03:13oh okay
03:14do you want to put this
03:15you want to put this guy
03:16sean michaels
03:16gingerbread sean michaels
03:19he was my favorite wrestler
03:21all right so we're
03:21he looked just like that too like gingerbread
03:23yeah he was made of gingerbread
03:25that was so they used to call it sweet chin music because of the gingerbread
03:28my name is cody runnels
03:32and uh my wrestling name
03:35and what i go by
03:36and pretty much i've gone by my whole life is
03:38cody rhodes
03:39libby thinks that cody is a professional dancer
03:43because she saw entrances
03:50which is the big music and the lighting
03:52i think she thinks there's a component of dancing to it
03:56and has asked me before
03:57are you going to go dancing
03:59will you be dancing
04:00and i think she's even said
04:02when we showed her a couple clips on youtube
04:03oh this is the dancing
04:05it's not the worst
04:13parallel
04:15i'm good with that
04:21if when i asked what papa does for a living i'm a dancer
04:27for my daughter i'd be the best dancing dancer i possibly can be
04:32my role in wwe is that i am currently the undisputed wwe champion
04:39the american nightmare is here
04:46it is a role that is kind of the hood ornament for the company i get to be one of the most authentic if not most authentic wrestlers of this era simply for the fact that i play myself i am myself
05:00cody is the closest thing right now i think that we have to just a pure baby face that spot
05:13in my opinion probably the most difficult spot in the business right now
05:17easy to be a bad guy
05:18tell people a bunch of convoluted shit that seems reasonable to you and
05:22that's fun and easy
05:24just to be the guy that does the right thing all the time and overcomes and always
05:30succeeds
05:31people start to feel it's predictable people start to feel like it's
05:34like nobody's that good you know it's a tough thing
05:37i felt like such a bigger baby
05:41as white meat as you can be
05:45as fucking white meat as you can be
05:48be that way until we can anymore you know
05:50it ain't going anywhere
05:52right now we just gotta navigate it that's our fucking job
05:55our job me you fucking everybody but we navigate this now and figure out where we need to get it
06:02at some point here in a minute i need to get a picture of you with that
06:05okay
06:06one of my favorite ones ever
06:09there's a huge difference between being a wrestler and the wwe champion
06:15i've seen cody through every one of those seasons and this by far
06:21the demand of the job is unimaginable
06:25i'm incredibly lucky that my wife and i met in wrestling
06:29otherwise she would have left
06:31she knows what this push is
06:34she knows what it could mean for the future
06:37and she knows what it means right here and now
06:40people say it all the time the face of the company
06:43yeah
06:44when people say that
06:47my heart like skips a beat
06:50um
06:51because i always wanted to be that
06:53i just didn't know i could
06:55there you go look it's perfect
06:57so january 6th the premiere on netflix fun raw
07:16is massively important for this company
07:22putting us on a platform that is what 300 million homes in that ballpark
07:30globally
07:31that's a lot of people
07:33all right
07:35sure
07:35jan six
07:36yes
07:37paul is our chief content officer
07:41his experience as being a former superstar
07:43for so many years
07:45has kind of helped aid him
07:48as a performer
07:49he was great
07:50he was a student of the game
07:57you know kind of understood the bigger picture of storytelling
08:03so now he's brought that to his role as chief content officer here
08:08i think cody doesn't have like a role in this show
08:13i think he's been eyeballing this show as far as like want to be a part of it
08:16yes yeah yeah
08:17you know he hits me fucking every day
08:19with cody rhodes the bigger the star
08:22the more you want to provide some scarcity of their star power
08:27to keep them as big as they are
08:30so it's special when cody rhodes is there
08:33and fans see that and feel that
08:35and they're anticipating your return even more
08:38so you have to know where everything is going long term and way in advance
08:44so we tend to break it down sort of into seasons
08:48the season will start with january 6th
08:51the netflix premiere
08:53we'll do the weekly television shows
08:56at minimum twice a week
08:59along the way we will do the royal rumble
09:03which kicks off the road to wrestlemania
09:05we will do elimination chamber
09:07which continues that road to wrestlemania
09:08and then we will get to wrestlemania itself
09:11which is a two day
09:12basically it's our super bowl
09:14along the way you're building up these storylines
09:20obviously the biggest storylines revolve around our biggest stars
09:24chief among them being cody rhodes
09:26but john cena is coming back for one last year
09:31of a retirement run
09:33arguably one of the greatest performers in the history of our business
09:37and the return of john is a wonderful thing and a challenge at the same time
09:44my name is john cena
09:46the name i use in the ring is john cena
09:47my government name is john cena
09:49wrestling is the foundation of the house of my family relationship
09:55i grew up in a family of five boys
09:58and wrestling was our conduit
09:59it was our connection system
10:01i appreciate this
10:04as my hobby
10:06it's
10:07the best of imagination land
10:10not only did i do it during my free time
10:12but i paid to do it
