do so much off the front foot.
00:17:56He jabs beautifully.
00:17:58He has a quick lead left hook.
00:18:01He can follow with right hands over the top.
00:18:04Juco want to win this boxing match.
00:18:06He's kind of got, he's got to get wild a little bit.
00:18:08You can't just stay right there on the standard boxing.
00:18:13Move your right foot a little closer to your left foot so that you can hit him with your right hand.
00:18:18Sometimes the right foot is too far away.
00:18:20He's going to make you farther away when you throw the right hand.
00:18:23That was a good left jab to the chest.
00:18:26Good count.
00:18:26Counter left hand by Juco.
00:18:29Just misses with the right hand over the top.
00:18:33Juco looks quite relaxed in there and is starting to get off a little bit now in the second half of the round.
00:18:42You have a fight already planned.
00:18:43You go into training camp for a tough fight.
00:18:46Then all of a sudden you switch the opponents.
00:18:48That can really throw you off.
00:18:49So Mayweather is having to adjust a little bit too.
00:18:57Mayweather said he was in no way surprised that Gregorio Vargas dropped out of the bout.
00:19:03He said that when first he saw Vargas in a publicity outing for the bout a couple of weeks ago,
00:19:09Vargas looked to him like he weighed 160 pounds.
00:19:11And he was thinking, how is this guy possibly going to fight me?
00:19:15Vargas was thinking the same thing at that time.
00:19:19Guaranteed.
00:19:20How am I going to fight this guy?
00:19:22Mayweather said at first he didn't even realize that Vargas was the opponent because he looked in
00:19:27no way like what an opponent for 130-pound world championship fight ought to look at or look like
00:19:33that sort of period of time before the bout.
00:19:35That's a good one.
00:19:37That's a good one.
00:19:41Cautious workmanlike first round for Floyd Mayweather Jr.
00:19:43Floyd Mayweather Jr., Justin Juco throwing about half as many punches as has been the case
00:19:49against lesser opponents.
00:19:51And Floyd gets ready to listen to his dad, Floyd Mayweather Sr.
00:19:56It keeps in mind.
00:19:57Just keep...
00:19:58Don't even worry about it.
00:19:58Just keep doing what you're doing.
00:20:00Just keep doing what you're doing.
00:20:01Just keep doing what you're doing.
00:20:03OK.
00:20:12Yeah.
00:20:14Looking real good, baby.
00:20:15Just keep doing what you're doing.
00:20:16Sometimes you hear me coming up with the left hook.
00:20:19Big bang.
00:20:20OK.
00:20:20Looking good.
00:20:21I can drop that right hand on top of him.
00:20:23OK.
00:20:23No reason for him, no.
00:20:24You got a beautiful job, Justin.
00:20:30Let's use it, okay?
00:20:32Let's not wait.
00:20:33Let's go.
00:20:33It's going to work.
00:20:34All right.
00:20:35All right.
00:20:37Ruben Gomez.
00:20:41Talking to Justin Juco.
00:20:43Juco showed perhaps a little bit too much respect for Mayweather in the first round.
00:20:49Wanted to see what he had, and so he was hardly throwing that left jab.
00:20:52Let's see if he steps it up here.
00:20:54Let's go.
00:20:57Mayweather with a quick snapping overhand right to start out round number two.
00:21:02And already looking, he's just waiting for the jab to come over the top.
00:21:07Mayweather.
00:21:10Juco pounding to the body with a wide right.
00:21:15Mayweather's trying to look to get in the pocket now.
00:21:18He's been outside enough.
00:21:19Mayweather would like to slip just punches and be a little closer to his opponent.
00:21:23That's what he's doing now.
00:21:23He's not jumping far away now.
00:21:26A little left hook to the body by Mayweather landed.
00:21:31That's when you can roll the punches and you stay in the pocket.
00:21:34When you jump far away, the guy can't hit you, but nor can you return the punch.
00:21:38And as you start to get closer to your opponent and try to set up farther inside, it's always
00:21:43good to pound him to the body a couple of times to take the aggressiveness away.
00:21:46Now he's going to be very smart with body punches because he's fighting a quick guy.
00:21:53If you reach down there too much, if you reach down there too much, then he can get something else.
00:21:56So he'll use them selectively.
00:21:59Selectively.
00:21:59That's a great way to say it.
00:22:00He's looking at just a skid closer, closer, closer.
00:22:09When you do something, you've got to look at your opponent's shoulders now.
00:22:11Juco's got some big shoulders for that weight class.
00:22:15It's not like he's not going to have something when he throws a punch.
00:22:18He's also showing more defense than we were led to believe.
00:22:21According to Jeff Mayweather, who had sparked so often with him, that he had told Floyd that he throws so many hard punches that you can time him and he does have a lot of holes.
00:22:36So Juco here is perhaps aware of that relationship between the uncle and the nephew, and he is throwing fewer punches and being more resourceful.
00:22:47And maybe he's pacing himself that way too, because he faded in the late rounds of his preceding bout in 11th round TKO lost to Antonio Hernandez,
00:22:55in which Juco was leading on two scorecards at the time at which the fight was stopped.
00:23:00And so it's in his best interest to try to save something for the later rounds against Floyd, who for his part believes, based on what Uncle Jeff and Floyd Sr. have told him,
00:23:10that Juco will fade after a faster early pace.
00:23:13I think what has happened is, like a guy duck hunting, he's just waiting.
00:23:17You've got to wait, you can't hit anything.
00:23:19And you find yourself waiting too long.
00:23:22This guy is so fast, dynamic.
00:23:26Do you think you're going to miss?
