During a White House press briefing on Thursday, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked about the deportations of clergy-members.
Transcript
00:00The President, Caroline, deals with immigration here in America.
00:03As you know, a lot of deportation has been going on.
00:05ICE has been going after violent criminals that are here illegally and rightly so.
00:10In the midst of that, there are some evangelical pastors who are stating
00:14that it may have gone to a point of being indiscriminate
00:18and actually getting innocent people like members of the clergy.
00:22Has the President and has ICE looked at that
00:25to see how they can actually go after those violent criminals,
00:29but also make sure that members of the clergy are still not being deported?
00:35Well, look, the administration has always maintained the position
00:39that anyone who illegally crosses our nation's borders is subject to deportation.
00:44That's just the law of the land, and we must be a nation that enforces our laws.
00:49But the priority from ICE, of course, is to deport, detain, arrest,
00:54and remove violent illegal aliens and criminals from our country.
00:59And they have been doing that at the rate of thousands of illegal violent criminals
01:03every single week, especially in Democrat-run sanctuary cities
01:07where these illegal violent criminals have been given a safe haven
01:10and have essentially been immune from our nation's laws under the previous administration.
01:15That's not happening anymore because of this President and Secretary Noem
01:19in the Department of Homeland Security, and we are going to be a nation of laws.
01:23And as we've said repeatedly, if you came here illegally, you are subject to deportation,
01:27but the priority are those public safety threats that we must remove from our communities.
