00:00Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the most shocking moments
00:09from the Pokemon anime and it's spin-offs that sparked the most outrage, delight, memes
00:15or discussion on the internet when it aired.
00:2610. Clash of the Charizards
00:33Ever since the Fire Lizard debuted in the anime and caused Ash a lot of havoc, Charizard has
00:39been a fan favorite. So when 2013's Pokemon X and Y came out and the Pseudo Dragon was
00:46getting two mega evolutions, we were excited. Then the episode A League of His Own was aired,
00:53which gave us the Charizard battle of all time as X took on Y. Armed with Mega Charizard X,
01:00Alain took on Trevor's Mega Charizard Y in the top 64 bouts for the Lumiose Conference in Kalos.
01:07After a drawn out battle with the Behemoth slugging it out, Alain's Charizard overcame its mega rival
01:14and then took out the rest of Trevor's team to advance in the tournament.
01:269. Ash Challenges Mewtwo
01:28Old-school Pokemon fans still remember where they were upon seeing Mewtwo's incredible aura and
01:47playing a role in turning Ash to stone in 1998's Pokemon The First Movie. While the legendary psychic
01:54has popped up every so often in the series and films, the OG Mewtwo hadn't appeared since the Johto
02:00days. Well, that changed in the Pokemon Journeys episode, Getting More Than You Battled For.
02:06Goh and Ash arrived on an island in search for Mew. Instead, they discovered Mewtwo,
02:12the same one from the films. During the episode, Goh and Ash teamed up to battle Mewtwo so the former
02:25could capture it. However, it wiped the floor with the two trainers in majestic fashion, exciting
02:32viewers with this epic return. 8. Overpowered Tobias
02:42Mewtwo
02:49If you played an online battle and faced someone with a team filled with legendaries and mythicals,
02:54you know how annoying this can be. In the semi-final of the Lily of the Valley Conference for the
03:00Sinnoh League, MASH took on the mysterious Tobias, who had a darkry that swept the competition on its
03:06own so far. MASH's team put up a valiant effort, even knocking out Darkrai. However, Tobias threw out
03:13a Latios that won the battle for him, even if it got knocked out doing so.
03:20The audience was annoyed at the cheap way the writers wanted a ridiculously strong
03:29trainer to stop Ash from going on to win the tournament. What made it worse is that Tobias
03:35hasn't been seen since.
03:467. Pikachu's Backstory
03:50Since debuting in the anime's first episode, Pikachu has led the whole franchise as its mascot.
04:00Yet, in the show, for over two decades, its history before teaming up with Ash has been a mystery.
04:07Only drops of information here and there. To welcome the new series, we discovered more of
04:13the electric rodent's origin in the episode, Enter Pikachu. Four years before it became Ash's premier
04:19partner, Pikachu was a Pichu in a forest near Pallet Town. Exhausted after several run-ins with wild
04:27Pokemon, it's adopted by a Kangaskhan. After some time, Pichu realizes it's time to
04:37move on. As it waves goodbye, it evolves into Pikachu. Understandably, many fans cried at this
04:44wholesome tale. 6. Lake Rage
04:51Was it forced to evolve by that mysterious radio wave? I have to find the source.
04:56In 2016, Pokemon Generations was released online, which featured short animations based on events
05:03from the video games. One episode in particular, The Lake of Rage, captured the attention of the
05:09audience and brought in the most viewers. With Lance of the Elite Four infiltrating the Team Rocket
05:15Laboratory in Mahogany Town, we witnessed another Gen 1 favorite being the coolest Pokemon in existence
05:22with Dragonite. Not only did it briefly battle the iconic shiny Gyarados, but the Dragon-type easily
05:29defeated five Team Rocket Pokemon at the same time and wrecked the lab. All with stunning animation.
05:44Honestly, Lance wasn't really needed as Dragonite did it all by himself.
05:49As it was, Ash had never looked stronger than when he reached the final of the Lumiose Conference in the
06:11Kalos League. Armed with the unique Ash Greninja, it seemed like the Pallet Town homeboy would finally
06:18lift a league trophy. In the final against Alan's Mega Charizard X, even with a type advantage,
06:24Greninja was the first to fall in the epic, incredibly animated fight.
06:34Fans were split on the decision for Ash to lose. Some didn't mind, as it showed progression,
06:39but they did point out that losing to Alan meant Ash never beat him, which was disappointing.
06:45Others were livid that they were misled by the episode's promotional material
06:50and the translation of the Japanese title, which also hinted at Ash's win.
06:55Shipping is a serious topic. Fans love to debate their matchmaking choices and Pokemon is one of
07:12the best examples. Whenever Ash has a new companion, the audience goes into a tailspin over the new
07:17possible romance. But Ash had little love moments beyond that Latias scene. Well, that was until the
07:24climax of the XYZ series. As Serena was leaving for Hoenn, she suddenly turned up the escalator and,
07:32while not shown, it's heavily implied from the blushing, the foot movement, and the stunned reaction
07:38of the characters that she kissed Ash. And more shippers, as fans who want Ash and Serena to gather a cult,
07:52were delighted. But poker shippers, fans of Misty and Ash, were probably less enthusiastic.
07:57If you'll be the best trainer, then I guess I'm going to have to be the top coordinator!
08:03So we'll both do our best!
08:05You bet! Aim for the top!
08:073. Ash, The League Champion
08:16After countless battles, capturing Pokemon, befriending many folks, and making way too many
08:21memories for a single lifetime, Ash had finally achieved what he strove to do – become a league
08:27champion. To make it even more impressive, he became the Alola region's first winner. While the
08:33Sun and Moon series was divisive for its change in art style, that was all forgotten about when Ash
08:38faced Gladion in the final of the Manalo Conference. With his Dusk form Lycanroc taking on the Midnight form,
08:46Ash out-counted his rival to win his first major league trophy. The only achievement
08:51close to this was the much smaller Orange League success. This Alola news even reached mainstream
08:57media, which released articles celebrating the monumental moment.
09:012. Gotcha
09:18In 3 minutes and 14 seconds, no Pokemon-related music video has captured as much nostalgia as this.
09:25In 2020, Japanese rock band Bump of Chicken had their song Acacia turned into a beautiful animated
09:33Pokemon video to celebrate the Crown Tundra DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield. Known as Gotcha, it went
09:40through the video game's history, highlighting forgotten and beloved characters and creatures
09:46over the entire franchise alongside a catchy tune. It was filled with many, many easter eggs to get fans
09:59to stare at every frame for secrets. As of right now, Gotcha has amassed 82 million views on YouTube.
10:07In comparison, Ed Sheeran's Celestial from 2022 has 48 million, and 2021's Electric from Katy Perry has 52 million.

10:381. Becoming World Champion
10:51Finally, Ash had completed what he set out to do since he walked into Professor Oak's lab with a dream.
10:57He's now a Pokemon Master. After over 1200 episodes, during the Ultimate Journey series,
11:03Ash entered the Masters 8 Tournament, where the top-ranked trainers in the world competed.
11:09Bringing back familiar powerhouses and beloved characters for a delightful trip down memory lane,
11:15Ash goes through the tournament to win it all by defeating Leon in the final.
11:19Once again, mainstream media celebrated the news as though Ash was an IRL competitor,
11:37delighting fans even more. It was the perfect send-off for Ash Ketchum. Soon after,
11:43he stepped into anime retirement as the series' main protagonist, allowing the franchise to evolve
11:49once more.
11:50I will journey to gain the wisdom of Pokemon training, and I hereby declare to the Pokemon
11:56of the world, I will be a Pokemon Master!