00:23:27I'm going to miss this, so I'm just going to wait for a good shot.
00:23:39Right hand over the top lands for Juco.
00:23:42Second round, not a bad one for the Ugandan-Lasvegan challenger, Justin Juco.
00:23:52Meanwhile, Oscar De La Hoya with a little dance action in his dressing room.
00:23:58Oscar with a recording contract and singing lessons, but that's a different kind of music than what he's working with right here.
00:24:06And in the background, the smiling, clapping trainer, Robert Alcazar, seemingly moving ever closer to full control of the fighters' training regimen,
00:24:17as opposed to his situation in the past where he's had to work with, you know, Clancy, with Emanuel Stewart, with Jesus Rivero,
00:24:25with a variety of others who've been brought in to help De La Hoya.
00:24:28Well, good, Clancy is with him tonight.
00:24:32There have been verified reports that this will be Clancy's last appearance,
00:24:38which Oscar told us was not necessarily true.
00:24:46But Oscar did make it clear.
00:24:47I suspect it is.
00:24:48Yeah, Oscar did make it clear that, in his view,
00:24:51certain people are leaving the De La Hoya boat after this particular voyage.
00:24:54Part of his new transformation, he says he wants to cut his team down from about 20 to 4.
00:25:05Comedy Box numbers showing that Justin Juco is getting a little bit more comfortable.
00:25:08He only landed three punches in the first round, but landed 11 in round two,
00:25:13and actually threw four more punches than Floyd Mayweather.
00:25:16Floyd doesn't try to throw 65, 70 punches a round.
00:25:20He's pretty measured in his output.
00:25:21He's seen the rewards of being a puncher,
00:25:25so he believes that he can take you out any time.
00:25:29Good punch by Mayweather, just a little bit high.
00:25:34More and more, it looks as though that quick counter right hand
00:25:37over the top of Juco's jab is the primary item in the recipe for tonight.
00:25:43Kind of loads you a little bit.
00:25:45He doesn't do anything for a couple of minutes,
00:25:46and all of a sudden he unloads with something that shocks you.
00:25:49Makes you think you're slipping, but you're not slipping.
00:25:51You're hurt.
00:25:54Mayweather blocking or partially blocking all of Juco's shots here.
00:25:59Juco glancingly lands the right hand over the top,
00:26:02but he managed to do a lot of damage,
00:26:05and then Mayweather lands the right-hand counter.
00:26:07Mayweather's found a pocket now.
00:26:09He's not stepping and jumping back.
00:26:11He's getting closer.
00:26:11And that's what you don't want to happen.
00:26:15Juco is best to start moving and jabbing a bit more to throw him off rhythm.
00:26:19And you saw Floyd step right up in Juco's face,
00:26:23wait for him to throw the left hand, and then pop the right.
00:26:25Yeah, when that's happening to you,
00:26:27Juco now should start jabbing and moving out of the way
00:26:29and make him reestablish the pocket somewhere else.
00:26:31So step back a little bit and make him change.
00:26:39Juco can very well win.
00:26:41He got to think, I can win this thing, too.
00:26:42It's an opportunity.
00:26:43It's an opportunity.
00:26:43Sometimes you can get into a fight
00:26:56with a fast, classy guy like Mayweather
00:26:59and start looking just like the audience.
00:27:02Forgetting that you came here to win.
00:27:11Again, the right-hand counter over the top.
00:27:13Mayweather dropping and splitting his hands from time to time,
00:27:18trying to invite Juco to come in.
00:27:22Juco best start moving around, do something,
00:27:24just to change things up,
00:27:26make Mayweather reach at him a little bit and miss.
00:27:30And that's exactly what Jeff Mayweather told his nephew
00:27:33that Juco would do,
00:27:35that he would do the same thing round after round,
00:27:37and he would give Floyd a chance to time him.
00:27:41Hands up, guys.
00:27:42Hands up.
00:27:43That was the first time
00:28:00that you act like you really wanted to fight.
00:28:03You know what I mean?
00:28:04Up until that time,
00:28:06you had not been doing anything.
00:28:08Double up on the jab, right-hand, left hook.
00:28:09Put your punches together, son.
00:28:11No sense in waiting.
00:28:13Hey, this is do or die.
00:28:14This is championship time.
00:28:15You understand?
00:28:16Let's take care of business, okay?
00:28:18All right, then.
00:28:20No problem.
00:28:20Keep your hands up.
00:28:22He feints you, you feint him back.
00:28:24It's clear that Mayweather has been looking to hurt Juco with the right hand.
00:28:31He's been throwing it over that left,
00:28:34whether or not Juco tosses it out there or not.
00:28:39But so far, he's unable to catch Juco while he's on the way in,
00:28:44and so the punches have not had the desired impact.
00:28:49Harold, how do you have it through three?
00:28:51Jim, three to nothing, 30 to 27, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
00:28:55Jim, what I love about him is, you know,
00:28:57we always talk about ring generalship.
00:28:59In the first round, Mayweather had Justin Juco looking for left jab,
00:29:03and then he gave him that variety.
00:29:05He started throwing right-hand leads in the second round.
00:29:08He switched to southpaw.
00:29:09He threw left hooks underneath.
00:29:11So he's showing Juco such a variety.
00:29:13Juco just doesn't know what to look for,
00:29:15and that's great ring generalship.
00:29:17The judges have to consider that.
00:29:22Mayweather landing a little left hook inside.
00:29:25Missing with the right as Juco backed away.
00:29:27Now Juco getting more aggressive,
00:29:28and Floyd gets a chance to crack him.
00:29:31Two right hands.
