James Gunn reveals why he went with that "Superman" opening to explain the hero's origin, and the reasoning behind the number 3.

00:00Why the number three, and do you think that there's going to be similar openings throughout
00:08these DC movies?
00:09Not necessarily.
00:10I mean, I think that, first of all, there's no reason for the number three.
00:14It's something that Alan Moore has done before with repetitive use of the same number, so
00:18that's all it is.
00:19And three just happened to be the one that fit.
00:22And it really is there for the beginning of our journey in the DCU just to give us a grounding
00:28of the fact that we're entering a world where metahumans, what we call superheroes, also
00:34exist, and that Superman has been around for a little while.
00:37For anyone who doesn't know, for the three or four people in the entire world that don't
00:42know Superman came from Krypton as a baby, we get to tell them that.
00:46You know, and also as a signal to people, basically, yeah, we're not going to explain.
00:50This is the origin, so you don't have to worry about getting bored when you're expecting to
00:54see flashbacks in the first act.
00:56But we've seen his origin enough.
