00:07mechanism helped save more than 1,300 homes from a massive fire in Kampungkurnia Jaya Tawau
00:14on Friday morning. Tawau Fire and Rescue Department Operations Officer Madzlan Sharman
00:20said the department received a distress call at 9.37am and arrived at the scene by 9.48am.
00:27By then, around 20 houses were already engulfed in flames and fortunately, residents managed
00:35to escape with no serious injuries. Madzlan said they adopted an offensive and defensive
00:40strategy, cutting off the fire from a safe distance to prevent further spread. The tactic
00:45proved effective as only 26 houses were destroyed despite the area being densely packed with over
00:52a thousand wooden homes. The blaze was brought under control by 10.14am. Investigations
00:58are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. Displaced victims are currently housed at a
01:04temporary relief centre, while some have sought shelter with relatives and friends.