00:29:33That last right hand might have gotten Mayweather's attention a little bit,
00:29:37but it also gets him riled up to land his own.
00:29:42You've got to learn in this weight division, especially Mayweather's,
00:29:45you just can't let those guys hit on you,
00:29:47especially around your side and your body.
00:29:50The fight goes on five, six rounds.
00:29:52The energy that you thought you had has already evaporated.
00:29:57He's allowed him to jab him in his chest now.
00:30:00No, you don't need that.
00:30:01Jab in the chest, jab in the belly.
00:30:06Good hard digging left hook to the body by Mayweather.
00:30:09Juco comes back with a right-hand shot to the body himself.
00:30:12Mitch Halpern says keep him up.
00:30:17Boy, right uppercut.
00:30:19Just a tiny bit short.
00:30:20I like everything that Mayweather's doing,
00:30:26but allowing himself to be hit around the side of the chest.
00:30:29Not good.
00:30:34Like that?
00:30:35It looks as though he's waiting for Juco to do something
00:30:38so he can counter it.
00:30:39But in the meantime, he sometimes allows himself to be hit.
00:30:44If the fight goes beyond six rounds,
00:30:46then all those little punches count up.
00:30:50Juco is solid.
00:30:52He's not the best, but he's solid at what he does.
00:30:54Yeah, you know, but Mayweather has got so much talent,
00:30:58you know, so much zest for the game.
00:31:00It's just a question of how he's going to win this fight
00:31:06rather than whether he is going to win this fight.
00:31:10But when you're a solid fighter like that,
00:31:11you get thrown out four or five rounds.
00:31:13You can really pick up things in the sixth, seventh round.
00:31:18That's the way you beat talented fighters.
00:31:21Let them use their talent against themselves.
00:31:30Tonight on HBO's World Championship Boxing,
00:31:39you're looking at two of the very best
00:31:40pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.
00:31:42Floyd Mayweather in this bout.
00:31:44Oscar De La Hoya later to come this evening.
00:31:47In the next two weeks, more of the same.
00:31:50Next week, from San Juan, Puerto Rico,
00:31:53De La Hoya's welterweight foil,
00:31:55Felix Trinidad in a title defense
00:31:57against Hugo Vineda of Colombia.
00:32:00And then on June 5,
00:32:03Roy Jones against Reggie Johnson.
00:32:06The winner of that bout
00:32:07will be the unified light heavyweight champion,
00:32:11the holder of all three significant belts.
00:32:14And, of course, both Trinidad and Roy Jones
00:32:16figure along with Mayweather
00:32:17and De La Hoya
00:32:18in the pound-for-pound sweepstakes, Larry.
00:32:20Yeah, we're going to have four of the best fighters
00:32:22in the world pound-for-pound
00:32:23within a two-week period
00:32:24in no particular order.
00:32:26Here are the top five.
00:32:28Bernard Hopkins in there,
00:32:29surprisingly to many,
00:32:30but because he's been the dominant middleweight
00:32:32of the last half of the 90s.
00:32:34And in the lowerweight divisions,
00:32:35Mayweather, Mark Johnson, Morales,
00:32:38Hamed,
00:32:39all very good fighters.
00:32:41Two or three of them may emerge as great fighters.
00:32:43Copy box numbers for round number four.
00:32:47Floyd Mayweather landing nearly 60%,
00:32:5022 out of 38.
00:32:52But Justin Juco much more active,
00:32:54throwing 61 punches and landing 21.
00:32:57So Juco's beginning to make a fight of it now
00:32:59against Mayweather as we go to the fifth.
00:33:03Juco jumps off his corner.
00:33:05His eyes are not dim.
00:33:07Spirit is still up.
00:33:08That's not good for Mayweather.
00:33:11You know, looking at him,
00:33:13I can't help but think of his countryman,
00:33:15John Mugabe,
00:33:16who gave Marvin Hagler
00:33:18one of the best fights
00:33:19I've had in his career here in Las Vegas
00:33:21back in the 80s.
00:33:25If they've come over from Uganda
00:33:27and they've made a professional life here,
00:33:29they must have a lot of toughness to begin with.
00:33:31After you've devastated a guy
00:33:38and what in the fashion Mayweather's done early on,
00:33:41his eyes should be looking to the floor,
00:33:43he should be watching his corner men
00:33:45to see how he feels,
00:33:46but that has not happened to him.
00:33:49Well, this is a terrific opportunity.
00:33:51First of all,
00:33:51he's making more money by far
00:33:53than he's ever made in his life
00:33:54and reported $75,000.
00:33:57And it's a terrific opportunity
00:33:59to get exposure.
00:34:00And if he makes a good showing,
00:34:02we could see him again.
00:34:04So he's got all the motivation in the world.
00:34:06And if he loses,
00:34:07well, he's taking the fight on three days' notice.
00:34:10Some of the people
00:34:11who work to help Gregorio Vargas
00:34:14get the chance to fight in this fight
00:34:16were infuriated
00:34:17that he chose to drop out on such short notice.
00:34:19And one of them even piped up and said,
00:34:21I hope he never gets a chance like that again.
00:34:24Meanwhile, I think the consensus
00:34:25of experts at ringside would be
00:34:27that Juco is probably
00:34:29a tougher opponent for Mayweather
00:34:30at this moment in his career
00:34:32than Mark has turned in.
00:34:33I want you to know
00:34:34this fight has turned already
00:34:35while we were doing all the talking.
00:34:36Yep.
00:34:37It's a different fight already.
00:34:38Because Juco's getting comfortable.
00:34:40Yeah.
00:34:40And he's been able to get in
00:34:42some of those shots,
00:34:42and it's because of the earlier body punching.
