00:00A Colombian judge sentenced Friday former President Álvaro Uribe to 12 years of house arrest for abuse of process and bribery of a public official in a long-running case over connections to former right-wing paramilitaries.
00:14The judge's ruling also includes a fine equivalent to 2,420 minimum monthly salaries and a ban to hold a public office for 100 months and 20 days.
00:25With this sentence, Uribe becomes the first Colombian ex-president to ever be found guilty at trial.
00:31The ruling comes less than a year away from the country's 2026 presidential election in which several of Uribe's allies and protgees are competing for top office.
00:43Uribe's legal team informed he will appeal the sentence. The appeal hearing is scheduled for August 4th.
00:48The 44th Criminal Circuit Court with functions of knowledge of Bogut, administering justice in the name of the republic, and by authority of the law, resolves, first to absolve Uribe Viles, with identity card 70,041,053 of metal N, of the conduct of bribery in relation to the event known as Hildanio Farf.
