Dans la moiteur de Singapour, Léon Marchand a offert à la natation française une nouvelle démonstration de force. Après des séries brouillonnes le matin (7e temps en 4'13''19), le Toulousain a retrouvé son éclat en finale du 400 mètres 4 nages. Survolant la course de bout en bout, Léon Marchand décroche l'or en 4'04''73.