00:34:46What?
00:34:46Now Floyd Mayweather rocks him
00:34:48back with a right hand.
00:34:50And Floyd,
00:34:51who was able to finish
00:34:52against Angel Manfredi
00:34:53with the help of a questionable stoppage
00:34:56down in Florida,
00:34:57looks for a moment
00:34:58to try to do the same
00:34:59against Juco,
00:35:00but then goes back into the pocket
00:35:01and gets back to business.
00:35:04And he's got to understand, Mayweather,
00:35:06if you get an opportunity
00:35:07to get a knockout,
00:35:07you better do it.
00:35:08You can't play with these guys.
00:35:11Juco better take advantage
00:35:12of his opportunity
00:35:13and may not come back
00:35:14in the next two rounds.
00:35:14So you'd like to see both men
00:35:19be more aggressive right now.
00:35:20Yeah, Juco especially.
00:35:22Mayweather throws his right hand
00:35:23and does not come back
00:35:24with the left hook,
00:35:25and he gets caught every time.
00:35:27Justin Juco seems to be saying
00:35:29to Floyd Mayweather,
00:35:30if you're going to let me
00:35:31hit you in the body,
00:35:32I'm taking advantage of that.
00:35:34I will accept that invitation.
00:35:37He's able to get closer and closer
00:35:39with that right hand
00:35:40on Mayweather already.
00:35:42Mayweather doing a little bit
00:35:44of clowning and mugging
00:35:45for Juco in there.
00:35:47But that was not a bad round
00:35:48for the former Ugandan fighter
00:35:50who now lives right here in Vegas.
00:35:54Every round is easy.
00:35:56Every round is easy, baby.
00:35:58It's your money, it's your show.
00:36:01Okay?
00:36:03You look real good that round.
00:36:04Only thing I need from you, man,
00:36:07is to bring the left hook back.
00:36:08That's all I'm asking for.
00:36:09I'm trying, baby.
00:36:10You ain't trying.
00:36:11You ain't through it yet.
00:36:12How you trying?
00:36:12You got to throw it
00:36:13before we know he's trying.
00:36:14You know what you're doing, baby?
00:36:15You're pussing too much.
00:36:16You're pussing too much.
00:36:17You're pussing too much.
00:36:17You're pussing too much.
00:36:17You're letting him get off.
00:36:18These guys, this guy, you...
00:36:19Not hitting you.
00:36:20You let him get away.
00:36:21Yep.
00:36:22You let him get away.
00:36:23Okay, he's left.
00:36:23Okay.
00:36:24Move towards your right, okay?
00:36:26No, your right, not your left.
00:36:29Don't wait on this guy.
00:36:30As we noted earlier,
00:36:32Mayweather has been right-hand conscious
00:36:34in this fight.
00:36:35It's been his most effective punch,
00:36:36but you heard him say
00:36:37when Floyd Mayweather Sr. said,
00:36:40you got to throw that left a little bit more.
00:36:42He says, I am, Daddy.
00:36:43Oh, he's trying.
00:36:45Or I'm trying,
00:36:45but Daddy says, no, you ain't.
00:36:49Look for more left hooks.
00:36:52And there's something to hear a fighter say,
00:36:53no, Daddy.
00:36:56Sounds like me at home.
00:37:05Now, when Mayweather waits around
00:37:07and does nothing,
00:37:08this guy takes advantage of it.
00:37:10He'll take anything.
00:37:16He'll take that little jab to the body
00:37:18if Mayweather keeps making it available.
00:37:20And it helps.
00:37:20It helps.
00:37:23Chico doubling and tripling up
00:37:26on the jabs now.
00:37:28Mayweather still conscious
00:37:29of trying to land right-hand shots
00:37:31across the top of Chico's left.
00:37:34The memory was what his dad said,
00:37:36to come back with the hook.
00:37:37He did it this time.
00:37:38There it was.
00:37:38To the body.
00:37:40You got to come back,
00:37:41finish up with the hook
00:37:42to get yourself back in position,
00:37:43number one.
00:37:44And then secondly,
00:37:45if the other shot has hurt the guy,
00:37:46this would finish him off.
00:37:48The left hook.
00:37:53If you're going to fight a style like Mayweather,
00:38:08you can't go to a party ever.
00:38:10You've been training all year round.
00:38:16You cannot have a party in your life
00:38:19until your career is over.
00:38:20Go, Larry.
00:38:21If you live in Las Vegas,
00:38:22that's not very likely, George.
00:38:25It better be.
00:38:26Well, Mayweather's father
00:38:28spent three and a half years in prison
00:38:30for drug possession,
00:38:32but virtually everybody around Floyd agrees
00:38:35that when Floyd Sr. came out
00:38:37of the big house last year,
00:38:38that stabilized Mayweather's personal life
00:38:41and kept him from messing around too much.
00:38:43No, and so there's a solid,
00:38:45stable community in Las Vegas.
00:38:47The people here are real solid.
00:38:51Mayweather landing more power shots
00:38:53in this round.
00:38:54And looking as though he's beginning
00:38:57to try to break Juco down technically.
00:39:00Now, it seems to be he's enforced
00:39:02his will on Juco now.
00:39:05Turn the tide again.
00:39:09Now, Juco is waiting while Mayweather's waiting.
00:39:13Before him, when Mayweather would wait,
00:39:15he would do something.
00:39:19Four shots to the body by Juco.
00:39:21This is when you say to yourself
00:39:41when you're fighting someone like Mayweather,
00:39:42man, strictly man.
00:39:48Nothing else.
00:39:49Say that in the middle of the fight, dude.