10:13that i am the future of this business
10:17so i would do this for free
10:20i just physically can't do it anymore
10:23cody rhodes has in many ways kind of inherited that mantle from john cena
10:29and cody understood just how much the netflix premiere meant for the company
10:35and cody i think just feeling as if he is he calls himself the quarterback of of the team
10:40he wanted to be a part of it
10:42cody wants to save soon
10:44i know
10:45cody wants it like they all square up to fucking
10:47you know take cena down and cody rubs it and fucking makes the save
10:52totally understood that was the big shows in company history
10:55cody is in a fucking franchise
10:57probably every reason to have him on the show
10:58we don't have a half a dozen heels who are just
11:02everybody's got stories
11:03so it's like we're going to chuck judgment day out there
11:05you know it's
11:06also i get cody's point of view
11:09but also like it was the first time we see john cena in
11:13what a year
11:16but like the first time he comes out and like somebody's got to save him
11:20it just feels off to me too
11:22we can write and choreograph whatever we want back here
11:28you have to be ready for the element you can't control and that's the audience
11:33if you ignore them
11:34man they will skewer you
11:37but
11:38i think whatever a performer does they have to invest in it
11:42and the roster's pretty deep
11:44we got a lot of all-stars
11:45so right now i have punk and seth
11:48roman and solo
11:50bria and live
11:52matches are so big you wouldn't want to give them time
11:56yes
11:57i love like taxidermy stuff so i have a two-headed duck i have an octopus a bat crocodile i have
12:15this little like mozzie mosquito this is like a shrunken head
12:19like i love creepy artwork and and dark colors and i love all of that stuff that's why my office looks like this
12:30technically my name is demity bennett
12:33but i go by ria ripley and that's what everyone really knows me by
12:37ria is a goddess name
12:40and ripley is from the chick from aliens because she's a badass and i just put them together rr thought it made sense
12:46i'm from adelaide south australia
12:50i watched wwe growing up absolutely loved it
12:54wwe came to australia when i was 17 years old and they gave me a tryout then
12:59but i was too young
13:01they ended up coming back when i was 20
13:03and they had another tryout so they invited me to that
13:06and yeah i mean the rest is pretty much history
13:10it's weird describing ria ripley for me because i am ria ripley it's just like a 10 times version of myself
13:23she's crazy
13:26ria riptide through the table
13:30she's kind of scary but you're kind of attracted to her at the same time
13:34ria ripley absolutely possessed
13:37i like to say that it's the side of me that would get arrested in everyday life
13:41she's just absolutely chaotic and sadistic and manipulative
13:47it's all the sides of me that i don't like to show in my everyday life
13:51i'm always like demi bennett right before and i'm like freaking out
13:56and then as soon as my music plays i'm ria ripley
13:59this is what you say
14:01when that music hits it's a moment in the crowd and it's undeniable
14:12she has it
14:14she can be the biggest star in this business for a long time to come
14:17yeah i sorry my dog is uh playing with this tennis ball
14:22but this is luna she's my first child barry's my second and then bella is my third
14:30barry's always everyone's favorite aren't you baz and you're the most annoying middle child
14:36that i have ever met
14:37huh
14:38yeah you got bad breath too
14:41so the story between me liv and dom has actually been going for like an eternity
14:47it feels like it
14:49this has gone on long enough
14:53liv and i
14:54we have been feuding for like three years
15:00it's been a long time because we started as a tag team
15:05me and dom and i we kind of just like we kind of got put into
15:10this storyline together which i don't think was supposed to be a relationship storyline
15:15and then liv morgan decided to try and steal my family which she accomplished
15:21dom turned on me and helped liv beat me for the women's world championship
15:26it was a wild ride
15:32you're dead to me
15:35get out of my business
15:39before that she ruined my entire life at work
15:44and she's she's sort of sucker attacking you and
15:49did you want me to sort of fight back a little bit or just take it
15:52depends depends on what she's like what is she throwing do we know
15:56and that's where my whole year kind of changed
16:03she threw me into the wall
16:08but like i have a third grade ac sprain
16:11i full-on broke character as well
16:14in in that scene
16:17my collarbone and my shoulder blade got ripped apart
16:20she had to kick me into the second wall
16:22but my shoulder was already stuffed up
16:25so i'm like holding my arm
16:26when liv gets on me it's like punching me in the shoulder
16:30in the bad shoulder and i was like
16:32i was like somebody please get her off me
16:39bruh
16:39i felt it
16:40as soon as i hit the wall i was like i grabbed it and i was like oh shit
16:45i threw myself into the wall and i threw myself into the wall and i just threw myself into the wall and to the wall and Chad Cable now
16:53all the fun
16:54it was a great degree of separation
16:54that's what i'm gonna have
16:57so i had a grade 3 ac sprain
17:01which means that my shoulder blade and my collarbone aren't connected anymore
17:07The only way to get them back together is through surgery, and I opted not.
