00:00Did you know that Australia once went to war against birds?
00:03Yep, this actually happened.
00:04It's called the Great Emu War, and no, it wasn't a joke.
00:08In 1932, Western Australian farmers were struggling.
00:12After World War I, many veterans had been given farmland, but it was tough land and
00:16droughts hit hard.
00:17To make things worse, around 20,000 emus, giant, flightless birds decided to migrate
00:23through these farms, and destroyed everything in their path.
00:26The farmers called for help, and the government sent soldiers with machine guns to take down
00:30the emu menace.
00:32But the emus?
00:33Oh, they were smart.
00:34They scattered, ran fast, and were nearly impossible to hit.
00:38The soldiers fired thousands of rounds and killed maybe a few hundred birds.
00:42The rest outran them, literally.
00:44The operation was such a disaster that it was called off, and the emus won.
00:48Today it's remembered as one of history's weirdest military defeats.
00:51So next time someone tells you birds aren't dangerous, remind them of the Great Emu War.
00:56There's a story for the women who are dead.
00:58And there's a story for us who might be american animals.
01:00There's a story for the men.
01:01The way for people to escape from their homes.
01:02That's false.
01:04And there's a story for them that's still happening.
01:04They're a story for men, and the miles they have.
01:06I don't think it can be a story for men.
01:07A story, my story, my story, my family had been told, is a story for men to
01:11live in the air, that's a story for men to be a girl who had been in the air.
01:12And that's what they find.
01:13Now, it's a story, my story for men who had been in the air where was the
01:16of the air.
01:16It's a story for men that we came to come to take aetherian and the rest of
01:19place.