00:39:51Right at the end of six.
00:39:52Here's Oba Khan.
00:39:53He's struck down a serpent
00:39:54at the epitome of destruction.
00:39:57Just touched the hem of his garment.
00:40:00In turn of the jets,
00:40:01I've come and acclaimed the works of art.
00:40:04Let loose the weight.
00:40:05The instas keeping up player haters in the spell.
00:40:08The flesh shows the evidence
00:40:10of being released from the dungeon of hell.
00:40:14The Motor City.
00:40:15Flush right hand by Mayweather.
00:40:28Juco is a tough hombre.
00:40:30And in that round,
00:40:36Juco released 80 punches.
00:40:38So he has now arrived
00:40:41at the level of punch output
00:40:42that he put forth
00:40:45in his last several bouts coming in here.
00:40:48It's one thing to throw 80 punches around
00:40:49against Antonio Hernandez
00:40:51or the lesser opponents Juco was fighting before.
00:40:54Yet another to try it against a guy
00:40:56like Floyd Mayweather.
00:40:57Harold, how do you have it through six?
00:41:00Jim, five runs to one.
00:41:0259-55, Lloyd Mayweather.
00:41:05Jim, on it, there's him.
00:41:06Justin Juco has never seen a fighter
00:41:08with a variety of punches
00:41:09like this kid has had.
00:41:10And that's what's killing him.
00:41:11Floyd lands and he lands solid.
00:41:13You don't know what he's going to throw.
00:41:15Beautiful double left hooks.
00:41:16Right hand leads it.
00:41:18Just, I mean, that right hand lead
00:41:19in the sixth round
00:41:19nearly took the guy's head off.
00:41:21Incidentally, Mitch Alpert
00:41:22rightly has warned Justin Juco
00:41:24four times already for low blows.
00:41:27None of it seemed to be terribly low.
00:41:31No, I didn't think so either.
00:41:33Juco, if you want to win this fight, man,
00:41:35you got to get active.
00:41:36Just can't see how went the distance
00:41:38with Mayweather and think you earned something.
00:41:44Juco misses with a right over the top
00:41:46and Mayweather comes back
00:41:47with a right uppercut
00:41:48and that sets off this flurry.
00:41:51Juco, if you want to win this fight,
00:41:53you got to get them.
00:42:00Come on, go.
00:42:12What Mayweather is doing takes a lot of condition
00:42:23Because he still has to snap in his left jab
00:42:27Bounces whenever he wants
00:42:30And he's taking a lot of body shots
00:42:32And his eyes are his best weapon
00:42:35George, he's 22 years old
00:42:38Yeah, but I know a lot of guys
00:42:41He's 19, he can't do this
00:42:43Age is not about age
00:42:46He just watches, stands right on the ball
00:42:56Like on your mark
00:42:57That's what you want a fighter to do
00:42:59You say to himself, get on your mark
00:43:01Just like a trike runner
00:43:03On your mark, get set
00:43:05He's doing it, he's standing right on the mark
00:43:07And right hand leads and left hooks
00:43:09Have backed Juco up and put Floyd totally in command
00:43:12Of this seventh round
00:43:14Now Juco lands a big right hand over the top
00:43:16And Floyd sticks his tongue out of it
00:43:19That hurt, that's why
00:43:20He baited him into that punch
00:43:24He was saying, come on, come on
00:43:26Left himself open, put a straight right hand
00:43:29Juco may not be the best one
00:43:33But he's solid
00:43:33He's not going to disappear
00:43:34And stop throwing punches
00:43:36Now you begin to come back with that hook
00:43:45That's what I want
00:44:00You get that thing over with now
00:44:03You ain't buckling with one shot
00:44:05You're buckling and KOing with the next
00:44:07You're grouping him up now
00:44:09That's what we want
00:44:09That's the eighth round right here
00:44:10Listen to us
00:44:13Justin, we got you throw punches
00:44:17Okay, see he didn't like it
00:44:18When you heard him, he didn't like it
00:44:19Get back right away, okay
00:44:20You put the pressure on this guy
00:44:22We got to take the title from him, okay
00:44:24The only way we're going to do it
00:44:26Is by going after him
00:44:27Mayweather has won some high praises
00:44:30Juco doesn't seem to be that impressed
00:44:32Comes back with a clean right hand
00:44:34And later in the round
00:44:36He tries it again
00:44:38And comes up again
00:44:39Mayweather took the punches well
00:44:41But after throwing 80 punches
00:44:46In the preceding round
00:44:48Juco dropped only 53 punches
00:44:50In that one
00:44:51No doubt
00:44:53But the product of getting hit
00:44:54By all those hard right hands
00:44:56And left hooks
00:44:57That Floyd Mayweather delivered
00:44:59You know what I'm wondering
00:45:00Is where's
00:45:01Mayweather landed some beautiful
00:45:04Left jabs early in the fight
00:45:05He's gone back to it right now
00:45:07But it hasn't been there
00:45:08He could use that left hand
00:45:11And work off that
00:45:12But he doesn't seem to like to do that
00:45:14No, he's not a jabber
00:45:16He has a good jab
00:45:17But that's not his thing
00:45:18He likes to get real close
00:45:21Just watch the guy drop his hand or so
00:45:23And then take advantage of it
00:45:24Because as you said
00:45:25George, he has those amazing eyes
00:45:27And quick reflexes
00:45:29Some guys just throw shots
00:45:32Whether they can see it or not
00:45:33Or they do it because they're trained to do it
00:45:35But this guy actually watches it
00:45:37Like an airline pilot
00:45:38One of those bummers
00:45:40Guys flying those
00:45:41Fast planes
00:45:44And Juco can still pull this thing out
00:45:50What I do is go to the body for a while
00:45:53Get this guy to drop his hands and relax
00:45:55And then go back up
00:45:56Upstairs for a while
00:45:57I love your optimism, George
00:46:00Because he's landed by the punches
00:46:03To do as much
00:46:04Well, maybe you're right
00:46:06But I mean
00:46:07Will he get to the last
00:46:08Third of the fight?