17:12So, like, it was either surgery, you have a scar, or no surgery, you have a massive lump in your shoulder.
17:18So, um, that's why I have this bad boy.
17:23So, he looks pretty gnarly sometimes.
17:27But it's just going to be there until I decide to fix it, if I do.
17:31Because I can still go back and have the surgery.
17:33I just don't want to have that extra time off, because it's going to be six months compared to three months.
17:38I know this sucks.
17:40Do not freak out.
17:42We will make this into something wonderful, okay?
17:44Sorry.
17:45Okay.
17:46I'm sorry.
17:48I'm sorry about physical business.
17:51Shit gets everybody.
17:52Nobody walks out on skis.
17:54All right.
17:56Shit up.
17:57All right?
18:03My entire life I've done this, so I can't say it's any harder now just because I'm older, you know?
18:18It's always been tough.
18:22Suffering is relative.
18:23It's situational.
18:24So, now, I think the landscape is changing so much, and that excites me.
18:30So, I'm looking at that as, like, this is uncharted water.
18:33I've never been more excited.
18:36My name is Punk, CM Punk, Punker, Cookie Monster, Pepsi Phil, Black Phillip.
18:45My government name is Phil.
18:47Yeah.
18:47It's a white accountant's name.
18:52I started wrestling in my friend's backyard in 1993.
18:56I started wrestling professionally in 1997.
19:01I was always drawn to punk rock because if there was a rule of punk rock, it's be yourself.
19:08I have a Hall of Fame career I could put up against anybody.
19:12Oh, my God!
19:14CM Punk is leaving with a WWE championship!
19:18But if there was one thing in the sport I have not accomplished, it's main event in WrestleMania.
19:25Initially, Hunter and I clashed because I was a main talent roster full-time the same time he was a main talent roster full-time.
19:36So, there's that competition.
19:37And a lot of that generation was looking down at kids like me saying, oh, you're here to take my spot.
19:45Well, I'm not going to let you, or at least it's going to be a fight.
19:49Halfway through my career here, he becomes office, and now I'm like, fuck you, you can't tell me anything.
19:54I always felt like my job was I'm in between office and the talent, but punk would never let me assist.
20:03And he would then sometimes attack me, like, you know, there would be moments where we'd have a meeting and he'd come at me and I'd leave there thinking, like, this little motherfucker.
20:14Punk didn't trust me, and I didn't trust punk.
20:17Punk didn't trust me, I had been on the road 365 days a year for 10 years straight.
20:23After a while, the wheels fell off.
20:28John Cena, while you lay there, I have a lot of things I want to get off my chest.
20:36And you can say that I have a big mouth and I talk a lot of shit.
20:39But that doesn't mean anything I said was nothing short of 100% fact.
20:46I'm not on your lovely little collector cups.
20:49I'm not on the cover of the program.
20:51I'm barely promoted.
20:53I don't get to be in movies.
20:55But the fact that Dwayne is in the main event of WrestleMania next year and I'm not makes me sick.
21:00This was Phil Brooks talking through the mouth of CM Punk and saying all the things that you weren't supposed to say.
21:13If I didn't take myself off the hamster wheel, nobody else was gonna, and they were gonna work me until I died.
21:21When I left this place in 2014, I was heartbroken.
21:25It took maybe 10 years for me to heal from a lot of things.
21:30Because we'd had conversations over the years for me to be able to come back here.
21:35And just nothing, nothing stuck.
21:39I felt like how he communicated with others needed to change.
21:44One time when he and I met, after he had left, this is years later, where there was a conversation about him coming back.
21:51I said, still the same dude won't work.
21:54The last time that we met and talked with him, I felt like he honestly was different.
22:02It seemed almost like in the phone call we both realized, like, oh, he's different.
