00:1510 Pikachu Turns to Stone Pokemon the Movie, Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction

00:31After the Legendary Evil Doll woke up from its nap, no one was safe from its Oblivion

00:36Wing attack.

00:38Not people, not Pokemon, and no, not even Ash and Pikachu.

00:42Evil Dolls Beam just barely nicked the electric type's tail, but that was still enough to

00:53turn Ash's partner into a glorified statue.

00:57Then as if killing off Pikachu wasn't bad enough, Ash is forced to watch as his oldest

01:02friend hardened in his arms.

01:14Since that's how he died back in the first Pokemon movie, that's bound to dredge up some

01:18old trauma too.

01:20Thankfully, Xerneas turned this downer around and gave this movie the happy ending it deserved.

01:27Mewtwo Unleashed – The Battle of the Badge

01:30Maybe I could have just one more battle to test out my most powerful Pokemon.

01:36This feels less like a Pokemon battle and more like a horror film.

01:41Sure, no one expected the 8th gym to be a pushover, but Mewtwo's entrance takes the

01:46idea several steps too far.

01:48How did it do that?

01:50What Pokemon is that?

01:52From the moment he steps out of the shadows, it's all too clear there's something off

01:56about him.

01:57That unsettling aura only becomes more apparent when he ruthlessly dismantles Gary's team

02:03with a single attack.

02:05Suddenly, Giovanni's claims about creating the ultimate Pokemon don't seem so far-fetched

02:10anymore.

02:11After all, the fact that Mewtwo made even Gary Oak quiver in fear is a pretty damning piece

02:17of evidence.

02:19Unovan Haunted House – Scare at the Litwick Mansion

02:32In one of their most ambitious schemes yet, Team Rocket recruits a gang of Litwick to

02:37scare Ash and the others out of their Pokemon.

02:40Surprisingly, the plan works perfectly.

02:49The only issue is that the Litwick take their new occupation very, very seriously.

02:55As a result, the entire episode becomes a haunted thrill ride of eerie set pieces.

03:00It all builds towards the spine-tingling reveal that, to them, this wasn't a game, it was

03:06as life and death.

03:07They feed off the life energy of people and Pokemon and use it as fuel for the flames on

03:12their heads.

03:13Wow, does this mean that our lives are in danger?

03:15The Litwick drain life energy in hopes of dragging humans into the so-called ghost world.

03:21Ash and the others made it out with their lives, but something tells us they won't be befriending

03:26more Litwick any time soon.

03:28If we get drawn inside there…

03:30There'll be nothing left of us to be tired!

03:33That would all be in very poor taste!

03:41Sabrina's Story – Abra and the Psychic Showdown

03:44As early as her first ever appearance, it's frighteningly obvious that Sabrina is not

03:50your average gym leader.

03:58The show fully commits to her psychic shtick, with downright hair-raising results, and yet,

04:04by the time Ash walks away with the Marsh Badge, Pokemon has transformed her from terrifying

04:09to tragic, at least partially.

04:12Sabrina's disturbing cadence takes on a whole new meaning when put in context of her misunderstood

04:18childhood.

04:29Psychic powers or not, that kind of isolation is hard to bounce back from.

04:35Mind you, she's still very scary.

04:37If anything, her penchant for turning people into dolls becomes creepier than ever.

04:446.

04:45Maulol's Power – Lulled to La La Land

04:53Don't let its cutesy looks fool you.

04:56This mushroom Pokemon is anything but friendly.

04:59See, Maulol has a nasty habit of, well, lulling people to sleep.

05:04Afterwards, it treats itself to a full-course meal of its victim's life force.

05:11For such a small Pokemon, Maulol certainly has a big appetite, too.

05:22Ash and his companions learned that firsthand when they were drained down to their skin and

05:26bones.

05:27A grass and fairy type, Maulol can send out glowing spores that put its opponents to sleep.

05:34Then it drains their energy using its foot like roots.

05:36Maulol technically had good intentions, but that doesn't make it any easier to watch Pikachu

05:41become a raisin.

05:42All things considered, it's probably for the best that this adorable leech didn't end

05:46up sticking around for too long.

05:53They're good!

05:55Ghost of a Chance – Ghoul Days

06:00At this trainer school, finding ghost Pokemon is all in a day's work.

06:08The operative word there being Ghost Pokemon.

06:11As Conway soon discovered, dealing with an actual spirit is a very different story.

06:17The creepy girl decides to cause mischief, spook the students and, oh yeah, almost walk Conway

06:24off a cliff.

06:25As it turns out, the ghost is determined to lure others into the spirit world, even if

06:30she has to kill them to do it.

06:32It's a good thing a friendly Dusk Noir foiled her plans, or else a good chunk of the student

06:38body would have become the same ghosts they were studying.

06:414.

06:47A Tree of Beginning – An End for Ash

06:50Pokemon Lucario and the Mystery of Mew

06:53In a franchise first, this Pokemon movie doesn't just try to kill off Ash, it nearly

06:59wipes out the entire human cast altogether.

07:02That's right, the Tree of Beginning consumes everyone, including Brock, May, Max, Jesse,

07:08and James.

07:13To really rub it in, each trainer spends their final moment saving their Pokemon from the

07:19same fate.

07:20Calling it heartbreaking would be an understatement, and their partner's collective grief doesn't

07:25help.

07:32To be fair, at that point there's nothing the Pokemon can do but cry.

07:36Of course, Mew doesn't let any of the trainer's death stick, but that doesn't make this

07:41any less soul crushing in the moment.

07:52Snubbles Death – Pokemon The Movie – The Power of Us

07:57When it comes to a character's demise, there's poignant and then there's tragic.

08:01Snubbles definitely leans towards the latter.

08:13The Pokemon dies in a burning windmill, only leaving behind a key for its trainer to remember

08:18it by.

08:19Clearly, the franchise isn't afraid to tackle the realities of death anymore.

08:24In fact, the main series has a particularly beautiful example involving an elderly Stoutland.

08:32But unlike what happened there, Snubble had so much life left to live for.

08:41The movie makes it painfully clear that Harriet's partner left too soon, and that even in a world

08:46like Pokemon's, there's nothing anyone can do to bring it back.

08:51There's never been a Pokemon battle quite like this.

09:08Instead of exciting or emotional, the ferocious clones deliver one of the most vicious stretches

09:13of violence the series has ever seen.

09:16If seeing two Pikachu tearfully slap the shocks out of each other doesn't break your heart,

09:21then nothing will.

09:26Still, the saddest part is that most of the original Pokemon just can't compete with their

09:32supercharged copies.

09:34So, not only is this scene needlessly brutal, but it's all for naught too.

09:39It gets so bad that it's almost a relief when Ash's sacrifice finally makes it all stop.

10:08Spirited Away – The Tower of Terror

10:13Within a day of arriving, Ash and Pikachu were haunted by ghost types, crushed by a chandelier,

10:19and had their spirits taken out of their bodies.

10:22Let that last one sink in for a bit.

10:27A ten-year-old and his partner were killed by three ghost types, and this was just them

10:32trying to play around.

10:34No matter how badly Ash wants to beat Sabrina, it's not worth that kind of trauma.

10:46Misty and Brock thought as much, and that's why they waited outside.

10:50The craziest part of this whole thing is that, even after defying death itself, Ash still

10:55agrees to take Haunter with him.

10:57It seems it was so much fun playing with Ash that Haunter decided to follow along on his

11:02Pokemon journey.