00:46:14Boyd Mayweather
00:46:15Putting a little more mustard
00:46:16On his power punches now
00:46:18And rounding them out
00:46:19A little more
00:46:19As he tries to
00:46:20Fulfill his father's prophecy
00:46:23That he can get Juco out of there
00:46:25Mayweather's one of those guys
00:46:29You know
00:46:29They sign him to a football contract
00:46:31Early on as a rookie
00:46:32Then they don't give him
00:46:33What they want right off
00:46:34He didn't have trouble later on
00:46:36So this guy
00:46:37He's a star
00:46:38You better pay him
00:46:38If you tuned in late
00:46:41You've read your program guide
00:46:43And you're wondering
00:46:44Which guy is Gregorio Vargas
00:46:46He isn't here
00:46:47He dropped out of the fight
00:46:49On Wednesday
00:46:49And the gentleman
00:46:50In the strike trunks
00:46:51Is Justin Juco
00:46:52A brave last minute throw in
00:46:55Who is fighting well
00:46:56And giving Floyd Mayweather
00:46:58Some competition
00:46:59Albeit falling short
00:47:00Of winning rounds
00:47:01Against Mayweather
00:47:02Who is dominating the bout
00:47:04This is the way
00:47:08The opportunity that you want
00:47:10To fight a great champion
00:47:11And he expect you
00:47:12Not to be in shape
00:47:13You take the fight
00:47:14On a short notice
00:47:14And you get in there
00:47:15And upset it
00:47:16That's what every fighter wants
00:47:18Well Juco has already
00:47:19Won his battle
00:47:21For at least some respect
00:47:23Taking a fight
00:47:24You know
00:47:2572 hours before the fight
00:47:28Hanging in there
00:47:29With an extraordinarily gifted fighter
00:47:32Another give and take flurry
00:47:45To NBA
00:47:46Justin Juco
00:47:48Isn't gone yet
00:47:50Some juice
00:47:53Join us Tuesday
00:47:56At 10 o'clock
00:47:56Eastern Pacific
00:47:57For the premiere of Real Sports
00:47:58With Bryant Gumbel
00:47:59Some of the stories
00:48:00Will feature
00:48:01Golden Gloves
00:48:01Boxing champion
00:48:02Elvir Mariki
00:48:03A Balkan immigrant
00:48:04Who's father and sister
00:48:05Have returned to Albania
00:48:06In their fight
00:48:07Against the Serbs
00:48:08A look at hockey goons
00:48:10In which we'll follow
00:48:11On and off the ice
00:48:12Two paid enforcers
00:48:14Tony Twist
00:48:15And Stu Grimson
00:48:15Plus
00:48:16A report on
00:48:17A sports riot
00:48:18And on the
00:48:19Violence
00:48:19That sometimes occurs
00:48:21When normal law
00:48:22Abiding citizens
00:48:23Go on a wild rampage
00:48:24After a major sports event
00:48:26Real sports
00:48:27Where nothing
00:48:28Is out of bounds
00:48:29He's walking on
00:48:31The back of the hill
00:48:31He's walking on
00:48:33The back of the hill
00:48:33When you get him
00:48:35Keep jumping on him
00:48:36Seconds out
00:48:37One time
00:48:39Mouthpiece
00:48:39Well we're seeing
00:48:52An abundant
00:48:54Display of
00:48:56Mayweather's
00:48:57Many talents
00:48:59But
00:48:59He hasn't been able
00:49:01To
00:49:02Dramatize them
00:49:04With a
00:49:05Stunning victory
00:49:06Here
00:49:07Or
00:49:07Putting on
00:49:10Some drama
00:49:10And theater
00:49:11For us
00:49:12You think that
00:49:13Hurts him at all
00:49:13George
00:49:15It really doesn't
00:49:17Help things
00:49:18You want to go out
00:49:19There
00:49:19You say you want
00:49:19A lot of money
00:49:20You say you deserve it
00:49:21Give us something
00:49:22And this is tonight
00:49:23Give us a knockout
00:49:24A clean knockout
00:49:25And maybe we'll
00:49:26Buy a stock
00:49:26Well he certainly gave
00:49:29The boxing public
00:49:31Everything it could
00:49:32Have hoped for
00:49:32In his tremendous
00:49:34Performance against
00:49:35Genaro Hernandez
00:49:36And his stunning
00:49:37Second round
00:49:38TKO of
00:49:39Angel Manfredi
00:49:40But then he went
00:49:41The distance
00:49:41With Carlos Rios
00:49:42In a tune-up bout
00:49:44Prior to this one
00:49:44And now
00:49:46There's every chance
00:49:46He might go the distance
00:49:47With
00:49:48Justin Juko
00:49:49You know
00:49:50There's absolutely nothing
00:49:51Juko is hurt
00:49:53By that right hand
00:49:54Just as I said
00:49:56It might go the distance