22:06No, I'm different.
22:09Let's give it a shot.
22:10It's fair to say that me returning to WWE is the biggest return of all time.
22:37Do you want to put on a picture with me and you and blow up the internet?
22:39Yeah, what do you want to do?
22:41Say it in front of the logo.
22:42Go right back.
22:43Oh, are you gonna point at me?
22:45I'm gonna point back at you.
22:46I don't know if it's ever been done.
22:48Bring it in.
22:49He clearly knows he's much closer to the end than he is the beginning.
22:54When you get to a certain age, you start thinking about, look, I'm one big injury away from, I don't want to do this anymore.
23:00Looking at myself and my career right now, I think my role on the roster is...
23:10I feel like we need to take another picture.
23:12Yeah?
23:12Like, work out and then...
23:13I'm the player coach.
23:14Can we do that?
23:15Yeah.
23:16Can you take a picture for us?
23:18I'm a huge mark for Rhea today.
23:21I love it.
23:22For Rhea?
23:22I have years of experience that a lot of people don't have.
23:30I have made more mistakes, and I am happy to help them learn from them.
23:37I love you, Jacob.
23:38I love you, punk.
23:39By the way, can I get a picture with you after?
23:41Yeah, 100%.
23:42Yes!
23:44Yes!
23:44On January 6th, it is not just the launch of Raw on Netflix.
23:55It is a new launch of WWE worldwide.
24:02Drip on it!
24:03Drip on it!
24:04Drip on it!
24:06Drip on it!
24:07Main eventing WrestleMania meant that you were the number one guy in the industry.
24:13I'm looking at Netflix like, there's only one debut Raw broadcast.
24:19Let's do it.
24:20Start by putting over the match.
24:21We're going to call Seth out.
24:23He's my head.
24:24He's the thing.
24:24I'm not going to go again.
24:25It gets in your face.
24:27There.
24:27At some point.
24:28Boom.
24:29Ladies and gentlemen, CM Punk!
24:32CM Punk!
24:34CM Punk!
24:34CM Punk!
24:36CM Punk!
24:37CM Punk!
24:38CM Punk!
24:40CM Punk!
24:40On its first night, Monday Night Raw on Netflix, one of the most anticipated matches ever.
24:44You against Seth Rollins, personal animosity, disdain.
24:48Seth, right now, looks and sounds like CM Punk from 2013.
24:52I know, you know, everybody else knows.
24:55This is your last chance.
24:58One of two things is going to happen.
25:01You're going to self-destruct like you always do.
25:05Or if by some miracle you have changed and you've got any gas left in this old tank, maybe one day you'll be lucky enough to stand across the ring from me and then I will expose you for the fraud that you are.
25:24I think to understand, you have to talk about the history between myself and Seth Rollins.
25:33And it goes back quite a bit.
25:35You're talking about a 16-year-old Seth Rollins came to CM Punk and asked him to train him for free.
25:44Now, that entitlement, I think, has carried over into the adult Seth Rollins.
25:50Now, I don't claim to do those things because I wanted to thank you.
25:54I recognize that that 16-year-old kid had all the potential in the world.
25:59And in my absence from this company, Seth did a fantastic job of filling that vacuum.
26:04But simply put, the starters back.
26:07Second string, got to sit back down on the bench.
26:20Welcome back to the house that I built when you abandoned ship.
26:25I got nothing left to say.
26:28Who's the bootlicker now, bitch?
26:31Come on.
26:32I got nothing left to say.
26:35I have a microphone.
26:36I don't need a mic.
26:37I don't need a microphone.
26:38I don't need a microphone.
26:39I don't need a microphone.
26:40We can do this right here, right now.
26:41We got to see you on the 6th.
26:42Beginning and the end.
26:44It's my time now, baby!
26:48Ladies and gentlemen, in 19 hours, the series premiere.
26:53Let me applaud you, gentlemen.
26:54Yeah, so before we get into anything deeper than that,
27:07let's talk about guerrilla position.
27:13You know, years ago, when TV production started to become a thing,
27:19guerrilla monsoon, a very famous wrestler,
27:25he was timing things and controlling things from the area right before talent would walk out to go to the ring.
27:33That became known as guerrilla position.
27:37Guerrilla position in today's world, it is the epicenter of everything we do.
27:44The show is run from there.
27:45The guerrilla position is probably the most important position in the arena.
27:54Have a great show, guys.
27:56You basically control the world that night.
28:00Your world, the world wrestling and entertainment, is controlled from the guerrilla position.
28:08You know, the guerrilla position is very unique.
28:11In every arena, it's custom built.
28:14However, the inside and the workings of it are the same.
28:19There's primarily three tables set up inside guerrilla position.
28:22There's one table where Triple H and Bruce Pritchard are sitting.
28:27There's another table where Billy Kidman, who is our producer responsible for timing out the show and keeping tabs on times.
28:33Next to him will sit the respective match producer.
28:35As a producer, I'm basically the liaison, if you will, between the talent and the heads of creative.
28:44Stay tight right here.
28:46He'll convert this over.
28:50Nice.
28:50All of our producers are former in-ring talents.
28:54So, for example, Chris Park, who was known as Abyss.
29:00Another match producer is Bobby Roode.
29:02Michael Hayes from the Fabulous Freebirds is our longest-tenured producer.
29:08And Bruce Pritchard is the executive director of the creative writing team.
29:12So, the mechanics during the match for me and the reason I'm wearing a headset is I'm talking to the truck, keeping them about 10 or 15 seconds ahead of what's going on in the ring so that the cameras capture the story that we're trying to tell.
29:26The whole story is we want to catch Puck looking to the top of the cage for this last one.
29:31Punk's eyes.
29:33Yeah, there it is.
29:34That is a great shot.
29:35Another thing that I'm doing on that headset as well is I'm talking to the referees.
29:39The referees can hear me.
29:41We need to go, Spider.
29:42We need to go.
29:43Get him there quick.
29:45I told him.
29:46I told him.
29:47The producers are talking to the referees.
29:51All right, stay with Jacob.
29:52Braun's going to meet him with a chair that he's pulling from behind Time Keepers.
29:55It's a whole other world in my earpiece.
29:57So, the fans, you guys are seeing just two wrestlers wrestling, you know.
30:01But in my ear, I'm listening to at least, in a match, like five different things.
30:05Jacob, Jacob, okay?
30:08Everybody's good.
30:09He's selling.
30:11If the talent needs to pick up their energy, needs to have more urgency, needs to slow down,
30:17let something breathe, whatever that instruction is, it goes right through the ref.
30:23Be careful.
30:24I'm swinging a chair near the fans.
30:27Brock, be careful.
30:28Oh, damn it.
30:29Do not push fans.
30:31Right to the gun, right to the back, to the back again.
30:34Oh, those are extras.
30:39Yes, those are extras.
30:41Timing's probably the biggest pitfall that we need to look out for.
30:45I can relay messages through the referees to the talent.
30:49So, a lot of times, it's, hey, guys, we only have two minutes left.
30:51We're not going to be able to fit all four of this in.
30:53So, that becomes stressful.
30:54Going heavy or going short are equally bad.
31:01So, plan A, hit your time.
31:04Plan B, hit your time.
31:06How much time are we in?
31:08Oh, we're good.
31:09Seven and eight lives.
31:10We're good.
31:10We're good.
31:11We're real good.
31:12Our business is about telling stories.
31:15This is awesome.
31:16Thanks.
31:17Everything we want and more.
31:19And the epicenter of making that happen in real time, live, is Gorilla Position.
31:25Larry.
31:47Damien.
31:49Damien.
31:50I just feel this incredible weight of pressure and responsibility.
32:18And...
32:19These are the moments in where I move the best.
32:21This is where I thrive.
32:25Calm waters don't make good sailors.
32:30I think everybody needs a little bit of the adversity.
32:35Maybe a little less bullshit.
32:38But the adversity is a good thing.
32:42How you feeling about tonight?
32:43I'm...
32:44Shits.
32:46I'm not there yet.
32:47What's the thing you need?
32:49I'm good.
32:50I'm good.
32:50Unless you want to fucking tag you.
32:51No, I don't.
32:53I know.
32:53I want you to do your thing.
32:54Well, then we're off, though.
32:56So, man.

52:09You ate it right on your neck.
52:10Are you okay?
52:11I hate that it just got taken away, because I felt like it was just getting started.
52:15But the story is never really over.
52:17When one ends, a whole new one begins.
52:20Isn't that the job?
52:21To make the biggest stars possible.
52:23Hell yeah!
52:24It's all working.
52:26It pushes on you.
52:26There does get to a level where it is decimal points that separates you and makes you stand out.
52:37That's all I ever wanted to do.
52:39I just did it.
52:40I fucking did it.
52:41Side plane!
52:42Side plane!
52:44Yes!
52:46When you do get yours, you hold onto it, because it can go away like that.