00:49:57Of course
00:49:57Floyd
00:49:58Hammers Juko
00:49:59With two right hands
00:50:00And Mitch
00:50:01Halfren counts
00:50:02And Juko
00:50:03Doesn't look like
00:50:05He wants to go on
00:50:06He doesn't know
00:50:08Where he is
00:50:08It happens like that
00:50:09Later
00:50:09So once again
00:50:10He gave it to
00:50:12The way that Trump
00:50:13Does
00:50:13Just as we were
00:50:14Speculating
00:50:15I'm buying that stock
00:50:16On whether he could
00:50:17Put a dramatic
00:50:18Ending to this fight
00:50:20With a flourish
00:50:21Just as I said
00:50:22A knockout
00:50:23Is certain here
00:50:24And has been inevitable
00:50:25From the beginning
00:50:26Of the fight
00:50:27Now that's when
00:50:28You want to go buy
00:50:29The stock
00:50:29This guy's a star
00:50:30I'm telling you
00:50:30Sign him up
00:50:31Pay him now
00:50:32Or pay for it later
00:50:3315 seconds ago
00:50:35George
00:50:35You were wondering
00:50:36Whether it was
00:50:38A worthwhile stock
00:50:39And here you are
00:50:40You're in the bull market
00:50:41That's right
00:50:42That's the way it goes
00:50:43That's what knockouts do
00:50:45That's the way it goes
00:50:46A knockout
00:50:46Will do it every time
00:50:47It only takes 15 seconds
00:50:49To knock a man out
00:50:50If you land the right punches
00:50:51And he did
00:50:53Punches is the correct way
00:50:55To say it
00:50:56Boom
00:50:56Plural
00:50:57He kept throwing
00:50:58Another look at
00:51:06Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s
00:51:07Right hands
00:51:07That ended the bout
00:51:08That was the second
00:51:13Of two thunderous
00:51:13Right hands
00:51:14One
00:51:18Two
00:51:19He didn't recover
00:51:22From right there
00:51:23Yeah
00:51:23Three
00:51:24That's it
00:51:25So there were
00:51:25Three right hands
00:51:26That did it
00:51:27And now
00:51:30One of the women
00:51:32In the Mayweather entourage
00:51:34Has collapsed
00:51:35In the ring
00:51:36His poor mother
00:51:38I'm not sure
00:51:41Whether that's
00:51:41Floyd Jr.'s mother
00:51:42Or grandmother
00:51:43I think maybe
00:51:44It's the grandmother
00:51:45I think that might
00:51:46Be his grandmother
00:51:47She should lay there
00:51:49For a second
00:51:49Maybe too much
00:51:53Excitement
00:51:54She's been seated
00:51:56At ringside
00:51:56Right behind us
00:51:57Enjoying the bout
00:51:58With the other members
00:52:00Of her family
00:52:01She had a lot of us sons
00:52:02To be boxers
00:52:03Now all of a sudden
00:52:04She has a grandson
00:52:05To embrace
00:52:06And she want to enjoy
00:52:07And that's what happens
00:52:09And you saw Floyd Mayweather
00:52:20Senior looking on
00:52:21I'm strongly of the opinion
00:52:23Without knowing for
00:52:24A thousand percent certainty
00:52:26Or a hundred percent certainty
00:52:27I'm strongly of the opinion
00:52:28This is that man
00:52:30Floyd Mayweather's mother
00:52:32No doubt about it
00:52:33And Floyd Jr.'s grandmother
00:52:34Who was on the floor
00:52:35You know that for a fact
00:52:36Her name is Bernice
00:52:39And let's hope
00:52:42That all goes well
00:52:43Obviously
00:52:45Her lips are moving
00:52:47And her fingers are
00:52:48On one side
00:52:50So it would appear
00:52:51That she's talking
00:52:51And of course
00:52:57Dr. Flip Homansky
00:52:58Is right there
00:53:00At her side
00:53:00There's no shortage
00:53:02Of medical care here
00:53:03And obviously
00:53:04There's a paramedical setup
00:53:06In case of
00:53:06An injury to fighters
00:53:08Or something else
00:53:09Of that nature
00:53:09And you can see
00:53:10That she's going to be treated
00:53:12Immediately here in the ring
00:53:13So as Bernice Mayweather
00:53:23Is dealt with
00:53:24And we'll monitor
00:53:27That situation for you
00:53:28A couple of final comments
00:53:30On the bout
00:53:31Take a look at
00:53:32Punch stat numbers
00:53:33And you can see
00:53:34That Justin Jucco
00:53:36Threw 103 more punches
00:53:38But landed 62 fewer
00:53:40As Floyd Mayweather Jr.
00:53:43With his enormous hand speed
00:53:44Was able to land
00:53:45At a 54% rate
00:53:47You got that kind of speed
00:53:50And there is Floyd Jr.
00:53:59Making certain
00:54:02That his grandmother
00:54:03Is okay
00:54:03You can see
00:54:04The emotion
00:54:05In his eyes
00:54:06Guys
00:54:09Lock that hole in here
00:54:11I was okay
00:54:13I'm sorry
00:54:19I'm sorry
00:54:19I'm sorry
00:54:20I'm sorry
00:54:20I'm sorry
00:54:21I'm sorry
00:54:22I'm sorry
00:54:22I'm sorry
00:54:23I'm sorry
00:54:24I'm sorry
00:54:24I think you are
00:54:25You're warm and dry
00:54:26I'm going to help you down
00:54:31In just a second
00:54:32Okay
00:54:32All right
00:54:33What we'd like to do
00:54:34We're going to just
00:54:35Have her stand up
00:54:36If she feels okay
00:54:37We're going to help her
00:54:38Out of the ring
00:54:39Michael Buffer
00:54:43Patiently waiting
00:54:44To give you
00:54:45The official particulars
00:54:47On the TKO
00:54:48And now Bernice stands up
00:54:53So far so good
00:54:55Okay
00:54:59Are you seeing if she feels
00:55:01You okay
00:55:02Look at Blomansky being
00:55:03Very careful
00:55:04With him
00:55:04Someone should embrace
00:55:05Her a little bit
00:55:06There's her son
00:55:09Who better to help her
00:55:10Down the steps
00:55:11Huh
00:55:11The old poem is
00:55:14The old poem is
00:55:15Love her
00:55:15As when young
00:55:16Though old, feeble, and gray
00:55:18So you'll never miss
00:55:19The mother's love
00:55:20Until she's buried
00:55:20The need to claim
00:55:21And this is the time
00:55:23To love her
00:55:24There's nothing wrong
00:55:24With her mother's
00:55:25Painting in the ring
00:55:26Enjoy that
00:55:27A scary moment
00:55:30For all concerned
00:55:31But it looks like
00:55:31Everything's going to be okay
00:55:32And now let's go up
00:55:36To Michael Buffer
00:55:36For the official particulars
00:55:38On Floyd's victory
00:55:38Ladies and gentlemen
00:55:41Referee Mitch Halpern
00:55:42Reaches the count of ten
00:55:43At one minute
00:55:44Twenty seconds
00:55:45Of round number nine
00:55:46The winner by knockout victory
00:55:48Still the undefeated
00:55:50WBC super featherweight
00:55:52Champion of the world
00:55:53Pretty boy Floyd Mayweather
00:55:58And Larry Merchant
00:56:08Now in the ring
00:56:09With the winner
00:56:09Thank you very much
00:56:11Followers
00:56:12Floyd
00:56:12Can you tell us
00:56:14Did you say something
00:56:15To your grandmother
00:56:15Or did she say something
00:56:16To you
00:56:17Or she was just
00:56:18Overtaken with excitement
00:56:20Well first of all
00:56:21I want to thank God
00:56:21For this victory
00:56:22And I want to say
00:56:23That my grandmother
00:56:24Just was a little
00:56:25Anxious tonight
00:56:25To get in here
00:56:26And see me
00:56:27She was happy
00:56:27That I got the victory
00:56:28So I guess she lost a little oxygen
00:56:30So she's going to be okay
00:56:33Just hyperventilated a little bit there
00:56:35It's kind of hot in here
00:56:36It's cool
00:56:36You put a lot of pressure on yourself
00:56:39Because you feel you're a great fighter
00:56:41Not getting all the recognition you deserve
00:56:43You feel you have to close the show
00:56:46The way you finally were able to close it tonight
00:56:48I mean
00:56:49Justin Jugo was a very tough opponent
00:56:50He came in at the last minute
00:56:51But he was already training for a tough fight
00:56:54But I took my time
00:56:55Stay focused
00:56:57Kept my composure
00:56:58And listened to my corner
00:56:58And I got the job done
00:57:00Let's take a look
00:57:01Your right hand seemed to be
00:57:02The punch that you felt
00:57:05You could land all the time tonight
00:57:07Tell us about it
00:57:08What were you looking for?
00:57:09I was just using a pull counter
00:57:11And the shot was landing all night
00:57:14I was just taking my time
00:57:15You know
00:57:15Using my shoulder
00:57:16You know
00:57:17Landing smart shots
00:57:18Were you surprised
00:57:19That he was as tough as he was
00:57:21Given the short notice
00:57:23He took this fight on
00:57:24But Jugo was already training for a fight
00:57:25He was going to fight a week after this
00:57:26I knew he was going to be a tough opponent
00:57:28But I just took my time
00:57:30Listen to my corner
00:57:31I just want to say
00:57:31I'm happy to be fighting on HBO
00:57:33I want to thank top rank
00:57:34And everybody for giving me this opportunity
00:57:35To fight one of the best out there
00:57:37Thank you very much Floyd
00:57:38Thank you
00:57:39We'll be seeing you soon
00:57:40Jim
00:57:41Jim
00:57:42All right
00:57:44So another victory for Floyd Mayweather
00:57:46Who goes to 21-0
00:57:48With 16 KOs
00:57:49George
00:57:50He's four pounds north of Prince Nassim Hamed
00:57:54There's a lot of money in that matchup
00:57:55But it may never happen
00:57:56He's five pounds south of Shane Mosley
00:57:59There's a lot of money in that matchup
00:58:00But it probably will never happen
00:58:02Likely he's going to be fighting
00:58:04A lot of lesser named opponents
00:58:06For a while
00:58:07At 130 pounds
00:58:08And he's going to have to be patient
00:58:09About his level of superstardom
00:58:11Well
00:58:12Like you said
00:58:13Everything you said is right
00:58:14Once again
00:58:15But this guy's got time on his side
00:58:17He's only going to get better
00:58:18Only a little few over 20 boxing matches
00:58:21We haven't seen the best of him yet
00:58:23He's going to move up
00:58:24Probably move down
00:58:25And conquer the whole world
00:58:26He may even be a heavyweight
00:58:28Good test tonight
00:58:29Against Justin Jukovic
00:58:29But he deserves the money now
00:58:30He needs to be paid
00:58:31Well
00:58:32And I'm sure
00:58:33Those people who are responsible
00:58:35For writing those checks
00:58:36Are going to do their best
00:58:37Larry Merchant
00:58:38To make an
00:58:39Yeah Larry
00:58:41Get ready to write a check
00:58:43I'm sure you will
00:58:46I'm going to give him 10 million
00:58:47I'll give him 10 million
00:58:48Be careful what you say
00:58:49You be very careful what you say
00:58:50All right
00:58:51So still to come tonight
